Under the Red Dragon
#53 - Only legends can face legends
Perhaps because the White Tower was not built very tall, it was deliberately widened quite a bit. Maybe the mage also released some spells related to folding space within the White Tower. After Caron's eight-meter-tall body entered the White Tower, there was actually a sense of emptiness.
And behind the magnificent screen in this empty reception hall, there must be an even wider space. Caron didn't understand space magic, but this was his intuition as a true dragon.
Under the guidance of a servant golem, Caron ascended the wide, winding staircase. The staircase was covered with mysterious and profound magic runes. Under Caron's gaze, each magic rune seemed to contain a unique meaning and power.
At the entrance of each floor of the staircase, there would be magic guards in full armor guarding it. The iron armor covering their entire bodies and the cold, gleaming long swords revealed a wave of magical energy. These were excellent magic weapons.
And the magic guards' pair of red, ghostly eyes were revealed from within the iron helmet that completely covered their heads, tightly locking onto Caron's figure. Only the golem's guidance allowed them to stay obediently in place, loyally guarding the upward passage.
Caron followed the golem and didn't know how many steps he had taken. In his impression, it was far more than six floors. Just when he thought the upward steps seemed endless, the golem servant leading the way finally stopped in front of a white door.
Two maid-dressed golems bowed to Caron, "Honorable guest, the master is inside waiting for your visit. Please come in."
Although Caron felt a little apprehensive, the methods displayed by this mysterious archmage in this White Tower completely conformed to his stereotypes of those powerful mages, but fortunately, from the servant's attitude, he could see some of the archmage's attitude.
So the red dragon pushed open the door and stepped inside.
To the red dragon's surprise, this floor of the White Tower was just a simple space, like a slightly larger attic. It seemed to be a place for the White Tower's master to occasionally relax. There was simply a recliner and a small table covered with a beautiful tablecloth in front of the wide French window.
The cup on the table was emitting heat, and an old mage with white hair and a light robe was leisurely gazing out of the French window in a daze.
Hearing the red dragon's footsteps, the white-haired old mage turned his head and said with a smile, "You've come. Sit wherever you like." The magical light flowed in the mage's hand, shattering the magic ring that imprisoned the red dragon.
This mage didn't seem to have any fear of the dragon's approach, and the way he squinted his eyes when he smiled made Caron feel very familiar. The red dragon probably knew where the squinting-eye mage Huesol got his habit of squinting his eyes and smiling every time he spoke.
Caron didn't have any unrealistic ideas about causing trouble in the magic tower of a Saint-level archmage. Well, even among the five-colored dragon species, only white dragons would do such a thing.
The red dragon walked over and obediently sat next to the mage, looking out of the French window. In the distance, the brightly lit, tall, and majestic imperial palace appeared before his eyes.
"Look, how tall the imperial palace of this empire's emperor is. The buildings in the entire city cannot exceed the emperor's palace," the smiling old mage said, pointing at the imperial palace.
"In fact, your purpose is obvious to anyone with eyes, but those nobles don't dare to make any moves now, because this is the path chosen by this emperor."
"Before this emperor fails, these timid and greedy nobles will bury their heads in the ground, hoping that the emperor will not notice them."
Caron knew that the words spoken by the mage in front of him were not just casual chat, so he asked suspiciously, "The path chosen? What path?"
"Do you know what is the most important thing to become a mage?" the white-haired old mage suddenly changed the topic and asked.
"Mental strength? Or magical element talent?" Caron was a little confused. He hated this kind of riddle-solving approach, but unfortunately, his fist was not bigger than the other party's. Well, not a physical fist.
The white-haired mage shook his head, "Wrong. The most important thing to become a mage is the vision of the real world and your way of thinking."
"Everyone observes the world differently. What they see and hear is not the real world, but the projection of the world in your consciousness through your perception. Therefore, most people, including mages, have a great error in their understanding of the real world."
"The more powerful the mage, the deeper their understanding of the real world. Or, conversely, the deeper the understanding of the real world, the more powerful the mage."
Caron cherished these rare and valuable knowledge, after all, dragons had no inheritance knowledge in this area, and they could only rely on the blood of the dragon to be at the top of the biological food chain.
Although he didn't know why the mage would impart these valuable knowledge to him, he pricked up his ears and tried to digest the mage's words.
"And this is also the most important point to step into the legendary," the old mage didn't seem to care how amazing his words were. He raised his right hand and asked the red dragon, "Do you say this is the right hand or the left hand."
Caron knew that the mage's question was definitely not that simple, but he thought for a while and still couldn't figure it out, so he could only hesitantly answer, "Ri-right hand, right?"
The old mage smiled so hard that his eyes were almost completely squinted, revealing only a slit. He picked up the cup on the table, took a sip, moistened his throat, coughed, and then opened his mouth, "Legend says it's the right hand, then it's the right hand. Legend says it's the left hand, then it's the left hand."
Huh? Caron's pair of dragon eyes suddenly widened, "Could it be that the legendary can tamper with other people's cognition?"
"Yes and no," the old mage didn't play any tricks with Caron this time. His expression became serious,
"Every orthodox legendary must build a complete world cognition and understanding of their own based on the real world, and these cognitions and understandings will also become the unique abilities of each legendary."
"But every orthodox legendary has a basic common point, that is, they can use their own understanding of the real world to cover other people's cognition, that is to say, if you are not a legendary, then what you face is a creator."
"Even the gold dragon, the strongest of the dragons, can have the ability to contend with the legendary when they reach adulthood."
"But when facing a legendary mage, even if this mage can't kill the dragon, he can easily trap the dragon, and even the legendary mage can take the time to do an interesting experiment in other planes."
"This is also why only when you reach the legendary can you be qualified to step out of the main plane and enter the astral world and the void to travel and adventure. There is no conventional definition of up, down, left, right, and object concepts in the astral world and the void."
"Even many places are a chaos. Only by constructing your own complete and unique understanding of the world can you not be trapped in these places."
The old mage warned Caron with a serious face, "Remember to run as far as you can if you encounter other legendaries before you reach the legendary. Only the legendary can face the legendary!"
Um, speeding up the pace, finish this plot as soon as possible.
