Under one person: If I let you refine your Qi, will you become an immortal?

Chapter 16: Entering into concentration and observing the mind

"Too much?"

After being stunned for a while, Dongshan finally came back to his senses, his expression still looked a little stiff.

He originally thought that Li Muxuan was worried that seventy days was too short and that he would not be able to achieve the goal of 3,500 breaths by the time, but he did not expect that seventy days was actually too many.

Good guy.

This made him not know what to say for a moment.

After all, I have practiced Taoism for so many years.

It's not like he's never seen people who work hard, but this is the first time he's seen someone like Li Muxuan take the initiative.

anyway.

I am afraid this child is not new to cultivation.

Do you think you can really do it?

Immediately, Dongshan said earnestly again: "My child, it is a good thing to work hard."

"But in cultivating the Tao, the most important thing is to recognize yourself. Seventy days are running out. There are 3,500 breaths, and you must practice at least 50 breaths every day. This is not an easy task."

"Is it?"

Li Muxuan glanced at him strangely and said, "But this junior has now condensed eighty breaths of Qi."

"Even if it's eighty."

"Wait, how many? Eighty mouthfuls?"

Dongshan suddenly took a breath of cold air.

One hour and eight quarters of an hour, each quarter of an hour refining a mouthful of nectar, eighty mouthfuls is ten hours.

It has only been about twelve hours since I taught him the foundation-building method yesterday. In between, I have to eat, sleep, and go to class. How can he find so much time to gather his energy?

And even if he doesn't sleep, doesn't eat or drink, he uses all this time.

Didn't he encounter a bottleneck?

It is simple to have no distracting thoughts at once.

But when you are in a busy city, you will inevitably be affected by the environment. How can you enter the state of zazen so easily?

Not to mention, I asked him to answer questions by name many times today. Even if he happened to swallow a mouthful of nectar every time, it would definitely have an impact on his cultivation to some extent.

in this case.

Not to mention that it's impossible for normal people to do it, even with the most powerful weapon there's absolutely no way it can be done!

Thinking of this, Dongshan looked at Li Muxuan, his eyes full of suspicion.

Are you kidding me?

"You said you have condensed eighty breaths of Qi. How did you do that?"

Dongshan asked directly. In view of Li Muxuan's previous performances, he felt that the other party was not a liar, and there was no point in telling such lies.

So he was highly suspicious.

Li Muxuan was stunned whether he was cultivating demons or not.

It is also commonly known as obsession.

You know, this is not uncommon in cultivation.

The more attached a person is to something, the easier it is for him to lose himself and be replaced by delusions.

Recalling that Master Zuo Ruotong had doubted Li Muxuan's sincerity when he sent him here, Dongshan had enough reasons to doubt whether Li Muxuan had overacted and really thought he was some kind of peerless genius, thus being swallowed up by delusions.

At this time, Li Muxuan naturally didn't know what Dongshan was thinking.

I heard the other person ask him how he did it.

He spoke.

"Reporting to you, sir, after you taught the juniors the foundation-building method yesterday."

"Junior was thinking about it when he returned to the room."

"Actually, zazen does not necessarily require sitting."

"The key point is to build a state of mind without distracting thoughts and stick to the original intention. So the juniors try to see whether they can avoid distracting thoughts while walking, standing, sitting and lying down, and condense the nectar in their mouths."

"I didn't expect it to actually succeed."

As the sound rang out, Dongshan's eyes suddenly widened with a look of shock on his face.

He didn't expect that Li Muxuan would have such understanding.

I had been practicing with my master for seven or eight years, and then I gradually understood this truth. At the same time, I also understood how difficult it was to achieve this.

Zazen is not limited to form.

Sounds simple.

But most people's hearts follow their bodies.

The six consciousnesses of eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind affect people's original mind all the time.

It's okay to choose a quiet place, close your eyes and sit still. After all, you can't see, hear, or smell. It's isolated from most external influences, so it's easy to have a clear mind.

But once it starts moving.

All kinds of feelings brought about by the six senses will affect people.

In this state, I want to keep my mind clear of distracting thoughts.

It is not said that it is as difficult as climbing to heaven, but it also requires a long period of upholding the precepts and practice before you can barely achieve it.

But how old is Li Muxuan?

Nine years old!

And he had never practiced before!

It turned out that he had just practiced for one day.

Not only can I understand the principle of informal meditation, but I can actually do it.

This is so outrageous!

But there is one thing to say, if Li Muxuan could really practice diligently while walking, standing, sitting or lying down.

Although it is difficult to breathe eighty breaths for twelve hours, it is still possible, but could it be that he has been practicing all day long and answering questions by himself did not affect him?

Thinking like this.

Without waiting for Dongshan to ask, Li Muxuan continued.

"Speaking of which, thank you sir."

"Just when you called me on stage to answer questions today, I suddenly realized that although there were many distracting thoughts in my mind, my heart was not affected by these thoughts."

"Rather, stand from the perspective of a bystander and watch the birth and death of these thoughts with a state of inaction."

"From this, this junior infers."

"Sitting in meditation and having a clear mind are not the same thing."

“Being free of distracting thoughts is just a process to achieve this state, not the ultimate goal of sitting meditation.

"The essence of sitting meditation is to stick to the original mind and enter the pure and empty place, so that the person's original mind is not affected by the seven emotions of joy, anger, worry, sadness, fear, and the six senses of eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind."

"So, even if you think about it."

"But as long as the original mind is strong and not shaken by external objects, it will still be in a state of tranquility and emptiness."

As he said this, Li Muxuan looked towards Dongshan.

"Sir, is what this junior said correct?"

"Uh this."

At this time, Dongshan's heart could no longer be described as shocked.

He is completely confused now.

Why stick to your original mind and observe your own thoughts in a state of inaction? His master didn't teach him this when he was practicing?

How does he know if it is right?

But soon, after Dongshan calmed down.

He found that Li Muxuan's description was somewhat similar to the Vipassana method in the Taoist mind cultivation method.

Inside, that is, the heart.

Observation means seeing.

To put it simply, it is to enter concentration and observe the mind.

Use the method of entering concentration to observe and eliminate distracting thoughts and delusions in the heart, and calm down to understand the truth and even realize the truth.

However, this is usually something that only great practitioners will do. Ordinary practitioners can be said to have a strong mind if they are not affected by distracting thoughts and delusions in their hearts, let alone being able to observe themselves and eliminate thoughts in time.

Of course, this does not mean that Li Muxuan has reached the realm of a great practitioner now.

It can only be said that his approach is very similar to Vipassana.

But even so.

Li Muxuan's talent is truly evil!

Not only can I gain insight into the essence of zazen, but I can even draw inferences from one example and start to observe my own thoughts.

This is like a baby who is just learning to speak and begins to learn a second language without a teacher, or a child who is just learning to walk and has already begun to challenge hurdles.

Dongshan didn't know whether this was good or bad.

But one thing is for sure.

He is not qualified to teach this child.

"You must quickly write a letter and report this matter to Master!"

Thinking of this, Dongshan looked at Li Muxuan and said in as natural a tone as possible: "Yes, you are right."

"That's it."

"Originally, I planned to teach you this later, but I didn't expect you to understand it on your own."

"But don't be too happy too early. This is just the most basic introductory practice. You still have a long way to go in the future. If there is anything you don't understand or you have any fantastic ideas, you can always ask me. .”

"As for those 3,500 breaths of Qi, you don't have to worry too much about the day."

"Just tell me when you're done."

"Thank you sir."

Li Muxuan saluted Dongshan with clasped fists.

Originally, he thought he had understood the next level, but he didn't expect that he was still stuck at the most basic entry level.

But think about it.

I am just an ordinary person.

Even if you have that little bit of understanding, looking at the whole world, it should still be in the category of sparse and ordinary.

How can you surpass your predecessors so easily?

Fortunately, what he seeks is not to surpass anyone, but to achieve his true self through cultivation. It is gratifying to have outstanding talents, but mediocrity will not affect his continued cultivation.

Thinking like this.

Li Muxuan soon felt relieved, abandoned all the distracting thoughts in his mind, and continued to practice.
