#235 - Orphanage Xijiayi
A certain internet cafe.
"Hey boss, how's it going? Had dinner yet? I'd like to book a machine for the night."
A young man with delicate features took out his ID card from his pocket and handed it over.
Judging by how familiar he seemed with the owner, he was probably a regular at this internet cafe.
The owner smiled and took the ID card, swiping it through the reader. "Right on time as always, huh? Got your usual machine reserved for you, number 32!"
Watching Gu Cheng settle into his usual spot, the owner sighed inwardly.
Such a good kid, but how could he have run into such misfortune!
His parents died in a car accident, leaving behind only him and his sick younger sister.
Gu Cheng was originally a university freshman, but in order to take care of his sister, he resolutely decided to drop out and work to earn money to support his family.
Just when he was about to look for a job, a high school classmate learned of his situation. Perhaps out of concern for a fellow student, he contacted him and said, 'You're good at League of Legends, can you help me get to Gold rank? I'll give you a hundred bucks.'
Gu Cheng effortlessly helped his classmate reach Gold rank in less than half a day, and immediately saw an opportunity, becoming a power leveling player.
For someone with only a high school education and a difficult family situation, this was the best choice.
During the day, he cooked and took care of his sister while also catching up on sleep, and at night he came out to take on orders.
"Phew... I should be able to finish this order and hand it in today."
Gu Cheng quickly turned on the computer and logged into the account.
This order was from Diamond III to Diamond I, charging 500 yuan.
The client had worked with him once before and was very generous, directly paying half in advance.
Gu Cheng's own rank was Challenger, but playing in Diamond I wasn't like easily crushing the Gold rank, he had to take it seriously.
It would be great to have a Challenger duo, but he hadn't found a reliable partner in terms of personality and skill, so he was still solo queuing.
Entering the champion select screen, he typed first: "5th floor power leveling, mid lane, check my match history."
His teammates used the 'League Box' to check the ID's match history, and indeed, two pages were all green!
"Ok, we'll go bot 3 and 4."
"1st floor can jungle or top."
"Then 2nd floor top, 1 go jungle."
"5th floor, what champion do you want? I'll help you pick it."
Gu Cheng said, "No need, just pick whatever you want."
He knew quite a few mid lane champions, and when power leveling, he liked to choose more aggressive ones that could solo kill the opposing mid laner during the laning phase.
To win consistently, he had to ensure he could carry.
The champion selection process was quick. Their bot lane was probably a duo, picking Blitzcrank and Caitlyn, clearly with a strategy.
When Blitzcrank's Rocket Grab fires, Caitlyn immediately places a trap under Blitzcrank's feet. If the coordination is good, the trap's root can connect with Blitzcrank's brief stun, and before the 1.5-second root ends, Blitzcrank follows up with an E, Power Fist, knocking the enemy into the air, controlling them for a long time.
If a squishy ADC gets caught and takes this combo, eating the full damage, it's basically a guaranteed death.
The opposing bot lane chose a Miss Fortune and Leona combo, equally aggressive. Moreover, Leona is a tank support, thick-skinned and not afraid of Blitzcrank's hook.
Their jungler quickly locked in Lee Sin. This champion is very popular in high elo, strong in 1v1 in the jungle, and fast at ganking, but relatively weak in the late game.
The opposing jungler chose an Amumu, seemingly wanting to coordinate with the bot lane Miss Fortune and Leona for a teamfight ultimate combo.
Their top lane was Mundo, the enemy's was Jarvan IV.
Gu Cheng chose Annie for mid lane, the opponent chose Kassadin.
Kassadin's passive, Void Stone, reduces magic damage taken by 15%, and his Q deals damage while also granting a magic damage absorbing shield, so mages don't have an easy time against this champion.
However, Gu Cheng wasn't afraid of Kassadin at all. Don't let Annie's appearance fool you, she may be a cute little girl who often asks if anyone has seen her teddy bear, but she's one of the most violent mages in League of Legends.
Lee Sin said, "Annie, I'll gank for you a few times early."
Gu Cheng didn't stand on ceremony: "Ok."
"Welcome to League of Legends."
As the system's voice sounded, this Diamond I game officially began.
Gu Cheng directly bought a Crystalline Flask and three Biscuits. Generally, people start with a Doran's Ring, but against Kassadin, you need enough consumables to regenerate.
He learned Q, Disintegrate, at level 1. This is Annie's most core skill, and the key to her strong lane pressure in the early game. It has a super short 4-second cooldown, and last-hitting minions refunds mana.
Kassadin clearly knew his advantage against mages. As soon as he came up, he last-hit a minion while throwing a Q at Annie's face, retreating backward.
Gu Cheng didn't rush to use Q. Annie waved her hand and shot a small fireball, auto-attacking Kassadin once, while walking forward. When Kassadin's magic shield disappeared, he followed up with an auto-attack and a Q, elegantly turning around to avoid attracting minion aggro.
In this trade, Kassadin lost a bit, and unhesitatingly drank a health potion. He also started with a Crystalline Flask and health potions.
Although they only exchanged blows once, he immediately felt that the opposing Annie was not an easy target to bully.
Gu Cheng's Annie and Kassadin began to exchange blows fiercely, both wanting to suppress the other. Both sides' health and consumables quickly decreased.
Kassadin still had an advantage against mages. When both sides were level 3, although both were at half health, Gu Cheng had one less health potion than the opponent.
On the minimap, Lee Sin could already be seen walking towards mid lane through the river.
But when Lee Sin arrived near the mid lane in the river, he discovered that an Amumu covered in bandages was actually ahead of him.
The exchange of blows in mid lane was very intense. Amumu naturally wanted to gank mid, and Kassadin was a champion who needed kills to scale, making him worth helping. A late-game Kassadin was simply invincible.
Seeing Amumu, Gu Cheng immediately controlled Annie's positioning, causing Amumu's bandage toss to hit a minion, avoiding the stun.
Dodging the bandage, he immediately followed up with a QW combo. After level 3, he didn't level E, but instead leveled Q to level 2, dealing very high damage.
Annie's fiery ball hit Amumu, who was already not at full health, leaving him with only one-third of his health. He cried and walked towards the turret.
Lee Sin chased after Amumu, a Q hitting him! He immediately followed up with the second part of Q. Kassadin turned around to try and block for Amumu, but failed.
Amumu played very calmly. After Lee Sin's Q chased him, he immediately flashed, dodging Lee Sin's E ground slam damage, and narrowly escaped with 50 health.
Gu Cheng wasn't sure if Lee Sin could hit Amumu, so he didn't use Ignite immediately. Seeing Amumu escape, he also felt a bit regretful.
"I'm coming, fight!" The opposing Jarvan IV said succinctly in the team chat.
Just as Lee Sin kicked Amumu, a red whirlwind immediately appeared on the mid lane minion wave. This was Jarvan IV about to teleport to support. Seeing this, Kassadin advanced instead of retreating, using an E to slow both of them, wanting to delay their escape.
Gu Cheng and Lee Sin immediately focused fire on Kassadin. Kassadin's health dropped rapidly. He flashed to try and escape, but with his health, it was a guaranteed kill. Lee Sin flashed to chase, and Gu Cheng also decisively flashed Ignite and auto-attacked, killing Kassadin under the turret, and securing his first kill.
