#298 - Cat, live!
Wang Jian had already accumulated a wealth of cat-related material, and now that his inspiration was triggered, it gushed out like a rushing river.
The game "Cats, Survive!" is as simple as its title suggests: you play as a stray cat trying to survive in a concrete jungle city.
Is it difficult?
Extremely difficult!
Wang Jian only experienced it for a day, and he deeply felt the helplessness and exhaustion of being a stray cat.
And he was going to incorporate this survival pressure into the game.
What kind of difficulties might a stray cat encounter?
First, it has to fill its stomach, which means rummaging through trash cans, looking for leftover scraps of human food, some of which may be spoiled or expired, and eating them could lead to illness; when thirsty, it can only drink stinky water from the sewers, or water with detergent bubbles flowing out from shops cleaning their floors; in the city, rat poison is placed in inconspicuous places in many public areas, and if ingested by mistake, it can cause lethargy, loss of appetite, bleeding from the mouth, nose, tongue, and teeth in mild cases, and in severe cases, muscle weakness throughout the body, leading to collapse and becoming a cold corpse.
In addition to finding food and water, they also have to face the threat of humans. Not all humans are kind to cats. Like the yellow-hatted man Wang Jian encountered, they sternly scold the cat to leave. There are also ignorant children who pull on the cat's ears for fun, and parents who spoil their children will throw stones at the cat to drive it away after the child is done tormenting it.
These human behaviors are considered good. Some psychopaths enjoy torturing cats for pleasure. They deliberately pretend to be nice to the cats, lure them with food, and then poison the food, or use various cruel methods to torture them, such as using pliers to clip them, throwing them from high-rise buildings, watching the cats die miserably while howling, and even filming videos to upload to the internet. Their twisted psychology is satisfied by torturing small animals, which is extremely shameful and hateful.
There are also cat catchers who specialize in catching stray cats to sell to restaurants for profit.
Besides humans, there are also stray cat rivals who fight fiercely for food, territory, and mates...
The city of steel and concrete also has many places that are natural traps for stray cats.
Some stray cats inadvertently enter high-rise buildings, jump from windows to window sills below, and don't know how to jump away. At a height of seven or eight floors, jumping directly down would undoubtedly be fatal, and not jumping would lead to starvation.
Some kittens get trapped in drainage ditches while looking for food; some get trapped on elevated bridges with constant traffic and noise. Although kind people insisted on feeding them and eventually rescued them, they became extremely irritable.
How to keep warm at night or when it gets cold in winter is also a problem.
Stray cats like to hide under vehicles, relying on the residual heat of the engine to keep warm. Some even climb into the vehicle along the chassis, which can easily lead to crushing accidents. Therefore, experienced car owners will shake the engine a couple of times or knock on the chassis to drive the cat away before driving.
Therefore, Wang Jian designed five attribute values for the game:
Hunger (Fullness), Health, Strength, Cleanliness, and Mood.
First is fullness, the most important thing for survival is to fill your stomach.
Prolonged hunger, eating rotten food, rat poison, or injuries from fighting with other cats will all decrease health.
Strength is useful when competing with other cats for food and territory. If strength is high, the damage received in fights will be reduced. If the difference is large, it can even achieve the effect of subduing the enemy without fighting.
Cleanliness seems useless at first glance, but it has some hidden effects. High cleanliness makes it easier to attract human favor and have a higher chance of being fed, while low cleanliness not only has a higher chance of being scolded and driven away with stones, but may also cause illness.
Mood is also a very important attribute, but it is a hidden attribute. In a good mood, both training and hunting will be more efficient, while in a bad mood, training efficiency will be low, and mistakes may be made frequently when hunting, and fighting will also be ineffective. Even when the mood is too low, there may be a loss of appetite and starvation.
What players have to do is to keep each of the cat's attributes as high as possible and not let them drop to the lowest.
When health drops to the lowest, the game will be GAME OVER.
If it's just a cat survival game, then it's obviously not interesting enough.
Therefore, Wang Jian designed 3 characters for the game: a black cat, a white cat, and an orange cat.
The black cat's strength上限 is higher than the other two cats, and it will gain more strength during training.
The white cat's characteristic is charm bonus, its cleanliness上限 is higher, it decreases more slowly, and it is easier to gain human favor and be fed.
The orange cat is a disabled cat with a broken leg. It broke a leg when it was hit by a stone thrown by a naughty kid when it was young, and its health上限 is lower.
Although its mobility is lower than the other two cats, it also has a keen intuition because of this, and can distinguish between kindness and malice.
It can sense who is genuinely trying to feed it and who is pretending to be kind and wants to abuse it, so it can seek advantages and avoid disadvantages.
However, overall, the orange cat's starting difficulty is still higher than the other two cats.
After all, a crippled leg makes it much more difficult to find food or fight.
Each cat, in addition to the differences in their talent attributes, will also have their own exclusive different plots.
However, Wang Jian currently only has a general idea and has not perfected it very much.
In his idea, the black cat's exclusive plot is to encounter a beautiful girl targeted by bad guys on a deserted street at night.
The girl is very scared. Just as the bad guys are about to make a move, the black cat uses its invincible strength to drive away the bad guys and rescue the girl.
This plot is triggered at a fixed time and location. If the black cat's strength has not reached 100, choosing to save the girl will result in being directly beaten to death by the bad guys for no reason—but the girl will take this opportunity to escape, so that the player's efforts are not in vain.
This death will trigger an ending.
And if the strength reaches 100, it will enter a fighting segment. By operating, it will drive away the bad guys, win the girl's heart, and be kept by a rich woman from then on, a HAPPY ENDING.
The white cat's exclusive plot is to encounter a girl who is being subjected to domestic violence and has a fragile and sensitive heart.
It comforts the girl's injured heart, and the girl protects the white cat when it is beaten.
The girl eventually grows up to be an excellent person and marries a gentle husband, and lives a happy life with the white cat.
The orange cat's exclusive plot is to encounter a simp—literally a dog.
This dog is also a stray dog, and also has a disability, being blind in one eye. Although it looks big, it is willing to play with the orange cat, and often licks the orange cat's face wildly and shares its food with the orange cat.
The orange cat also goes from being afraid at first to accepting it with disgust.
A cat and a dog support each other and live strongly in this steel city.
In addition to the exclusive plots, there are also some common plots.
For example, an old man in the slums who likes cats will take out his treasured sausage that he has been reluctant to eat and feed it to the cat when he sees the cat come to his door.
If you go to see the old man multiple times, you can trigger the plot.
Saying that Wang Jian's conception is immature, it is actually my conception that is immature, or rather, I am not sure that I can write it well. Hehe, but this has been brewing for a long time, so it should be able to be written well. If you have any ideas about the plot, you can also mention them.
