The Magical Journey to Hogwarts
Chapter 44 Three Unforgivable Curses
Today is Saturday, and after training in the morning, Bell did not leave the box and go to the auditorium to eat as usual.
After eating a simple breakfast prepared by Lim, Bell came to the magic training room.
After so many years of study and training, Bell felt that he was fully prepared and decided to develop a new spell.
In fact, it is not accurate to say that it is development. It should be more accurate to say that it is improvement. The goal of improvement is the ‘Fire Fire Curse’.
When it comes to the Fire Curse, most wizards have a repulsive attitude, thinking that it is a black magic and should not be touched. But Bell shrugged off that notion.
The definition of black magic in the wizarding world is: 'a spell that requires the infusion of negative emotions when cast'.
But you must know that it is not only black magic that can kill people. White magic such as the 'Cutting Curse', 'Crushing Curse', and 'Fire Curse' can also easily take away lives. And when the so-called white wizard casts white magic to kill people, don't he have any negative emotions in his heart?
It would be better to say that a person who has no murderous intention in his heart and can take the lives of others with a smile is the real devil.
So in Bell's view, magic is magic, without distinction between black and white.
The reason why today's wizards are so repulsive and even afraid of black magic is actually mainly due to the fear accumulated during the Voldemort period, coupled with the encouragement of the Ministry of Magic and Dumbledore.
When it comes to black magic, the first thing that most wizards think of is the 'three unforgivable curses', which are the 'Soul-stealing Curse', the 'Cruciatus Curse' and the 'Killing Curse'.
But Bell currently does not plan to study these three magic spells, because in his opinion, these three magic spells are too weak, and it would take too much energy and time to further develop their power.
Bell is very busy now. He still has a "big plan" that he has not yet completed, but he doesn't have so much time to waste.
Yes, the Unforgivable Curse was feared by everyone among wizards, but Bell thought it was too weak.
The official explanation for why the three unforgivable curses stand out from many black magic and become the unforgivable curses that everyone talks about is: 'These three curses have no counter-curses and cannot be broken. ’
Obviously, this explanation is pure nonsense.
Bell once learned the three unforgivable curses. It is true that they have no counter-curses, but in Bell's view, this does not mean that these three curses are powerful. They don't have counterspells, just because they're not needed.
First, the Imperius Curse, which is a spell that can completely control the target.
So, why is it said that it does not need a counter-spell? Because as long as the will is strong enough, anyone can resist the control of the Imperius Curse without any magic.
The Imperius Curse is actually a very tricky curse. Its most powerful feature is that outsiders cannot tell whether a person is being controlled. But this is also its weakest point. Because in order to ensure concealment, its caster cannot sense whether the target has broken away from the control of the Imperius Curse.
So it's hard to say which side will be backstabbed when the cards are finally revealed.
If you want to avoid being stabbed in the back, you must master master-level Legilimency and follow the target at all times to feel the other person's thoughts. Once the other party's thinking becomes clear, it means that the other party has broken free from the control of the Soul Imperius Curse.
But in that case, what's the point of casting the Imperius Curse to control the opponent?
The second type of unforgivable curse is the Cruciatus Curse.
Many people, including Voldemort's Death Eaters, are afraid of the Cruciatus Curse because the torture is too painful.
So why is it said that it does not need a counter-spell? It's simple, because the Cruciatus Curse is a very pure curse used to torture people. To ensure maximum pain, it does not cause any harm to the human body!
Some people, such as the famous Longbottoms, were driven completely insane by the Cruciatus Curse. This is indeed a very regrettable thing, but Bell feels that the fault should not be attributed to the Cruciatus Curse.
If the Death Eaters had used magic such as 'transfiguration' to torture the Longbottoms, they would probably have lost their lives before they could survive, and in the best case scenario, they would have been permanently disabled.
Viewed from this perspective, it is difficult to say whether the Cruciatus Curse is cruel or merciful.
At this point, some people may be wondering: 'Why not use magic to cure the mental problems of the Longbottoms? In that case, wouldn't the Cruciatus Curse be completely broken? ’
Because the human spirit involves many aspects, including 'memory', 'soul', 'physical condition', etc., magic is not incapable of interfering with the spirit, such as the 'Forgetting Curse', etc. Many magic spells can interfere with the spirit.
However, the human spirit is very complex and fragile. If you use magic to treat it, it is likely that the condition after the treatment will not be as good as before the treatment.
In a situation like the Longbottoms' situation, the best way is to completely erase all the memories of the two people, but that would be no different from killing the two people, and their families would not agree.
Finally, the most powerful of the three Unforgivable Curses - the Death Curse.
Unlike the first two curses, Bell admitted that the Death Curse was indeed powerful. Especially its indefensible nature is difficult for most wizards to deal with.
At the same time, the death-killing nature of the death curse also determines that when it comes into contact with the target, it will either kill the target or it can be ignored.
Due to these two characteristics, counter-spells are meaningless for the Death Curse.
However, the Death Curse is not as scary as wizards imagined. It has two major weaknesses.
The first weakness is common to many modern magic spells, and that is that it is a single-target directional magic. When facing a powerful wizard, this kind of magic is really difficult to hit the opponent.
The second weakness is: 'The Death Curse requires powerful magic as its foundation. ’ In today’s world where theoretical examinations are becoming more and more important, there are fewer and fewer wizards who can meet this requirement and easily cast the Death Curse.
In Bell's view, the Death Curse is not only not scary, but can also be called the conscience of the magic world. Even the color is so healthy and environmentally friendly.
'Being hit by a life-killing curse, you die instantly without any pain, and your body will be intact after death', and 'being hit by a fire curse, you will die in the pain of burning flames, and not even the body will be left behind'. These two kinds of death are No, I believe no one would choose the second option, right?
Therefore, the three unforgivable curses are not unforgivable. What wizards really fear is not these three curses, but Voldemort, who likes to use these three curses, and his gang of Death Eaters.
Bell also couldn't understand why a man as cruel as Voldemort liked to use some 'kind' spells. Is this the so-called 'don't guess what a madman thinks'?
