The Second Empire of Azeroth
#172 - Summon Archimonde
After Arthas fled Lordaeron, he immediately headed to Andorhal.
He needed to understand the situation before formulating a strategy.
If the Scourge army had reached an uncontrollable level, he would head north to Quel'Thalas, seeking the help of the elves and contacting Roger and the others.
The Dreadlords watched Arthas escape, fearing he would leak the news.
The reason they dared to stir up trouble in Lordaeron was because they knew Roger and the others were in Northrend and couldn't return in a short time.
However, now that Arthas had returned, it meant that Roger and the others might also be back.
To avoid affecting their plan, they had to take the final step.
Kel'Thuzad stared blankly at the Dreadlords, "Attack Dalaran now?"
"That's right!"
"There are thousands of mages in Dalaran.
With just these low-level undead, I'm afraid they won't even be able to destroy Dalaran's barrier," Kel'Thuzad said.
"There is no room for discussion!" the Dreadlord said, "Arthas has returned from Northrend, and Rogers will inevitably know about the situation in Lordaeron.
Once Rogers also returns from Northrend, the plan to summon Archimonde will fail."
Indeed, the Dreadlords' ultimate plan was to summon Archimonde to descend and then eliminate all resistance forces in Azeroth.
Summoning Archimonde required several conditions: a powerful spellcaster, the Book of Medivh, and enough time.
Although the Dreadlords were also spellcasters, they were more adept at energy conversion, and their strength was not sufficient to summon Archimonde.
Therefore, they designed Kel'Thuzad's death, one purpose being to lure Arthas to Stratholme and then to Northrend to take up Frostmourne.
Unfortunately, this part of the plan failed!
Arthas did go to Northrend, but he took the Northrend Expedition with him.
He also didn't wield Frostmourne, but instead obtained another artifact, the Hand of Ragnaros.
Moreover, Frostmourne was shattered by Roger, and the Lich King was killed.
Their plan to use the Scourge as a vanguard completely failed.
However, the second part of the plan was successful.
Although the losses were significant, Kel'Thuzad was resurrected using the energy of the Sunwell.
After resurrection, Kel'Thuzad was powerful enough to support the mana needed to summon Archimonde.
The main timeline's Book of Medivh had already been sent back to Dalaran.
The Dreadlords wanted to lure the Silver Hand back to Lordaeron, transform all the paladins into death knights, and then rely on the death knight army to break through Dalaran.
Unfortunately, this part of the plan also failed.
They now had only one choice, which was to use hundreds of thousands of low-level undead to冲击 Dalaran's magical barrier.
However, based on Kel'Thuzad's understanding of Dalaran, this action had no chance of success.
However, the reason given by the Dreadlords left Kel'Thuzad with no way to refute it.
After pondering for a moment, Kel'Thuzad said, "If that's the case, there's only one way!"
The Dreadlords looked over, and Kel'Thuzad said, "The key to Dalaran's magical barrier is in the hands of the Kirin Tor Council.
Only by eliminating the Kirin Tor Council can we break the magical barrier.
The next day, Dalaran.
Archmage Antonidas received intelligence that the former Guardian Aegwynn had appeared on Fenris Isle, seemingly searching for the Guardian's exclusive staff—Aluneth.
This artifact was the hereditary staff of the Guardians.
Before the Chicken Leg Staff appeared, it had always been the Guardian's exclusive weapon.
Although the Violet Eye had obtained the Chicken Leg Staff, Khadgar had taken the Chicken Leg Staff to Draenor and its whereabouts were unknown.
The Kirin Tor Council had been cultivating a new Guardian, but they lacked powerful magical tools.
The news of Aluneth made Antonidas feel that this was a good opportunity to re-cultivate a Guardian.
So, he led the Kirin Tor Council to Fenris Isle, wanting to persuade Aegwynn to hand over Aluneth.
If she refused, then he would not be polite.
Aegwynn, who had lost the Guardian's powerful magic, would certainly not be a match for their group of six, and Aluneth would inevitably return to the Council's hands.
When Antonidas and the others arrived at Fenris Isle, countless undead poured out of Lake Lordamere.
Antonidas realized he had been tricked and was about to escape.
However, the Dreadlords and Kel'Thuzad countered their teleportation spells.
Rivendare led the undead to charge over, relying on the sea of people tactics to kill the six powerful mages.
Immediately afterward, Kel'Thuzad directed the Scourge army south to Dalaran, quickly breaking through Dalaran's gates.
Without the Kirin Tor Council presiding over the overall situation, Dalaran's mages were a mess, unable to organize effective resistance.
Kel'Thuzad, relying on his understanding of Dalaran, quickly found the Book of Medivh.
He had Baron Rivendare lead the Scourge army to hold off Dalaran's mages, while he and the Dreadlords came to the mountaintop outside Dalaran and began the summoning array.
Although Dalaran's mages asked the surrounding nobles for help, it would take some time for the nobles' armies to arrive.
Kel'Thuzad's summoning ritual proceeded smoothly.
He did not summon Archimonde first, but instead summoned countless Burning Legion demons, establishing a defense line at the foot of the mountain, blocking the nobles' army's attack.
After resolving his worries, he then began to summon Archimonde.
In the evening, the sky suddenly burst into flames, and a huge figure appeared on the mountaintop.
That huge figure pointed casually, and a thunderbolt shot into the noble army, instantly crushing them.
After the noble army fled, the huge figure turned to look at Dalaran.
He squatted on the ground and drew a magic circle, and a model of Dalaran formed in the magic circle.
Archimonde looked contemptuously at this magical city. It was time to let these mortals see what true magic was.
He gently twisted off a tower model, and a tower in Dalaran instantly collapsed…
Northrend, while Roger was patching up any holes in Ulduar, he suddenly looked up towards the southeast, he felt the magical reaction of Archimonde's arrival, and his face changed drastically.
Waving the Scepter of Sargeras, a screen appeared before him.
On the screen, the image of Archimonde easily destroying Dalaran made Roger's expression serious.
This ability to destroy a city with a wave of his hand was something he did not possess.
However, he only felt troubled.
If it were before, he might have been wary of Archimonde.
But now, he could draw on the energy of the Well of Eternity at any time, and dealing with Archimonde was completely no problem.
