#351 - Isn't that better?
Seeing the wolf's close-up, the viewers started discussing.
"He's kinda handsome!"
"The Tony Leung of the Warring States period!"
"Hahaha!"
The narrator slowly said: "For over twenty years since he single-mindedly sought to usurp the country, the Ashina nation has reached its twilight years, and Wolf the ninja has lost everything. His foster father, who raised him with kindness, and the master he was sworn to protect..."
"Oh? So, are you saying both the foster father and the master he just acknowledged are dead?" Stone speculated casually during the cutscene. "Probably not. Didn't the trailer say that as a ninja, even if he's defeated, he'll definitely rescue his master? Maybe his master has been kidnapped, and we have to rescue him. That should be the goal of the game.
Hey, I actually feel like 'Sekiro' has a plot similar to some traditional RPGs, except the story of the hero rescuing the princess has been replaced with a ninja rescuing his lord. Does that make sense?"
Amidst the melodious violin music filled with a faint sorrow, goose feather-like snowflakes fluttered like willow catkins, covering the pine trees and cliffs with a layer of pale white. A woman holding a red paper umbrella slowly strolled through the mountains, her footsteps making a "sha, sha" sound as she stepped in the snow.
Although her face wasn't visible, her calm and graceful gait and figure suggested that under the red paper umbrella was a woman of stunning beauty.
Stone said regretfully, "Wow, isn't that the lady from the trailer? I really want to see her face!"
Many viewers even started calling her "waifu."
The woman finally stopped at the edge of a cliff, squatted down, and extended a beautiful, fair hand. With a mature voice carrying an air of authority, she unhurriedly called out, "Please awaken."
Her slender hand tilted slightly downward, and a neatly tied letter slid from her hand, floating down towards the bottom of the cliff.
"For your... master."
The letter landed on the empty, quiet cliff bottom with a clear "thud." Wolf leaned against the stone wall, his head buried in his arms as if he were sleeping, motionless like a dead man.
A cherry blossom petal on his greaves was stirred by the wind, and the bell rang with a "clang." Wolf's fingers twitched, and he slowly raised his head.
He looked more haggard than when he acknowledged his lord. One side of his hair had turned white, and the edge near his hairline was stained with a patch of silver, as if it had been brushed with gold powder used for writing couplets. It was unknown what he had gone through.
Wolf stood up and turned his gaze to the letter on the ground in front of him.
"Oh, I can control him now!" Stone picked up the letter. "A letter from Lady Hana-shōbu? Is that girl's name Hana-shōbu?"
Here, he misunderstood. Hana-shōbu is actually the Ashina clan's crest.
The letter read: "To Wolf, retainer of Lord Kuro.
Your destiny now lies in the Moonview Tower. Please leave the well and proceed there.
Even without a weapon, you can reach your destination by advancing stealthily."
Following the instructions in the letter, Stone crawled out of the sewer. He had no weapon and only a sliver of health, so he couldn't afford to be discovered by the enemy.
He crouched down and moved stealthily through the grass, clinging to the edge of the cliff, and slipped into a wooden house through a hole in the wall, kneeling on one knee to show respect.
A candle burned, and the camera slowly panned to reveal a boy of about ten years old? Sitting on a wooden box, reading by the candlelight.
He was barefoot, his fair and smooth feet exposed, with one foot on the wooden box and the other below, appearing somewhat playful and casual. As if sensing something, he turned to look in Wolf's direction. His features were delicate like a porcelain doll, and there was a hint of surprise in his eyes. His smooth, shoulder-length hair fluttered with the mountain breeze entering the wooden house, adding a touch of gentleness.
Stone stared blankly at the boy on the screen, his mouth wide open, dumbfounded. The chat exploded instantly!
"Shocked!"
"What an adorable little sister!"
"Waifu, what are you doing here? Come home with me!"
"Nice feet! I want to lick them!!"
"Ew! Disgusting, take me with you!"
"I'm ashamed to say..."
The boy supported himself on the edge of the box and jumped to the ground, his voice friendly: "...That's great, you've come."
"Everyone calm down, it's a boy!!!"
"It's a boy? It's a boy??"
"Isn't that even better?"
"Drawing a girl and insisting she's a boy!"
"Stone, what are you doing with your hand down there!?"
Stone calmed down and clicked his tongue: "If my master was such an adorable boy, I would be loyal to him too."
The boy walked up to Wolf, who was kneeling on one knee, bent down, and extended his short hand gently: "It's been a while, Wolf."
Wolf did not take the hand his master offered, but lowered his head further, looking at the floor, his voice low: "I have come to greet you, my lord."
Stone analyzed: "Hmm, it seems Wolf feels very guilty for failing to protect his master and doesn't dare to look at him. But this boy doesn't blame Wolf at all, and instead wants to comfort him."
The boy seemed somewhat disappointed and said "Hmm" before turning and leaving.
He returned a moment later, holding a black katana with both hands, and said calmly: "Raise your head."
This time, there was less gentleness in his voice and more of the dignity befitting a master and servant. However, even when the boy was serious, he still looked young, making people want to protect him.
"This is your sword—Kusabimaru."
The dim silver moonlight shone through the dusty and cobweb-filled skylight, and the melodious sound of a bamboo flute played softly, seemingly flowing with the loyal bond between master and servant.
The boy held the black Kusabimaru, standing barefoot in front of Wolf, the yellow light of the candle flickering slightly.
"My ninja, follow the pact of master and servant, and risk your life to be of use to me."
This sentence was repeatedly mentioned in the trailer and previous cutscenes, subtly reinforcing the theme of the game.
Wolf took the Kusabimaru with both hands and said in a deep voice: "As you command."
"The sword received from the divine heir, Lord Kuro, is a heirloom of the Ashina's branch family—the Hirata clan.
Though once lost, it has returned to Wolf's hands.
The name Kusabimaru contains a wish: even if a ninja is destined to kill, he must not abandon the slightest bit of compassion... Will the blade understand this wish?"
After reading the description of Kusabimaru, which he couldn't experience in the trial version, Stone thought to himself: "This item description is quite interesting. It seems 'Sekiro' isn't just about the exciting battles, but also has an excellent story."
Afterward, Stone spoke to Kuro and received a healing gourd from him.
Kuro then asked: "Your body... are you alright after that?"
"After that... you mean?"
"That night, don't you remember?"
Stone raised an eyebrow: "Hmm?"
"????"
"That night???"
"What did you do that night, Wolf!"
"Risky lines."
Seeing that Wolf didn't remember, Kuro changed the subject: "Hmm... never mind, we'll talk about it later. We have to leave Ashina Castle now."
