Chapter 145 Attacker
"Why did you ask us to come here?"
In a dimly lit building, three students stood in an empty environment, showing different emotions.
The tall boy leaning against the wall was playing with a dagger in his hand. Two other girls had just entered the room. One girl was obviously angry, while the other had a sneer on her face.
"You should know that we need to keep a low profile for a while, right?" the angry girl asked the boy.
"Of course I know. Do you think I would call you here for no reason, Pico?" Reina stood up and replied, "The target is not dead."
Pik's anger turned into surprise, his eyes widened as he tried to digest the meaning of this statement. "What do you mean he's not dead? Our plan was executed so perfectly! There's no way he could have survived."
Reyna, still playing with the dagger, nodded. "I know we did a good job."
They were indeed well prepared. Before carrying out the mission, they had thoroughly investigated the target's background and possible skills, prepared all the necessary props, and everything went according to plan, with the target under their control.
However, there was an unexpected event that exceeded their expectations.
"Apparently, we underestimated him, and he somehow survived. Do you remember that shining light in the dungeon? I think something happened then."
After the words fell, the three fell silent. They understood the information and its possible consequences.
The second girl, Anne, interrupted with a sneer: "It seems that my dear Morse is much more tenacious than we thought, and perhaps he is more interesting than he appears." Her tone was relaxed, even with a hint of excitement, which was out of tune with the tense atmosphere.
"Shut up!" Pik said angrily, "Now is not the time to joke!" Her panic began to show, and her voice trembled as she said, "If he is still alive, he will expose everything about us! We can't let that happen!"
Reina walked towards Pique, his face serious. "That's why I called you here. We need to regroup and make a new plan. This time, there can be no mistakes."
His eyes alternated between Pico and Anne. "You both know what would happen if we failed."
The heaviness of the situation spread and everyone fell silent.
They had never been prepared for this kind of situation. How could they have expected anything unexpected to happen when they were planning to assassinate the weakest student in the academy?
But now, that ego is taking its toll.
In the tense silence, Anne's sneer disappeared, but Peake's panic remained. Even the craziest people knew what fate would await them once their relationship with the devil was exposed.
Reiner took control of the topic, pacing as he spoke in a calm tone: "We need to reassess the situation. Morse is still alive and changes everything. We can't underestimate him anymore."
Anne leaned against the wall, crossing her arms. "So, what's the plan now? We can't just do anything without knowing what he's capable of."
Pique regained his composure a little, and added, "And we have to be more careful this time. We can't draw any attention. The last thing we want is the academy getting involved."
Reina nodded in agreement and sighed bitterly. "I don't want the academy to get involved, but it's too late now. They should have realized that some of the students who entered the dungeon are devil contractors."
Reina showed his smart watch, and the screen displayed a message from the college investigation team, asking Reina to accept investigation.
"We may even have to abandon the mission and run away. With so many eyes watching, it will be very difficult to complete the mission."
Pike's eyes widened with worry and he blurted out, "Then where are we going? The organization won't let us go. We're already in too deep. The only way out is to complete the mission as quickly as possible and leave the academy during the holidays. This is our only way out."
Anne was silent for a moment, then spoke in a serious tone: "Pike is right. We can't escape the organization, and if we can complete the mission, perhaps we can still have some value. We must now focus on dealing with Morse. Find out what he knows and use it. We can't fail again."
Reina nodded reluctantly. "Okay, we stick to the original plan, but we have to be more careful and not make any mistakes. We also need to figure out what happened in the dungeon. What happened with that light may be the key to Morse being alive."
Pik's face was full of frustration and anxiety, unable to suppress her resentment. "That Morse is just an orphan who got lucky, how could he possibly fight against us..."
At this moment, suddenly a muffled sound echoed in the empty room along with the sound of wind and splashing liquid.
Before Pik could even finish her words, she felt a sharp pain and something pierced her forehead, blood splattering everywhere.
Then, other bullets pierced her body one by one.
In just one second, Pique fell to the ground seriously injured.
"Um?"
The first one to react was Reina, who noticed the blood under Pique.
"We're under attack!"
he shouted, quickly assessing the shooting angle. From the shadows, the unseen attacker continued to fire.
Reiner immediately activated his demonic powers, a dark aura enveloping him as he began to look for cover, his eyes scanning for the source of the attack.
"bullet?"
He saw the falling bullets and whispered to himself. Bullets are not commonly used weapons. For the strong, the power of guns is very limited.
"Hey, hey, hey...is that you?"
Anne laughed as she quickly sought cover while drawing her terrifying scythe.
The gleam in her eyes showed that she was ready for a fight, and the crazy smile from before returned to her face.
"Who are you!"
Reina yelled, trying to get a reaction from his attacker. He had taken cover, as had Annie.
silence.
There was no response, only an eerie silence left in the room.
'How did he get past our radar? ' he thought to himself.
They set up security measures at the entrance, which was one of the main reasons why the Federation failed to completely eradicate the devil's followers.
'No, now is not the time to think about that.'
Reina forced himself to concentrate and moved his eyes to the bloodstains under Pique's serious injuries.
'We can't delay any longer.'
The sound of bullets stopped and darkness enveloped the room.
'Where's the light?'
He suddenly realized that all the lights were out.
'They were broken.'
Reina looked up at the ceiling and found that all the light bulbs had been broken. Although it was pitch black, as a demon human, his senses were extremely sharp and he could clearly perceive everything around him.
He could hear and feel everything clearly, but still had no information about the attacker.
'Damn it!'
Realizing that time was running out, Reina quickly stood up and walked towards Pique.
Suddenly, my eyes lit up.
A flash of light caught his attention, and he immediately sensed the fluctuations of mana on the ceiling.
'not good!'
Although he sensed the danger, it was too late.
whoosh!
Guided by magic power, an arrow flew over, this time containing stronger energy.
It was an arrow wrapped in blue-gold magic power, and the huge energy fluctuations made Reina feel threatened.
boom!
The arrow exploded near Reina, and the shockwave of the blast threw him away, causing him to stumble back a few steps.
Bang!
Reina lost his balance and crashed into the wall. The demon armor absorbed some of the impact, but he still felt dazed and lost his sense of direction for a short time.
"Hehehe! I finally found you."
At this moment, he realized that he was not alone.
Anne seized the opportunity and immediately rushed in the direction where the arrow came from, the sickle in her hand emitting a dangerous light, ready to strike down the invisible enemy.
whoosh!
Her scythe cut through the air, aiming at the ethereal enemy. However, the weapon struck nothing as it swung through the air.
"What's going on?" Annie exclaimed, her eyes quickly scanning the darkness. She looked around, but found no trace of the enemy.
whoosh!
Almost at the same time, another arrow flew over, as if the attacker had already predicted Anne's actions.
prick!
The arrow hit Annie's shoulder accurately. Although the arrow was not as powerful as before, she still felt the pain so much that she hardly noticed its presence.
"Well……"
Anne clenched her teeth, a sneer still on her lips.
Bang!
Anne landed safely on the ground.
Reina recovered from the explosion and barely managed to stand firm. He quickly activated his demonic power and formed a protective barrier around himself.
"Annie, what happened?" he called out anxiously, his eyes scanning the dark room.
"I... I don't know," Anne replied, with a hint of frustration in her voice. She was puzzled by the sudden disappearance of her enemy.
Whoosh! Puff!
However, in the silence that followed, they heard the sound of liquid splashing and a muffled voice.
"Well……"
They quickly turned their attention to the source of the sound and saw Pieck lying on the ground with severe injuries. Another arrow had accurately pierced her heart...
"No……"
And that arrow is glowing.
boom!
Another explosion occurred, shaking the entire building.
