#110 - I have a special skill in giving examples.
The tool people were a mix of thoughtful, seemingly understanding, and dismissive with headshakes.
The chubby, nerdy planner scratched his head: "It feels like there's no difference between a pet fighting and fighting yourself? I think it's more fun to fight myself."
The bespectacled planner pushed up his glasses: "I see, combining the fun of raising pets with battles…"
Everyone looked at Wang Jian, wanting to know what he would say.
Wang Jian first affirmed Bai Li'ao's point: "That's right, raising is one of the greatest joys of 'Pokémon,' and raising pets is very different from raising warships and mecha! Let me give you an example."
As he spoke, he picked up Black Rice, who was resting on the table.
Then he tossed Black Rice back onto the table and shouted, "Go, Meowth!"
Black Rice opened his eyes, utterly bewildered: ???
Wang Jian grabbed Black Rice's paw and raised it, saying seriously, "Meowth, use Scratch!"
Black Rice: ??????
Wang Jian released Black Rice and returned to his normal expression: "See, it's that kind of feeling."
Black Rice jumped off the table, disgruntled: This daddy is leaving!
The tool people planners opened their mouths, a look of understanding dawning on their faces, as if they had just seen the light. ♦♦ ♦♦
They began to discuss in low voices.
"It doesn't seem quite the same."
"It feels a bit childish, but I want to be childish too."
"I suddenly remembered playing with toy soldiers as a kid, picking up two soldiers and going 'rat-a-tat-tat, rat-a-tat-tat.' Back then, I imagined my little soldiers could move."
"That's right, I loved watching those childish cartoons! Shouting out the moves along with them!"
"So, is the target audience for 'Pokémon' children?"
"Kids will definitely like it, but adults with childlike hearts like me should also enjoy this type of thing."
"Damn, your face is so thick."
Wang Jian smiled slightly and continued, "Actually, 'Pokémon' has four core joys! They are raising, collecting, trading, and battling."
Four core joys! Bai Li'ao was suddenly shocked. He had only thought of one point. Was this the difference between him and the boss!
Looking at Wang Jian's faint smile, he felt even more that Wang Jian was like a towering mountain, whose peak could never be seen.
Immediately, he felt somewhat ashamed for the slight pride he had just felt.
He was still not mature enough! Young people should learn more.
Wang Jian never expected that Bai Li'ao would think of a bunch of random things in his head in that instant.
He clicked on the PPT: "To talk about raising, we still have to start with the Pokémon's stats.
A Pokémon has six stats: HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. These six values are called the six stats.
But not all trainers' Pokémon have the same six stats, and even the same Pokémon can have huge differences for various reasons. And these six stats that are ultimately displayed to the players, we call them Abilities.
The reason for the different Ability values lies in these four parts: Base Stats, Individual Values, Nature Modifier, and Effort Values.
Base Stats determine the Pokémon's Ability cap."
A new page of the PPT showed sketches of Charmander and Bulbasaur, drawn by Tong Ke earlier, which Wang Jian happened to use here.
The tool people discussed: "Is this the Pokémon?"
"It's not quite what I imagined. I thought it would be fierce."
"I thought it would be cute, like a pet."
"The Charmander has a flame on its tail, so magical."
"This Bulbasaur… no, this Bulbasaur is also very interesting, ugly and cute."
Wang Jian said: "Charmander's Base Stat is 309, meaning its total of six stats is at most 309. Bulbasaur's Base Stat is 318, which is similar to Charmander's.
Some weaker Pokémon, like Magikarp, have a Base Stat of only 200. And one of the strongest Pokémon, Mewtwo, has a Base Stat of 680.
When a Pokémon meets certain conditions, it can choose to evolve! After evolution, not only will the Base Stat increase, but it can also master new skills. A very useless Pokémon may become incredibly powerful after evolving!"
With Wang Jian's clicks, the Charmander on the PPT evolved into the mighty Charizard, and the Bulbasaur evolved into the steady Venusaur. From the appearance, you could feel the huge difference in strength.
Tool people: ⊙o⊙
"I can do this!"
"Like a husky at home suddenly turning into a Tibetan mastiff!"
"This kind of evolution, with both form and strength improved, simply magnifies the sense of accomplishment of raising to the extreme!"
Wang Jian said: "Individual Values are easy to understand. Even the same species will definitely have differences in Ability values between different individuals.
And Nature, people have all kinds of personalities, and Pokémon are the same. Such as Brave, Adamant, Naughty, etc., not just the literal meaning of personality, but also affecting the Pokémon's attributes.
For example, Brave will increase the Pokémon's Attack while decreasing its Speed. The attributes affected by Nature are multiplied by a percentage."
Bai Li'ao was a little excited: "Nature not only affects the Pokémon's combat ability, but also makes each Pokémon more unique and more humane! Players will unconsciously invest more emotion when cultivating them, not only regarding Pokémon as combat tools, but as friends and partners!"
Wang Jian said: "There are also Effort Values. Even if two Pokémon have the same Base Stats, Individual Values, and Nature, there is still one thing that can affect their Abilities, and that is Effort Values.
Each Ability, HP, Attack, Defense… has its corresponding Effort Value. Each Pokémon has its corresponding Effort Value that it can obtain. After defeating a Pokémon, the opponent Pokémon's obtainable Effort Value will be added to all participating Pokémon on your side."
This was a bit convoluted, but everyone still understood the meaning and nodded.
For example, if Pokémon A's corresponding Effort Value is Attack, defeating A with Pokémon B will increase Attack.
Wang Jian smiled: "Compared to Effort Values, I prefer to call them… Training Values.
Training Values are the condensed experience of a Pokémon's battles, the proof that it has worked hard."
Training Values?
The planners couldn't help but imagine how a Pokémon, from its weakest state, trains hard, fights different Pokémon one by one, gains experience in repeated victories or defeats, evolves through persistent efforts, and finally becomes a capable existence.
The chubby, nerdy planner muttered: "Why do I feel like this game has suddenly become inspiring?"
