The Witcher: Elemental Lords
#304 - Wassenburg
Near the mountain, the courtyard had a massive watchtower. Two third-level wizards stood on it, so naturally, he had to land there as well.
Landing slowly, Dole bowed to the two wizards and said, "Dole greets you both. Is there a procedure for entering Wassonburg?"
When the two wizards saw Dole, they exchanged glances, thinking, 'Good heavens, he's so young! He looks even younger than the youngest genius in Wassonburg. This is going to be interesting.'
The wizard with sweat on his brow smiled and said, "Wizard Dole, it's nothing major. It's just that visiting wizards need to register before entering Wassonburg, especially alchemist wizards like yourself. You'll need to wait here for a moment while we report your arrival."
Dole thought for a moment and said, "Alright, I can use the time to inquire about Wassonburg."
The two wizards nodded.
In reality, the message had already been sent inside.
The wizard who had been speaking casually said, "Wizard Dole, you have quite the talent! Reaching the third level at such a young age is truly enviable." He didn't harbor much animosity toward Dole, but rather, a sense of admiration.
Dole smiled. "If you were an alchemist and had enough resources, you could advance just as quickly. I got here by consuming potions."
Both wizards twitched at the corners of their mouths. They had never met someone so blunt. What humility!
"Alas, even consuming potions requires capital. Many family disciples don't have the opportunity to take potions; they're too expensive." Both wizards shook their heads simultaneously.
"What brings you here? Is it convenient to say?"
Dole smiled faintly, mysteriously saying, "What else would an alchemist come here for but to sell potions? However, I can't reveal the specific potion. It will appear at the auction house in a few days."
Seeing Dole's mysterious expression, both wizards raised their eyebrows simultaneously.
Before long, they both received a message.
"Alright, you can enter now. Wizard McLaren of the Alchemist Guild has vouched for you. You can meet him at the Glorious Wizard Alliance."
Dole nodded. He hadn't expected McLaren to vouch for him.
With the pass, he didn't need to walk down; he could simply fly down from there.
Soon, he arrived outside Wassonburg's city walls.
Looking at Wassonburg from a distance, the city walls were unbelievably wide, and their thickness was astonishing. Only upon reaching the city gate could one truly appreciate how formidable they were. Each rectangular granite block measured 5 * 2 * 4, and hundreds were used for just one layer, showcasing the scale.
Magical energy flowed within the city walls, indicating they were inscribed with magical runes.
At the city gate, the gate itself was particularly thick, a creation of alchemy. Once closed, Dole estimated that even if he bombarded it with Fireball spells for three days and three nights, he wouldn't be able to breach it.
Dole was filled with emotion.
After passing through the tens-of-meters-long gate tunnel, Dole finally witnessed the true splendor of the city.
Still dressed as a warrior, he looked around like a country bumpkin as he walked into the city.
Wassonburg's city defenses were naturally beyond reproach, extremely sturdy. Coupled with the natural mountain defenses outside, it was almost impossible to breach. However, this also presented a natural constraint: the city's scale couldn't be expanded further; its current size was its limit.
Dole didn't disagree. The city was indeed much more prosperous than he had imagined, and its modernization was relatively advanced. The people were relatively wealthy; he rarely saw commoners wearing hemp clothing; most wore silk. Beggars were scarce, and the streets bustled with activity, a lively scene.
At the city gate, merchant caravans were making repairs. Each caravan occupied a large area, with some engaging in individual transactions and others in bulk trades, creating a lively atmosphere.
Dole glanced at them but didn't pay much attention. He headed toward the Glorious Wizard Alliance.
Several days had passed, and Elleng should have arrived. Perhaps he had already found someone to repay the favor. Dole just needed to wait patiently.
Once someone advertised for him, the matter would be settled. All he had to do now was wait a few days patiently.
Since McLaren had vouched for him, he should meet him first. He had only met him once before; this was a good opportunity to cultivate their relationship.
Thinking this, he waved and hailed a carriage, heading toward the Glorious Wizard Alliance.
The carriage started slowly, traveling down the street. Before long, Dole felt that this place truly deserved to be the center of the Northwest Province. Tall buildings stood on all sides, creating a three-dimensional feel. The various buildings were filled with diverse cultural sentiments, decorations, renovations, and arrangements, far more upscale than Huaz City. At first glance, it felt like arriving in a true city. Even the casually hailed carriage beneath his rear seemed more high-end.
Of course, the price was also higher.
The carriage slowly traveled down the road, and Dole looked around.
Just then, he saw several people riding giant, strange beasts that were more than twice the size of ordinary horses coming from a distance. Wherever they passed, almost everyone made way for them. Pedestrians dodged, and even some sizable adventurer groups avoided them.
Dole's carriage also dodged. He was puzzled, so he asked the coachman, "Who are those people? Why are they so arrogant? Doesn't the city lord's office care?"
The coachman glanced at Dole and said, "You must be new here. Those are the geniuses from Wassonburg's major families. Who would dare stop them!"
Dole raised an eyebrow.
At that moment, those people passed by him. The tall horses carried a heavy force as they charged recklessly, truly unstoppable.
He had only seen such large horses in the Northern Kingdom's army. As cavalry, they were indeed unstoppable and extremely terrifying.
On the horses, several youths who looked to be about his age were whipping their steeds wantonly, seemingly not putting anyone else in their eyes at all.
Dole shook his head and sighed inwardly.
Nobles are nobles; they will never learn humility.
This was just a small interlude. Soon, they arrived at the Glorious Wizard Alliance.
The Glorious Wizard Alliance was located in the city center, occupying a piece of land only slightly smaller than the provincial government. Eight massive magical towers, each over twenty stories high, stood in an octagonal formation. Each tower was the largest of its kind, with an exceptionally wide base, about a hundred meters in length and width, making the scale very grand.
Each magical tower emitted a strong magical energy, spreading around the octagonal towers and throughout Wassonburg, seemingly linked to all the surrounding magical facilities, protecting all sides.
Grand, majestic, solemn, and terrifying.
The carriage stopped some distance away, just before a red circle.
Taking out two silver coins and handing them to the coachman, Dole jumped out of the carriage. He glanced at the layout of the Glorious Wizard Alliance and then walked toward the first tower.
Of the eight towers, three were open to the public. Dole walked while sending a message. Soon, he received a reply, then changed direction and headed toward Tower Number Three, where Wizard McLaren was. He didn't often go to the Alchemist Guild; he usually stayed at the Glorious Wizard Alliance.
Just then, Dole felt that someone was watching him.
He turned his head and looked back, only to see a small team of mercenaries passing by. But when he looked, he couldn't find who was looking at him.
