The Mystery:The Witch and the Scourge
Chapter 32 Family Ethics Drama
The two walked to a quiet corner, and Charlie breathed a deep sigh of relief:
"Fortunately you came, otherwise I would have been exhausted."
"When will attending the dance become a burden for you, shouldn't you be able to do it with ease?" Joyce asked curiously.
Charlie drank the champagne in one gulp, replaced it with a glass of red wine similar to Joyce's, and began to vomit:
"During the dances during this period, Planck had to take him to get to know different people every time, this general, that congressman... You know, dealing with these people is very tiring."
As a friend, Joyce knew Charlie well enough and knew his lazy character, so he joked:
"Cheers to celebrate your escape from suffering."
Charlie nodded with deep understanding, then asked again:
"Speaking of which, don't you always dislike such occasions?"
Joyce noticed that Senator North had walked into the hall, which meant that the dance was about to begin, and he smiled:
"You still have Mr. Plank, but I am alone now. The Best family needs friends, which is why I am here."
Charlie patted him on the shoulder and said in a serious tone:
"It's not easy, but you still have me."
After that, he looked around and found that no one was paying attention here, and whispered: I have successfully configured a lot of new potions, and I will send them to you tomorrow."
Joyce asked funnyly: "Isn't it still the same medicine?"
"Of course not, am I that kind of person?" Charlie argued.
"Yes." Joyce answered confidently.
Charlie waved his hand and said, as if he didn't care about you:
"Don't worry, I won't trick you."
I have serious doubts about this... Joyce cursed and found that the hall was quiet, and Congressman North was walking on the stage to start his speech.
"Thank you all my friends for coming to today's ball. My wife and I are honored."
"Lulmi said that all people are born free and equal. Everyone present, whether they are Loen people or Rosid people, are all striving for the strength of the kingdom."
"Let us put aside our prejudices and praise the gods, praise His Majesty the King, praise fate, and praise the increasingly better life."
Joyce clenched his right hand into a fist, while other guests also praised the gods they believed in and drank the alcoholic beverages in their hands.
The soothing music continued to play, and Senator North led his wife in the opening dance.
Joyce did not forget the purpose of attending the dance. Through the observation just now, he selected three people who were most likely to know Ianna. The problem now is how to approach them. He can't go to the opening dance with a man!
"Hey, Naomi is here, probably for you."
"I'll run away first."
Charlie reminded Joyce and then walked away. He was very comfortable with this kind of situation.
Naomi is tall, wearing a simple milky white dress, with long hair shawl, and a little makeup, which cannot hide her heroic spirit.
She came over empty-handed, her face was rosy, and she seemed to have drank a lot:
"Invite me to a dance?"
Joyce smiled: "My pleasure, beautiful lady."
"When did you become glib?" Naomi raised her eyes and asked in surprise.
"Honesty is a virtue, the least obvious of my virtues."
Joyce held Naomi's hand and moved to the beat of the music. Seeing that she still had a depressed expression, she asked casually:
"Why are you not happy on such a beautiful night?"
"Who made you angry? Didn't you beat him up?"
Joyce asked this for a reason. Although Naomi was a girl, she was keen on violence, and her fighting skills were quite high. Many of her peers had been beaten by him, but they just refused to admit it.
Naomi was silent for a while and asked a very strange question:
“How does it feel to lose all your loved ones?”
This question was not polite for a child who had just lost his father. Fortunately, Joyce didn't pay much attention and answered after thinking:
"It will be difficult to accept it at first, but as time goes by, habits will overcome most of the sadness."
After a moment of silence, he raised his head and added:
"What doesn't kill you will make you stronger."
Joyce didn't hear Russell's name from Naomi's mouth. Maybe the emperor didn't leave this famous saying, maybe it was because of the girl's absent-minded state.
"Are all men philandering?" Naomi asked again.
Joyce couldn't understand her thinking at all. It was not like the Naomi he knew at all, so he had to make a joke to try to make her happy:
"This kind of question is not absolute. In fact, women in Intis are also very open-minded."
Seeing no reaction from her, Joyce continued:
"Okay, let me guess, you like a man, but he doesn't like you, or he doesn't just like you..."
"It's my uncle." Naomi interrupted.
Uncle? She fell in love with her uncle? What the hell is going on? Joyce paused and almost bumped into the person next to him.
He knows that Naomi's parents died when she was young, and she was raised by her uncle, Mr. Fabian, until she grew up, but this is not your... reason!
Joyce looked at Naomi in shock. Hearing the latter continue to speak, he could even feel the tremor in her voice:
"I found out that my uncle was having a tryst with a woman."
Okay, okay, now I'm switching from a taboo drama to a family ethics drama...
Joyce didn't know what to say for a moment. After all, this was a family matter, so he could only comfort him:
"Maybe you misunderstood, Mr. Fabian is not that kind of person."
"But I saw it with my own eyes. He and that woman got into a carriage. They were very intimate!"
"He looked at that woman the same way he looked at his aunt in the early years."
Naomi's tone gradually became lower, as if the world collapsed before her eyes.
It was the first time for Joyce to see this tough girl so sad, and she felt sad for a moment. Until the opening dance ended, the two of them remained silent in tacit understanding.
Walking to the sidelines, Joyce picked up a glass of white wine and looked at the people who continued to dance in the hall. She saw Charlie chatting happily with a group of people. Who would have thought that there was a heartbroken girl here who was afraid of the breakdown of her family!
As for Naomi, in just a short while, she had already drank three glasses of red wine.
When she was about to get the fourth cup, Joyce stopped her:
"Getting drunk can indeed help you forget some things, but it is only temporary. It will be even more painful when you wake up."
Naomi was already drunk. She began to feel very sober and made a very wise decision.
"You're right, drinking won't solve the problem. I need to solve the root cause of the problem."
Joyce heard a chill from her tone, and a series of plots quickly unfolded in his mind... He wasn't going to get rid of the third party, was he? Although the woman was at fault, your uncle was also responsible...
…
"What do you want to do?" he asked.
Naomi quickly convinced herself:
"I'm going to follow them both, find the woman's address, and drive her away."
