The rest is just noise
Chapter 258 Boston Sucks
On June 3, 1984, the Celtics arrived in Los Angeles at noon. They went to the hotel hungry because it was not safe to eat outside.
Just think about what happened to the Lakers in Boston.
Tricksters will eventually be tricked. Although it is not the Celtics players' original intention to trick the Lakers off the court, they do benefit from this method. Therefore, they have to be careful.
Louis strictly ordered the players not to eat outside. If they want takeout, they must notify the coaching staff, who will then make arrangements.
It's puzzling that Louis is so cautious. A few days ago, he allowed the players to let themselves go after the second game.
The caution about this matter stems from certain memories of Louis.
Jordan himself said in the documentary that his battle with the flu was poisoning. If this could happen to the NBA in 1997, he cannot overestimate the moral standards of NBA fans in 1984.
Facts have proved that the quality of Los Angeles people and the professionalism of the Lakers management are not comparable to those of Auerbach, an old guy from the prehistoric era, or the Mount disciples in the Salt Lake City area.
Celtics players will receive many provocations here, but there will be no fire alarms coming on duty in the middle of the night, no uninvited guests knocking on their doors, and no fans calling their hotel rooms to yell at them.
In terms of professional ethics and fan quality, the Lakers are already the champions.
But to become true champions, they still need to defend their two home stadiums.
Game3, game night.
The Lakers' lineup is surprising. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's inside partner is not Rambis, Wilkes, or McAdoo, but someone Buss spent a lot of money to recruit from Washington but has not been put to much use.
Mitch Kupchak.
Kupchak once reminded Louis of the rich version of Mark Madsen. In comparison, he moved faster and was stronger.
Although he is white, he is a mad dog type white inside thug like Kent Benson.
Teams that have a severe case of Princess Disease like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar need to arrange bodyguards to protect him and not expose him to the iron heel of his opponents.
Unfortunately, Kupchak suffered a torn ACL just after receiving his big contract.
In the 1980s and even earlier, an ACL tear represented retirement/near retirement or a significant decline in performance.
Kupchak belongs to the latter. He has been marginalized in the Lakers since his injury. Who would have expected that Riley would let him go in the finals?
What kind of calculation is this? Louis frowned and stared at the future Lakers general manager.
The surprising thing is that Sampson lost the jump ball to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
This is the second time since the start of the finals, and people can't help but sigh, old ginger is still spicy.
The Lakers' strategy is no different from before.
Give up the mid-range and strictly control the three-point line and paint area.
Their defensive intensity against three-pointers is even higher than before.
Doing so will result in a decrease in defensive intensity in the penalty area.
Isn’t this putting the cart before the horse? Even in the small ball era, they would block the penalty area and give opponents more opportunities to shoot three-pointers. However, the Lakers strictly control the three-point line, put mid-range shots, and put defense in the penalty area second?
Isiah Thomas saw at a glance that the Lakers had hidden dangers inside, so he charged in at full speed.
His layup failed because Kupchak faced him like a savage.
Louis thought it was at least a foul, and the sensitive referee might have given it a T.
However, tonight's referee, the infamous Dik Bavetta, held his whistle tightly in his mouth like a lion latching on to its prey.
"You're boasting, old bastard!" Louis scolded.
He didn't curse out loud, but when Bavetta watched Kupchak commit a foul but didn't blow the whistle, he became angry.
"You want to tell me this isn't a foul?"
Thomas was brought down, and the Lakers took the ball and counterattacked.
"Don't dictate my work!" Bavetta said coldly.
"Damn it!" Louis didn't expect that tonight's referee would be Bavetta.
Regarding Bavetta, there are at least two games that can prove his stupidity and bias towards the Lakers.
In 1977, Maravich scored 68 points against Walter Frazier. He could 100% score 70 points and had a certain probability of scoring 80 points, but he didn't get it. Why? Because he was
A referee named Dick Bavetta sent the ball off.
Will this happen again in the next 100 years? I mean, will fans ever see a second NBA referee eject a player who might have scored 70 or 80 points that night?
And, in Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals, one of the two darkest games of the 21st century (1), a game that led to the collective initiative of the Sacramento people that the Lakers distribute championship rings to the three referees that night. The referee that night:
Dick Bavetta.
Bavetta has a lot of seniority, so Louis needs to learn how to put pressure on such an experienced referee.
Not every referee is a moody idiot like Jack Madden.
Bavetta is probably the referee who has been sprayed with the most "black whistle", but he is also the referee with the most attendance in history. In other words, his black whistle has no other problems except "black" itself. He is just a
Terrible and persistent refereeing.
It's like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was a jerk, but he was still able to play from 1969 to 1989.
When the Celtics did the same thing to the Lakers, when Laimbeer tipped Dennis Johnson over, Bavetta didn't blow the whistle. Another referee did.
The referee was Paul Halak, who had been working in the league since 1969. When the incident occurred, he stood on the baseline and saw Laimbeer's movements clearly.
"This is a double standard!" Louie roared, "Fans all over the world are paying attention to this game. Is this the law enforcement ability you want the world to see?"
Louis' rant was ignored.
But Louis did not become more angry because of this. Many coaches mentioned in their autobiographies that if the referee ignores your anger, it does not mean that he really ignores you, but that he knows that he is in the wrong, so he chooses to avoid the edge.
At this time, what he has to do is to continue to apply pressure.
When the Celtics were under continuous high-intensity pressure and the offense frequently struggled, and the Lakers got off to an 8-0 start, Louis called a timeout.
He drew an iron barrel formation around the free throw line, resolutely missed all the Lakers' long-range shots, and locked down the penalty area.
"Don't foul inside, focus on assisting defense, and leave the fouling to others!" Louis said loudly.
Louis' strategy worked. The Celtics surrounded the city with iron barrels. Even if Magic broke in and faced multiple attacks, he still had to pass the ball.
His ball couldn't be passed inside and had to be passed outward.
Wilkins got the ball and came in again. He was much tougher than Magic and wanted to use his physical strength to overwhelm the opponent.
If you give him an open space, no one on the Celtics can stop his offense.
Bird's hand, which was about to hit the ball, hit him.
Mira Hack originally wanted to blow the whistle, but his eyes happened to meet Louis's.
Louis is standing on the sidelines. As long as he blows the whistle, there is no doubt that he will scream like a madman on the sidelines. There is no era of zero tolerance. Even if the coach verbally preys on the whole family, the referee can only give a technical foul.
What's more, Louis won't be so direct, what he wants to do is put pressure on the referee.
I don’t know what the psychology was, but Mirahak’s whistle didn’t sound.
Wilkins was personally attacked but did not cause a foul. Now it was his and Riley's turn to complain to the referee.
The referee is the person who bears the most pressure on the court. Fans, players, coaches, if anyone is unhappy, they will all attack him.
When the Celtics charged into the penalty area again, Kupchak collided with Bird's body and was called for a foul.
Now Louis knows why the Lakers brought Kupchak up.
It's not his ability that matters, but his 6 fouls.
When he comes on the court, he has only one task: to stop all Celtic attacks from attacking the penalty area.
He certainly can't stop all drives legally, so fouling is the best way to go.
Therefore, the Lakers' strategy has been clearly exposed to Louis' eyes.
Strictly control the Celtics' three-pointers, put them in the mid-range, and maintain defense in the penalty area. If you can't defend them, commit a foul.
This extreme strategy is the reason why the Celtics' offense has not been smooth since the beginning of the game.
The Lakers already regard this battle as a life and death battle. They know that if they are led 3-0 by the Celtics, everything will be over.
As for the offensive end, Bird's foul did not stop them from continuing to sprint inside.
They know where the Celtics' Achilles heel is.
Magic passed the ball to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar despite being flanked by multiple players.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar missed the sky hook. Wilkins rushed down the offensive rebound, jumped up and collided with Sampson. The referee blew the whistle and scored 2+1.
"BostonSuks!"
"BostonSuks!"
Jack Nicholson, the world's number one lake honey, stood up wearing clothes marked "Boston Suks" and gave the Celtics the middle finger with both hands, roaring: "Boston Suks!!!"
⑴If you want to ask which one is the other one, my answer must be G4 in 2017. Anyone who has seen it will understand. However, in terms of the severity of the consequences, the 17 one is far inferior to the 02.17 one.
Helped the Cavaliers to breathe again and changed the result of being swept. 02 directly blew the stinky balls of Webber, Divac, and Peja. This directly determined the OK dynasty and the first championship in the history of the Kings. Webber
The historical status of floating Bavetta is ranked 5-10 among the gods forever.
