The Second Empire of Azeroth

#116 - Battle for Fel Lake

After the victory of the Battle of Farahlon, the Alliance not only built the Evergrowth Woods camp but also reoccupied Hellfire Citadel. However, Hellfire Citadel was entirely covered by fel energy, and the allied forces needed to purify the fel energy bit by bit before they could completely occupy this fortress.

The elemental spirits recovered their strength quickly. The Shattered shaman, along with the elemental spirits, advanced towards the most hostile part of this continent, preparing to repair the cracks in the earth and sky. Accompanying them were also the treants. The treants were once enemies of the elemental spirits, but now they are good helpers.

Nuboton led a team deep into Zangar Marsh, the place where the powerful life spirit Zangar fell. Zangar's powerful vitality spawned a large number of spores, scattered in the ocean. However, due to the idleness of the environment, the spore forest could only barely survive and could not expand.

Later, because the fel energy affected the elemental spirits, it turned the Zangar Sea into Zangar Marsh. The spore forest saw the light of day again and quickly multiplied. Zangar Marsh was sparsely populated, and soon became the world of the spore forest.

However, the good times did not last long. The demons from Frostfire Ridge came.

The weakness of the sporelings aroused the demons' desire for slaughter. Even the weakest imp could easily kill a sporeling. As the basic infantry of the Burning Legion, the demon guards could easily eliminate a settlement. When Magtheridon led the demon army to attack Terokkar Forest, all the spore forests along the march were destroyed, and all the sporelings were slaughtered.

After Magtheridon was killed, many demons fled back to Zangar Marsh. After learning of Magtheridon's death, the demons of Frostfire Ridge immediately chose to shrink back into Zangar Marsh.

The concept of hierarchy engraved in their genes made the sporelings submit to the treants and tell them about the evil deeds of the demons. After the treants reported to Nuboton, Nuboton immediately decided to go to Serpent Lake to stop the demons' conspiracy.

When they arrived at the fel lake day and night, the lake water of the fel lake had already been severely polluted and was spreading to the surrounding lakes and rivers.

Nuboton quickly ordered the water elemental spirits to control the water flow and suspend the spread of the fel energy. He also ordered the earth elemental spirits to cut off the river and block the waterway from Serpent Lake to other lakes and rivers.

The fire elemental spirits and wind elemental spirits burned the fel energy in the soil on the lakeside to prevent the fel energy from continuing to permeate.

The treants conducted research to find a way to restore the ecology. However, the treants did not transform the ecology like Evergrowth Woods, but prepared to restore the spore forest. Although Roger influenced their thinking, they were still naturally close to spores. Although the sporelings were untamed, they were still confident in educating them.

At first, the sporelings would still attack the Shattered and the elemental spirits. However, their weak strength could not harm the Shattered shaman at all. As for the elemental spirits, they did not take their former enemies seriously at all. Except for the earth elemental spirits, the sporelings' attacks on other elemental spirits would only be counterattacked by the active elements on the elemental spirits.

Under the teaching of the treants, the sporelings gradually realized that the Shattered and the elemental spirits were their own people, and the attack incidents gradually decreased.

The Shattered tolerated the sporelings for Roger's sake. The treants were Roger's people, and the sporelings were the treants' people, which was roughly equivalent to Roger's people.

The demons quickly discovered the actions of the Shattered shaman and the treants. They did not allow their actions to be destroyed by a group of mortals. Doomguards drove hellhounds and demon guards launched an attack on the atoll lagoon camp where the Shattered were located. The hellhounds were specifically aimed at the elemental spirits. They would absorb the mana of the elemental spirits and then kill them.

The demon guards charged into the camp, attacking the Shattered and the treants.

The treants commanded the sporelings to block the demon guards. The treants' natural spells commanded the strong roots to entangle the demon guards, and the sporelings swarmed up, using spears to stab the demon guards into sieves.

Although the demon guards were powerful, they could only be submerged in the ocean of sporelings after being trapped by the roots. The sporelings, who were often bullied by the demons, suddenly had a sense of revenge. They rushed towards the demons frantically, wanting to kill all the demons.

However, they took themselves too seriously.

A hellfire smashed into the sporelings, and the shock wave nuked a piece of sporelings. The hellfire stood up and roared at the sporelings.

The sporelings instantly retreated.

The treants were very angry when they saw this scene. They immediately mobilized the life spirits and created a more powerful root to entangle the hellfire. Although the fel fire on the hellfire could consume the life spirits, the thick roots strangled the hellfire into rubble at an extremely fast speed.

"Boom boom boom——"

Hellfires fell into the camp one after another, and after standing up, they launched an attack on the treants. The treants did not have time to mobilize the life spirits and could only retreat temporarily.

At this time, earth elemental spirits rushed over and collided with the hellfires. The two sides punched each other, and the earth elemental spirits resisted the fel fire of the hellfires and defeated them.

Other elemental spirits also rushed over to help the treants guard the camp.

Nuboton led the shaman closely behind, and they defeated the hellhounds and rescued the elemental spirits.

Under the coordination of the shaman, the elemental spirits, and the treants, they finally repelled the demons' attack.

But the war was not over. The two sides launched a battle for control centered on Serpent Lake. Nuboton wanted to defeat the demons and purify the fel energy in the fel lake. The demons wanted to defeat the allied forces and spread the fel energy in the fel lake.

The two sides fought back and forth. The demons could not capture the atoll lagoon camp, and Nuboton could not occupy the fel lake.

But overall, the demons still had the advantage. They were not only powerful, but also able to obtain fel energy from the fel lake, and their mana recovered quickly. If it were not for the shaman constantly summoning elemental spirits, the atoll lagoon camp would have been breached long ago.

Fortunately, the draenei rebuilt Terokkar Forest, and the rangers of Terokkar Forest joined the war. Only then did the Alliance gain the upper hand, but soon the demons divided their forces to attack the sporeling colony in the western Zangar Marsh, and the treants had to leave the atoll lagoon and rescue the sporelings there. The treants established a camp between the spore forest and the fel lake, blocking the demons' advance towards the spore forest.

In this way, the atoll lagoon, Terokkar Forest, and the treant camp formed a battle line, dividing Zangar Marsh into two with the demons.
