The Mountain of Ice and Fire

#320 - Three groups of troops

Tywin glanced at Tyrion, his expression calm and indifferent.

Uncle Kevan said to Tyrion, "Tyrion, you don't need fifteen hundred guards."

"I have my own plans and…"

"I plan to send you to King's Landing," Duke Tywin said suddenly. "Are you willing to go?"

"Me? What would I do there? My sister doesn't like me at all. She loses the joy of life when she sees me, can't sleep soundly, and loses her appetite."

"King's Landing lacks a Hand of the King." Tywin handed the empty wine glass to a servant. "Tyrion, have a glass too."

"Yes, Your Grace."

Tyrion was flattered. "Why me?" He glanced at Uncle Kevan, from whom he knew that his father had wanted to be Hand himself. Oh, right, Father didn't defeat the Northmen; he only defeated nearly twenty thousand infantry from the North. But for the sparsely populated North, the cost was still very high. This battle severely damaged the North's vitality.

Roose Bolton's sudden forced march night attack plan was indeed good, but it was seen through by the Mountain. Thinking of this, Tyrion's gaze flickered as he looked at the Mountain.

"You are my son," Tywin said.

Tyrion found it hard to adapt to his father's sudden 'kindness' towards him. He took the wine glass and drained it in one gulp.

Just before dawn today, he had been thrown into the cannon fodder ranks by his father, with the possibility of dying in battle at any moment. Fortunately, his mountain clansmen were stronger than the Northmen, and he himself was far enough back, with Bronn following closely behind.

"Me… a dwarf, a demon, you're asking me to be Hand of the King?"

"Your brother has been captured by the Young Wolf, and I must lead an army to save him. Stannis of Dragonstone and Renly of Storm's End will soon attack King's Landing. Before they launch their attack, I want someone to control Cersei and Joffrey and stabilize the situation in King's Landing. They can't be allowed to run wild anymore. Otherwise, they will destroy us all."

"The Brotherhood Without Banners was created by King Joffrey and Queen Regent Cersei. I didn't kill Beric and Thoros because their honor was good, and they were highly skilled in martial arts, capable of serving the royal family. I handed them over to Joffrey and allowed them to return to the throne room as courtiers. But before long, the two were forced to rebel and leave the royal palace," the Mountain said.

"Their forcing out Barristan Selmy the Bold is even more unacceptable," Uncle Kevan said. "This will easily lose us the support of the people, and we cannot stand by and watch them cause turmoil in King's Landing. Once the people rebel, King's Landing cannot be defended."

"Go alone? How? The courtiers in King's Landing are not easy to deal with, and there's the Hound, loyal to the Queen Regent, and the corrupt officers of the city watch are no good people. Every vacant position will be contested by nobles. I'm afraid that the people I choose won't be approved by my sister, and if there's a dispute, she'll be angry and cut off my head, but I only have one head."

"I will write a letter to Cersei, allowing you to take charge of the government in my place. You are my son, and you must take responsibility for the Lannister name."

"Okay, I have one question. What if someone doesn't obey? Like a Kingsguard, or a member of the Small Council?"

"I don't need to teach you what to do, you are a Lannister!" Tywin said calmly.

Tyrion understood. This was his father's consistent style. "Cut off his head and stick it on a spear!"

Tywin looked at the Mountain. "Mountain, I'm going to give you Harrenhal. If the Vale's army comes out, you are responsible for driving them back."

"Yes, Your Grace."

"Once King's Landing needs reinforcements, you must lead your troops to King's Landing immediately. Also, although you don't have the Lannister name, you are my son-in-law, and you are already a member of our Lannister family. I hope you understand that."

"Yes, Father."

Tyrion's right corner of his mouth turned up, sneering inwardly. One is fierce and cruel, and the other is iron-faced and ruthless. Where does the affection come from between them? What hypocrites.

Harrenhal is not far from the Crossroads Inn. To the east, it can block the Vale's army from coming out, because there is only one road in and out of the Mountains of the Moon. To the south, it's only a day's journey to enter the Crownlands. Light cavalry is faster, and a forced march can reach King's Landing in a day and a night. To the north, it can threaten the remaining forces of the North, and to the west, it can take Riverrun. It is a nail stuck in the Riverlands.

A very important military strategic location.

With the Mountain stationed here, the Vale, the North, and the Riverlands will all be uncomfortable. Moreover, Harrenhal is easy to defend and difficult to attack. If there are no dragons invading from the sky, generally speaking, it is difficult for anyone to take Harrenhal by force.

Tyrion Lannister entered the Red Keep in King's Landing, the Mountain was stationed in Harrenhal, and Tywin personally led his troops to fight the Young Wolf. Tyrion knew that his father's real intention was not necessarily to kill the Young Wolf, but mainly to recapture Jaime.

Jaime is the best family successor in his father's mind. Although Tyrion is also Tywin's son, this son and Jaime are completely incomparable in his father's eyes.

The brotherly friendship between Tyrion and Jaime is strangely good. He has no jealousy towards Jaime for his father's decision to make major adjustments to the plan. He hopes that Jaime can return safely, and he also hopes to gain his father's approval… and respect!

"Tyrion, have you thought about it?"

"I've thought about it, but I need manpower. For example, if I want to cut off someone's head, I need my own people to do it, not do it myself. Look at my height. If I do it myself, I need a stool to cut off someone's head, but stools aren't always available!"

"Give you a mountain tribe as followers, Tyrion!" the Mountain said. "The remaining four mountain tribes belong to me. I am stationed at Harrenhal and also need a lot of manpower. After our main force leaves, I will face the pressure from the Vale, the North, and the Riverlands."

"I choose Shagga's Stone Crows." Tyrion said. Shagga is an absolute brute, but his brain is obviously not enough. Tyrion likes his strength, and he'll take care of the thinking.

"Take care of your barbarians. You can't mess around in the Red Keep in King's Landing. Also, I forbid you to take that whore to King's Landing. If I find out you've taken her to King's Landing, you know the consequences."

Tyrion's body stiffened. He hadn't hidden anything from his father!

"Mountain, how many prisoners of war did you capture?"

"Lord Cerwyn, Ser Willis Manderly, Ser Haliyon Karstark, and four Freys. Lord Howland was killed by me. His head was cut in half, so I couldn't bring back his head to register his military merits."

Kevan and Tyrion both looked at the Mountain with surprised expressions.

Cerwyn, Willis Manderly, Haliyon Karstark, these three are very important figures in the North. Willis and Haliyon are both family heirs, with a noble status, which is indispensable for a family. Cerwyn and Eddard were very close friends, and Robb had to call him uncle. Having four Frey knights in hand is also very useful. The Frey's Twins are located upstream of the Green Fork.

Duke Tywin was very satisfied with the Mountain's achievements. His main right-wing cavalry hadn't even lined up, and the Mountain had already pierced through the enemy's three lines of defense in the center, beheading countless knights with irresistible force. With such a fierce general in the Westerlands, he shook the morale of the entire Northern army, which made this war win so smoothly.

"After this war with the North ends, I will grant you Castamere, which was granted to you by the late King Robert Baratheon. Your Clegane's Keep is indeed too small, and it is not worthy of a battle-hardened earl."

"Thank you, Father!"

Tyrion suddenly felt a little nauseous. He curled his lips.

The Mountain, such a fierce and brutal man, with fierce combat power surpassing the Seven Kingdoms, called Tywin father as soon as he heard about the fiefdom, even more smoothly than he did, although he was his father's fake son-in-law, but also… somewhat… fucking disgusting!

…………

The Mountain and Tyrion walked towards the place where the mountain people gathered.

"Tyrion, what did you curl your lips for when I called Duke Tywin father?"

"You know it yourself. How could there be a little bit of affection in your heart, but you can still call it out, it's really fucking disgusting!"

The Mountain looked at the dwarf. "Tyrion, your mouth is a knife that hurts people, but I know you are actually a pitiful bug with good intentions. When the Duke wanted you to be the vanguard, I was the one who persuaded him to change his mind."

"Then you are my savior!"

"What do you think?!"
