Under the Red Dragon
#55 - Undercurrent
In a spacious room, people filled the long table, but upon closer inspection, although lifelike, their expressions were somewhat stiff and unnatural.
The wisps of red light emanating from their eyes proved that these were not normal people, but various types of magically controlled puppets.
These puppets varied in style, but all sat neatly at the table like normal people, a silent atmosphere enveloping the entire room.
After a long silence, an aged puppet finally spoke, "Are you saying that we need to do our best to help this supreme Emperor, to encourage him to launch the war ahead of schedule?"
"But in doing so, we will inevitably expend a lot of resources, and this Emperor will certainly not let us develop our strength in peace. When the time comes, many members of our families will go to the front lines, which will result in a great loss of power."
"Hehe, do you think our families can avoid this if we drag it out?" a fox-faced puppet made a strange sound, "Or would you rather be a Duke than own a Duchy?"
The aged puppet shook his head in rebuttal, "I am just an ordinary noble, not a Duke at all. Don't slander others casually."
The most lifelike puppet sitting at the head of the table spoke, "Alright, there's no need to argue about these things. Everyone here is a big figure in the Empire. What are your opinions?" Its gaze swept over the many silent puppets, awaiting their answers.
"Who would be willing to follow an Emperor destined to fail?" someone chuckled softly from the crowd.
"We can do this," a tall puppet slammed the table and stood up. It scanned the eyes of the other puppets.
"When the time comes, everyone here can have their own Duchies and Kingdoms, instead of accompanying this Emperor into hell. His goals are too ambitious. I don't want to be his divine servant. I haven't enjoyed this wonderful world enough."
"Divine servant? Do you think he can reach that stage, hahaha," one of the puppets mocked.
The entire room was immediately filled with a pleasant atmosphere, and many puppets echoed in agreement.
"Then let's do it this way," the puppet sitting at the head of the table said, summarizing the situation.
"If it's difficult for you to win the war, it must be easy for you to lose, right? Besides, we are not plotting anything against His Majesty the Emperor. We are doing our best to help our supreme Emperor."
"Hehe," all the puppets present laughed immediately, their slightly stiff laughter echoing in the spacious room, gradually fading away.
A mysterious magical wave appeared in the room, and all the magical puppets suddenly turned into stardust, scattered on the floor of the room. A breeze blew, and the stardust was stirred by the wind, drifting out of the quietly opened window, as if they had never appeared in this room.
········
Karon lay on the ground, feigning sleep. There wasn't much room to move around here, and he was too lazy to move.
In recent days, he had been thinking about what the old mage Lapps had said, about the general direction of stepping into the legendary realm, which gave him some vague ideas about his future path.
If he could move in the right direction now, then Karon would have a greater advantage than others. The more solid the foundation, the better.
It must be said that no matter what you do, having a powerful helper is extremely important.
Just the information revealed by the old mage Lapps was knowledge that no treasure in the world could buy. Even if Karon and the dragons were sold, it might not be enough to exchange for the old mage's simple words last night.
This kind of key knowledge is only mastered by those orthodox legendary practitioners, and every legendary who breaks through using this method is particularly powerful. No one lacks wealth; the wealth of mortals may just be entertainment for them.
Only a series mage like the old mage Lapps, who comes from an orthodox background, can master this kind of knowledge, which is equivalent to the fundamental inheritance of a sect.
Karon didn't expect to be treated like this by the mage. He had even prepared to lie dormant for a long time, but fortunately, the result was satisfactory to the dragon.
Maybe this is the favor he received that was different from ordinary dragons.
Knock, knock, knock, the iron door cast in refined steel made a knocking sound. Karon knew who was coming by listening to the rhythm of the knocking.
He impatiently opened his eyes and spat out a few sparks from his nostrils, somewhat irritably, "Sussell, why are you here again? Do you have too much free time!"
Sussell had a smile on his face. Mages liked to see the red dragon irritable, as it seemed more real. "The matter is settled. Oh, right, actually, I came this time just to bring you this."
The mage handed a thick book to the red dragon. The red dragon looked over, and the hardcover pages had a few common words written on them - Three Hundred and Sixty Techniques for Mastering Magical Elements.
Whoosh, two thick sparks spewed out of Karon's nostrils. He said in a muffled voice, "I am a red dragon, I prefer to destroy my enemies with my own body and strength."
Despite what he said, Karon obediently took the book. Having more knowledge in reserve was not a bad thing. The more he understood, the more it would help him to come into contact with the real world.
"Remember to finish reading this book as soon as possible. I have placed a magical spell on it. If you exceed the time limit, this book will shatter into ashes with a 'pop'."
Sussell's smiling eyes were exactly the same as the old mage Lapps, but the impression they gave was different. The young mage in front of him had a feeling of hiding a knife behind his smile, at least that's what the red dragon thought.
"I will be very busy in the coming time and probably won't have time to see you, Karon," Sussell paused deliberately, waiting for the red dragon's reaction.
Karon was overjoyed, and his irritable mood improved, "That's good. You are a noble mage and shouldn't always come to this dirty arena."
"Hehe," Sussell showed a look of 'I knew it' on his face. He said slowly, "But you don't have to worry about your learning progress. I will have my servant puppets bring over the books you need to study."
"Well, I also have several boxes of notes left over from when I was an apprentice mage at home, and I will have my servants bring them over to you as well."
Karon's expression changed immediately upon hearing this. Although he deliberately used the sub-brain cluster to record the knowledge from these books into his sub-brain, which could be used as a database at any time.
But magical knowledge needs to be experienced and understood thoroughly. If Karon himself cannot understand this knowledge, then his sub-brain is just like a library.
But recently, a lot of information about magical knowledge has been recorded in the sub-brain. Every day, Karon has to spend a lot of time studying and pondering. At this moment, his mind is full of those obscure and difficult magical runes intertwined together.
But he cannot and will not refuse this opportunity. Even if this knowledge is crammed in, he must cram it into his mind.
He was still used to being a lazy dragon before, but it's just studying. So the red dragon sighed, "Okay, I will work hard!"
