Two Worlds: I studied at Hogwarts
#92 - Hand warmer material
After deciding to create hand warmers, the Gryffindor students each had their own assigned tasks.
However, due to the frequent mistakes made by Harry and Ron, the main responsibilities now rested on Moon and Hermione.
Especially Hermione, who now had to carry the flame from the jam jar with her at all times and carefully record every change in the flame.
This included the start time, duration, temperature changes, and whether the flame flared up or diminished of the [Fire-Making Charm]...
Hermione meticulously recorded all of these details.
Moon, on the other hand, was responsible for summarizing the previous experiment's experience after each [Fire-Making Charm] extinguished, then making modifications before re-igniting the flame.
Among all the participants involved in modifying the [Fire-Making Charm], only Moon could accurately grasp the subtle changes in the spell during the casting process.
Especially the changes in stress within the incantation, the angle and speed of the wand movement...
These incredibly precise details were beyond even Hermione's capabilities, so only Moon could handle them.
"I think you'd better look at the last record, that way you can ensure that there won't be any mistakes."
Hermione was very meticulous in everything she did. Even though she knew Moon had a good memory, she still retrieved the spellcasting record for Flame Number Two from the last time.
"The incantation..."
,
"The stress of the incantation is at the end, and the angle of the wand movement must be reduced twice."
Just as Hermione flipped to the place where the last record was, Moon recited the contents of the notebook verbatim.
"Oh~, alright, tell me how you've modified it this time, I need to make a note."
Hermione took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down.
Moon didn't pay attention to this, he pointed to Jar Number Three.
"I've shifted the stress of this spell forward by one small syllable."
Then he pointed to Jar Number Five.
"The scale of this spell hasn't changed, I've just slowed down the speed of the wand movement a little."
Once Moon finished speaking, Hermione had also finished writing everything down.
"Okay, so this is a readjustment based on Number Two, but after trying so many times, what do you think counts as success?"
Hermione put down her quill and seriously scrutinized Moon, who was sitting across from her.
After a week of cooperation, Hermione had already discovered qualities in Moon that she didn't possess.
When it came to reading and studying, Hermione was confident that she wouldn't lose to anyone, but when faced with modifying spells, which required strong practical skills and meticulous observation, she could only say that she still needed to practice.
And Moon just happened to possess these abilities.
Especially now that they had divided the work, with Hermione only needing to be responsible for recording and not having to think or act, she had also found her area of expertise.
"I think for the first version, we need to at least ensure that the [Fire-Making Charm] burns continuously for three days without any accidents, that would be considered a preliminary success."
After deciding to make hand warmers, Moon and the others found ten jars, and now there were only four left that were still being tested and compared.
However, the results were very good. Number Two had already lasted a whole day.
If this little flame could last until next Monday, then it would meet the requirements Moon had set.
"I have a lot of confidence in Number Two."
Hermione said as she successively covered Jar Number Three and Number Five and put them into her large pocket.
"By the way, what do you want to use to hold these little flames?"
Hermione was the first to discover the special properties of these jam jars, so she used them for the experiments.
But after carrying the jars around with her recently, she found that it was very inconvenient.
The shape of the jars wasn't standard, which made them very awkward to hold.
Also, the weight of the jars made Hermione feel like she was doing weight training.
Especially after conducting a large number of experiments with the [Fire-Making Charm], Hermione felt that these ordinary jars were no longer worthy of the little flames.
"Of course, I've already thought about it."
"What is it?"
"The material used to make [Snape]."
Hearing Moon say this, Hermione instantly understood.
[Snape] referred to the clay figure in the spell practice classroom, a fact that only a few of them knew.
"[Snape] can withstand so many spells, it can definitely withstand the [Fire-Making Charm]."
"That's right, and [Snape]'s face can change, we can use it as a material to make some cute expressions."
Moon was only thinking that the material used to make [Snape] had good protective properties.
But Hermione was thinking about making beautiful patterns.
This made Moon feel that the two of them were not focusing on the same thing.
"I remember the clay figures are all made of mud, do you know where this soil comes from?"
Thinking about being able to make her own unique hand warmer, Hermione became a little anxious.
"I don't know, I was thinking of asking Professor Sprout after the first version of the [Fire-Making Charm] is successful,"
"Professor Sprout? Why not ask Filch, didn't he provide this clay figure?"
"Filch only confiscated [Snape], he definitely doesn't know, but the making of clay figures must involve soil, so Professor Sprout should know."
As the Herbology professor at Hogwarts, Sprout should be the most knowledgeable person about the soil around Hogwarts.
Moon had once discovered in the Herbology Club that this professor had brought back several different colored soils to cultivate different magical plants.
"Okay, if possible, let's go dig up some soil together then."
"Okay."
After deciding to use clay figure soil to make the hand warmer, Moon also wrote down his modification insights.
Through this modification of the [Fire-Making Charm], Moon truly experienced the difficulty of modifying spells.
In the past, he only thought that focusing on the incantation and wand movements was enough.
Now it seemed that this was far from enough.
After discussing the making of the hand warmer with Hermione, Moon set off to eat breakfast with his roommates.
On the way to the Great Hall, Ron was again giving Harry ideas.
After Snape confiscated [The Wonder of Quidditch] last time, Harry had been wanting to get the book back.
But because he was a little afraid of Snape, he had been hesitant to act.
"If you ask me, the best thing to do is to sneak the book out when no one is around. Snape definitely can't remember every book he confiscates."
After Ron finished speaking, Hermione immediately retorted.
"That's not the right thing to do. If you need the book, Harry, you can borrow another one from the library."
"I've been there, but probably because the Quidditch match is about to start, all the copies of the book have been borrowed."
"Tch, alright."
Hearing Harry say this, Hermione didn't have a good solution either.
"I think you can be honest, Harry, and just ask for it directly. Anyway, asking for a book won't get you punished."
Moon's suggestion was met with confused looks from everyone.
"That's Head of Slytherin House, Snape, not the clay figure [Snape]!"
Ron couldn't understand Moon's idea at all.
In his opinion, Snape was the strictest professor at Hogwarts.
