Under the Red Dragon
#234 - Former prison guard
"Giants, halt your advance, or face the wrath of the dragon clans!" roared Kalit, the Blue Dragon, perched atop the city walls. Her wings spread wide, her claws radiating power, her cold, hard voice echoed like thunder, warning the giant kin who were stirring up a storm of dust as they marched forward.
Beside her, Aili, the Green Dragon, landed gracefully, standing shoulder to shoulder with Kalit, baring her fangs and spreading her wings and claws.
"This land is ruled by dragons, the territory of the Golden Empire. Any assault will be considered an act of war against the Empire!"
Kalit's warning did nothing to deter the giants. The one-eyed giant, Asis, revealed his hideous face, his singular eye blazing with a violent, bloodthirsty light.
He dragged a heavy bone hammer along the ground, sending sparks flying as it struck the rocks. Upon seeing the two dragons, Asis grew excited.
"Dragons! Two little dragons! How arrogant and foolish they are, daring to stand before giants! Hahaha! Charge straight through! First, capture those storm giants, then smash this pathetic little city!"
Asis incited the giants around him, "Break this dilapidated city! Capture those two dragons! We can have some fun with them! I've never tasted dragon before!"
"Break the city! Burn, kill, and loot! Devour those little people like sweet treats!" The one-eyed giant raised his bone hammer, pointing it towards the distant city.
"Break the city! Burn, kill, and loot! Devour those little people like sweet treats!" The restless ancient ogre kin were the first to respond to the one-eyed giant lord's bellowing.
These ogre kin were far uglier than those within the Golden Empire, as if their evolution had stagnated over the ages, retaining thick body hair and the crude features of the giant race.
Their skin looked like thick, layered bark, their yellowish-black teeth jutting out like their eyes, cloudy and bloodthirsty.
"Capture those two dragons!" the mountain giant beside the one-eyed giant roared. "I want the green one! She's mine!"
The giants roared in agreement, stomping forward towards the distant city, completely ignoring Kalit's warning.
The one-eyed giant lord, Asis, hearing the mountain giant's words, revealed a hint of dissatisfaction in his single eye. But before his rusty mind could decide whether to fight the mountain giant or what to do, a buzzing vibration suddenly filled the air.
As the giants advanced, they stepped within range of the city's giant crossbows and cannons, immediately facing a barrage of firepower.
The roar of cannons and the piercing shriek of giant crossbow bolts filled the air. The giants and giant kin, trapped in the Forsaken Mountains for countless years, hadn't even grasped what was happening when they saw the tiny creatures launching an attack.
Boom!
A cannonball landed directly in the midst of the ogre horde. The explosion tore apart three ancient ogres, which were at the epicenter. Their flesh, usually resilient against other beasts and monsters, proved fragile against the Empire's heavy artillery.
Limbs and blood mist filled the air as cannonballs rained down. The smaller, more agile ancient ogres were stunned, involuntarily slowing their pace and dodging the falling fire.
Likewise, the trolls, driven by the giants, were quite tall, nearly eight feet. Compared to ordinary humanoid races, these trolls could be considered giants based on their size.
These trolls wielded clubs made of femurs, wooden clubs, and stone clubs. Only a few troll spellcasters, born among them, raised their clubs, invoking shamanistic magic to defend against the cannon fire.
Some trolls fearlessly swung their clubs, trying to smash the incoming cannonballs, but the results were disastrous. Flying limbs and broken bodies were the fate of these brave trolls.
The cannon fire didn't inflict significant damage on the giants. Even the explosive force, the primary source of damage, was useless against them.
Some giants seemed to lack vulnerable organs altogether, their cores firmly protected, impervious to the cannon blasts.
However, the armor-piercing, enchanted Eight Ox Giant Crossbows and Dragon Hunting Crossbows fired bolts large enough to pierce the giants' defenses. Even stone giants, covered in rock, would be pierced through, the bolts embedding deep within their bodies.
Clang!
The one-eyed giant, Asis, swung his bone hammer, knocking aside an incoming giant crossbow bolt. The collision of bolt and hammer produced a clear metallic sound. The immense force sent a strong tremor through Asis's arm.
The mountain giant beside him roared, swinging a huge steel pillar to swat away two crossbow bolts. The bolts, as thick as a man's arm, had crescent-shaped tips.
Upon impact, they chipped a small piece off the steel pillar before being deflected, embedding themselves in the arm of a wood giant.
Several slow-moving stone giants failed to block all the bolts. The bolts pierced their bodies, creating fine, web-like cracks in their sturdy rock armor.
Two stone giants had their heads pierced by the massive bolts, shearing off a large portion of their skulls.
Struck by the assault, the giants' anger flared. Giants excelled at using stones and other hard objects as projectiles, striking aerial enemies like dragons or attacking distant foes.
With their immense strength, even ordinary stones could generate tremendous power.
One by one, the giants picked up stones from the ground, preparing to retaliate. The mountain giant lifted his steel pillar with his left hand, using his right hand to hoist a multi-ton stone, starting a charging run.
Muscles bulged on his massive arm as he raised the stone behind his shoulder, roaring as he hurled the multi-ton rock.
Whoosh!
The multi-ton stone, though not appearing large, carried force more terrifying than a siege hammer. Launched by the mountain giant, it was comparable to a giant stone cannon. If it struck the city walls directly, even if it didn't collapse them, the soldiers on the walls would suffer.
Thunderous explosions and the roar of magic cannons fired simultaneously, a dazzling light erupting before the giants.
An axe, crackling with azure lightning, struck the boulder hurled by the mountain giant head-on. The axe shattered instantly, but the subsequent lightning blast shattered the boulder into fragments, sending countless shards flying.
A massive magic cannon blast pierced through the dust cloud unimpeded, striking the mountain giant who had been pounding his chest in excitement, blasting a gruesome wound through his thick right arm.
"Roar!"
The towering mountain giant roared in pain. A hole had been blasted through his thick arm, the intense magic energy instantly vaporizing the flesh around the wound, even melting the surrounding muscles into crystal.
The sudden attack caused the imposing giants to hesitate momentarily, halting alongside the one-eyed giant, Asis.
Kalit, the Blue Dragon, standing on the city walls, looked towards Garcia, the Storm Giant, who returned her gaze, nodding slightly. The Storm Giants and Bay Stream City had tentatively formed an alliance.
"This is a warning," Kalit announced, standing tall on the city walls, looking down at the giants in the distance.
"Retreat if you don't want war with the Empire, giants. The Empire's authority is not to be trifled with. Next time, it will be the beginning of war between giants and the Empire. I think you should consider this action carefully."
"I've never heard of any Empire, any Dragon Kingdom," the one-eyed giant, Asis, sneered. "We can retreat, but you must return the storm giants and what they hold to me."
"It is something that Moghese must have. If you become enemies with us giants for these storm giants, it will be a price you cannot afford."
The one-eyed giant, Asis, tapped his palm with his massive bone hammer, his tone filled with disdain, mocking, "Besides, do you think you two little dragons and some insignificant tools can stop Asis?"
"If the dragon clan is full of trash like you, I don't mind killing you all, then hanging you on my club, roasting you over a fire, and tasting the flavor of you reptiles."
Aili, the Green Dragon, sneered, about to speak, when a deadly threat suddenly descended from the sky above the two female dragons, causing the scales on their backs to tighten at the same moment. They looked up.
The clouds in the sky seemed to be instantly dyed black by some magical force, and the rolling stench had solidified into substance, rapidly spreading and enveloping the two female dragons under the control of some being.
The claws and wings occasionally revealed by the figure swimming and flying in the clouds revealed the identity of this being.
"Dragon!"
The two female dragons exclaimed in unison, trying to fly back.
In this fleeting glimpse, the two female dragons had discovered the terrifying figure hidden in the clouds.
It was a multi-headed dragon, an ugly, winged monster that combined the worst features of dragons and hydras.
Mud-brown scales, yellow wings, and a cream-colored underbelly, three heads and three main tails, and six secondary tails growing from the main tails, three pairs of dark red eyes, like dried blood, revealed terrifying hatred and killing intent.
The multi-headed dragon in the sky did not stop the two female dragons' actions, but stared at them with fierce eyes, revealing a dragon-like grin.
"Eternal Punishment Domain, Magic Prison," a cold voice echoed in the ears of the two female dragons. Their retreating bodies were confined by an invisible, tangible force, and the magical shackles separated the two dragons' spaces, making it difficult for them to perceive each other.
The dark clouds in the sky also plunged down rapidly at this time, turning the invisible domain into a tangible prison.
An even more terrifying dragon appeared from the clouds, its face, naturally cold and difficult to read, displaying a bone-chilling expression like a sneer.
Its emaciated figure, with withered flesh clinging tightly to its skin and scales, resembled the body of a black dragon. Its tattered wings still allowed this terrifying dragon to fly nimbly through the air.
Its pitch-black eyes flickered with an eerie green light, and the black, gray, and olive-green scales formed a twisted striped pattern. The moment it emerged from the clouds, it caused even Kalit, the Blue Dragon, to falter, as if under some mind-altering spell.
Kalit, the Blue Dragon, lost the initiative in this brief moment of distraction.
The terrifying dragon extended its dragon head from the clouds, grinning hideously and opening its mouth full of fangs, and a disintegration field with terrifying power shot down like a straight beam.
The intense threat caused Kalit, the Blue Dragon, to squeeze out the evil dragon's true blood in her body at all costs. A powerful force surged through her body, bursting out of her blood vessels, causing them to rupture.
A dazzling lightning breath was spewed out by Kalit, the Blue Dragon. The dazzling electric light illuminated the black and gray Eternal Punishment Domain, colliding with the terrifying disintegration field breath.
But Kalit's lightning breath did not achieve the desired effect. The lightning breath did not seem to display any power at all, and was split in half by the attacking disintegration field breath.
The blazing lightning was broken through like tofu by the disintegration field breath. Then the power of the disintegration field directly shattered Kalit's dragon scales, blasting a deep hole through the Blue Dragon Kalit's right claw in her front paw, which was blocking her chest and abdomen, and gurgling dragon blood gushed out.
But Kalit, the Blue Dragon, could not even utter a cry of pain. The attack of the multi-headed dragon in the sky also descended at this moment.
Three slender necks stretched out from the black clouds, their blood-colored pupils full of cruelty and irritability. The three hideous heads launched their attacks at the same time. The dragon's bite, under those sharp and thick fangs, seemed extremely deadly.
Kalit, the Blue Dragon, only had time to block her slender neck with her wings, and the next moment, intense pain came.
The three heads of the multi-headed dragon opened their sharp mouths, bit Kalit's wings, and shook them wildly, actually tearing Kalit's wings directly from her body.
"Roar!"
The dragon blood of Kalit, the Blue Dragon, had already gone mad, and the surging thunder was boiling in her body. She could not fight the two dragons in this imprisoned space, and the only way to survive now was to break the blockade of this domain.
So she roared, releasing all the magic power in her body at this moment. A ball of lightning condensed from her mouth, and the intense electric light flickered, slowly crashing towards the dragon that was tearing at her.
The dragon, whose expression seemed to be mocking at all times, still chose to retreat. Even if he was much stronger than Kalit, the Blue Dragon, he did not want to directly resist Kalit's full blow.
The lightning orb crashed directly into the boundary of the tangible prison. The violent roar was like dozens of heavy cannons exploding simultaneously. Dazzling electric current instantly bloomed into a blinding light. The surging power shook the Eternal Punishment Domain, and even the Blue Dragon Kalit was shaken back several steps by the aftershock.
However, the swaying Eternal Punishment Domain finally calmed down and returned to its original state.
"Blue-scaled dragon, peacefully welcome your death."
That terrifying dragon climbed down from mid-air, from the top of the domain. The mocking expression at this moment prevented the Blue Dragon Kalit from feeling anger. A feeling of despair spread through the Blue Dragon Kalit's heart at this moment.
"Although killing you is not my original wish, hunting a dragon can bring me some insignificant satisfaction."
Crack, crack.
As soon as the terrifying dragon finished speaking, the edge of the entire dim domain seemed to be forcibly broken by some kind of power. The rippling undulations began to shatter, revealing the outside scenery.
"What arrogant words. You are a dragon, yet you associate with giants and become their lackey. You are truly a disgrace to the dragon race." The Blue Dragon Akz and the White Dragon Gemott brandished their claws in mid-air, standing proudly in the air.
