The Second Empire of Azeroth
#65 - Comprehensive counterattack
Malacrass followed the retreating soldiers all the way back to Zul'Aman. If he hadn't returned in time to take charge, Zul'Aman would likely have been captured by the pursuing elves. Even so, the Amani trolls suffered heavy losses in this battle.
Over twenty thousand trolls were killed or captured, and tens of thousands more were hunted down by the elves in Eversong Woods. Only a little over ten thousand trolls made it back to Zul'Aman, halving its population. Furthermore, these were the trolls' most elite soldiers, and even Chieftain Zul'jin was missing.
Some trolls said that Zul'jin had been captured by the elves; others said that he had been killed by humans.
Rumors abounded, and Malacrass couldn't tell which was true.
Now, Zul'Aman was completely incapable of launching an attack. They could only huddle within the city walls and watch as the elves set up defenses before the gates.
Orgrim was taken to Silvermoon City, and Roger and the others were received by the Sunstrider Dynasty.
Although many nobles didn't think the reinforcements Roger brought were that important, this battle had killed over ten thousand trolls, captured over ten thousand trolls, and exhausted the Amani trolls' accumulation of thousands of years. This was a great help to Quel'Thalas.
Moreover, regardless of anything else, Roger had indeed helped the elves, and the Elven King believed that the elves should show some friendship in return.
Unlike Emperor Thoradin back then, Emperor Thoradin had offered help in a time of need, so the elves regarded Emperor Thoradin as a friend. Roger had only added flowers to the brocade, so the etiquette for receiving him was the same as that for the ambassador of Lordaeron.
After entering Silvermoon City, Roger clearly felt that the arcane energy was much more active. If he absorbed the power of the Dragon Soul here, it should be even faster.
So, at night, he set up a barrier to hide the energy fluctuations, and then absorbed the energy of the Dragon Soul inside the room.
He absorbed two strands of arcane divinity in one night. Without the buff of the Sunwell, how could there be a doubling effect?
The nobles of Silvermoon City were proud and reserved. Although they didn't take Roger seriously, they still had basic manners. Moreover, they knew how to be grateful. Roger had sent troops to help the elves deal with the trolls, and they had also sent an army to help the humans deal with the orcs. Although the orcs were already declining, one more or one less army made no difference, but at least Silvermoon City had shown its attitude.
Alleria was still appointed as commander and followed Roger on a ship to the Wetlands front.
After Lother received the news of Orgrim's capture, he believed that the time for a counterattack was ripe, so he issued an order for a full-scale counterattack.
The main force of the Alliance army sailed south from Southshore and, with the help of the Kul Tiras navy, regained control of Menethil Harbor. The army marched north along the avenue, and together with Uther on the north side of Thandol Span, they defeated the orcs of Dun Modr.
After the two sides joined forces, they turned their attention to Grim Batol.
Dathrohan and Fordring occupied Aerie Peak, but the Black Tooth Grin clan, which had been abandoned there, had already built ships with the help of the trolls and fled back to Northrend, which later became the Twilight Highlands.
Dathrohan and Fordring also stepped up the construction of ships and pursued them.
Rend Blackhand did not stay in Northrend and fled south all the way. When he arrived at Loch Modan, he took away all the orcs stationed there.
The orcs also learned of Orgrim's capture, and it was a time of great disarray. Rend Blackhand stood up at this time as the son of the former Warchief and took over the power of the Horde.
Those brainless orc chieftains had no good ideas and could only temporarily obey Rend Blackhand.
In this way, Rend Blackhand fled south while gathering orcs stationed in various places. Soon, Rend Blackhand gathered thousands of troops.
However, compared to the tens of thousands of troops of the Alliance, Rend Blackhand's army was too small. In addition to the lack of high-end combat power, Rend Blackhand decided to choose a strong castle to defend. In the end, he set his sights on Blackrock Mountain, where there were still a large number of Dark Iron dwarves, plus the restless fire element inside, which should be able to resist the Alliance's attack.
When Roger found the Alliance army, the Alliance army had just captured Grim Batol. Because of the lack of troops, the orcs guarding Grim Batol were always distracted, but relying on the terrain of Grim Batol, the orcs still caused heavy casualties to the Alliance army.
Seeing Roger, Lother was deeply helpless.
"Before the victory, the armies of various countries began to compete for merit and repeatedly disobeyed orders. Otherwise, with the help of the Wildhammer dwarves, Grim Batol could have been easily occupied, and the casualties would have been at least three times less than now."
One general's success is built on the bones of thousands of soldiers. Roger was very disgusted by the behavior of these noble generals who only had merit in their eyes and no soldiers' lives. But he couldn't do anything about it. The armies of various countries only obeyed the orders of the noble generals of their own countries. If the noble generals disobeyed orders, even if Emperor Thoradin was resurrected, there would be no way.
This was the downside of the Alliance quickly defeating the Horde. The nobles of various countries began to ignore the orcs.
The so-called arrogant soldiers are bound to lose. Roger was deeply worried about this.
He wanted to kill fewer people by quickly resolving the orcs, but according to the noble generals' mess, the people who died less in the early stage might be made up for in the later stage. Moreover, he and Lother were helpless about this and could only watch these soldiers go to their deaths.
The Allied forces pursued south, and the orcs had to be cleared everywhere, which gave Rend Blackhand time to organize defenses.
A Dark Iron dwarf found Rend Blackhand, "Respected Warchief, I have a way to strengthen the orcs."
Rend Blackhand knew this Dark Iron dwarf. It was he who had bewitched the Dragonmaw clan and killed his brother Maim.
Rend Blackhand stared at the dwarf with a stern face, constantly thinking about the dwarf's words in his mind. The dwarf was right. The orcs had already reached this point. What impact would it have even if they were deceived again? But what if what this dwarf said was true? Then he might have hope of holding Blackrock Mountain.
As long as he could hold Blackrock Mountain, reinforcements from Draenor would arrive. By then, even if he couldn't conquer the entire continent, he could still seize enough land to survive.
Thinking of this, he said to the dwarf in a deep voice, "If you dare to lie to me, I will chop off your head with an axe."
"You will not be disappointed!"
The dwarf lowered his head and promised. When Rend Blackhand couldn't see, a strange smile appeared on his face.
