Chapter 120: The Violin Case Left on the Cliff
Taking out an old tape, Abu put it into the player in the car. After a brief noise, exotic pop music appeared in the car.
He took a few bites of biscuits and sipped cold water, repeating the process over and over until he was about half full, then sealed the biscuits.
During this process, Abu kept looking at the mountain road, waiting for the mysterious female customer to come back.
A full seven hours have passed since the female customer left. The agreed three-hour period has long passed. Abu's intuition tells him that the woman will not come back. Anyway, he has already received the money for this trip, so he can drive away.
.
But he's still waiting.
Abu tapped the steering wheel lightly with his left hand, and held a yellowed old book in his right hand, slowly reading page by page. After waiting for another hour, he slammed the book shut, grabbed the passenger's travel bag, and took inventory.
Check out the essentials inside:
First aid medicine, food, purified water and a .45 caliber pistol.
After confirming that it was correct, he jumped out of the car and headed into the mountains to find the female customer.
Abu gave himself four hours. Regardless of whether he could find a female customer, he had to go down the mountain and rush back to the city before dark.
This place is no man's land, but that doesn't mean there is really no one there.
The real meaning of no man's land is that there are no normal ordinary people. Those robbers, bandits, and desperadoes like this kind of place. If they encounter it, just a pistol may not be able to solve the problem.
The female customer was very mysterious, and Abu didn't care about that.
The more secrets the customer has, the more powerful he is, so he doesn’t have to worry.
What Abu is most afraid of is the kind of people who, even though they know nothing, still insist on pretending to be mysterious and go to such dangerous places to experience an adventurous life.
When I chatted with Zhang Ming before, he gave this kind of people a nickname: "Fake literary youth seeking death."
“They like to travel on a budget, have adventures, take photos, copy chicken soup for the soul, and finally tweet.”
Zhang Ming pointed to his head, "Most of them suffered a loss, and only a few lucky ones did not encounter any danger. But because of the survivor bias, many brainless people think that the whole world is the lucky one.
Without considering the danger, I jumped into the fire pit one after another."
Abu jumped over a small river and recalled what Zhang Ming said about the characteristics of fake literary youth:
Write two limericks and say that you are a poet;
If you can play guitar with two hands, you can say that you play music;
Holding a camera and only taking pictures of women, he said he was into photography.
He thought that the female customer was holding a violin case, which might meet the second rule.
After all, Abu is a tour guide. Although the customer has settled the payment, he cannot just ignore the customer's life or death. He has a bad conscience.
The midday sun shone piercingly on Abu, and he unbuttoned the top button of his coat.
The road condition was better than he expected. Except for some dark places on the mountain that were not exposed to light all year round, where a thin layer of snow could be seen, other places were very clean. This way he could trace some traces.
"The path forward is clear and the steps are steady."
Based on the traces left by the female customer, Abu quickly concluded that she was a woman who had been trained, had excellent physical fitness, and had a clear goal.
Such people don't need him to worry.
Abu's previously worried heart was finally relieved.
He looked at the time and saw that it was 14:26. It had been more than two hours since Abu came out. He looked up and saw that he was about to reach the top of the mountain. If he still couldn't find the female customer at the top of the mountain, he planned to return and end the work.
.
After simply replenishing his water, he continued moving forward and reached the top of the mountain about forty minutes later.
As expected, there was no one.
Suddenly, Abu's eyes froze on the edge of the cliff!
On one side of this barren mountain is a relatively gentle slope, which is the direction in which Abu climbed up, and on the other side is a nearly vertical cliff. And right on the edge of the cliff, the violin case that the female customer carried when she got out of the car was lying quietly.
There.
Abu quickly ran over, stood on the edge of the cliff, and looked down.
He looked through the bare tree branches and saw no body, and he breathed a sigh of relief.
But where can she go?
There is only one road up the mountain. Abu followed the female customer's footsteps up the mountain. He did not find the footprints going down the mountain.
Hiding?
Who are you hiding from? She has already paid, so what is there to hide from?
Abu stared at the violin case, and why did she keep this thing?
Yesterday, I received a female customer at the edge of the border. She kept carrying this box and never let go whether she was eating, sleeping or going to the bathroom. It was obvious that this thing was very important to her.
Too many questions troubled Abu. He took out his mobile phone, checked the payment status again, and decided to call it a day. As for the violin case...
Abu brought it up and planned to hand it over to the middleman who introduced the job. If the middleman could still contact the female customer, he would let him return it.
However, as soon as Abu held the handle of the box with his left hand, his wrist suddenly felt a pain.
Originally an ordinary, long box, a pair of ring-shaped handcuffs popped out from the handle, tightly strangling his wrists. There were fine barbs on the handcuffs that penetrated deeply into his flesh.
"What's this!"
Abu gritted his teeth, half-knelt on the ground, picked up rocks on the ground, and smashed them on the handcuffs.
But it was useless, not even a scratch was left.
"Hey!" He shouted around, "I know you are here, come out quickly, I don't want to cause trouble, take the box away, and our commission ends!"
Abu shouted several times in succession. It was quiet on the top of the mountain. A cold wind blew by, and the blood flowing from his wrist became cold.
Cursing something in his hometown in a low voice, Abu took off his scarf and put it on his wrist, trying to avoid being scratched by barbs again. After doing this, he hurried down the mountain.
After returning to the car, the signal on his phone finally recovered. He took a photo of his wrist and the box and sent it to the middleman who introduced the customer.
Soon, the middleman's call came back.
"What's going on with this woman!" Abu asked.
"I don't know, she won't say anything. If she didn't give her a lot of money, I wouldn't be able to recommend her to you."
Abu sighed, "Okay, I get it, I'm unlucky this time."
"Where are you now?"
"In no man's land, wait until we return to Shalan City and find someone to remove the thing from your wrist... Why does your voice sound a little weird?"
The middleman laughed awkwardly, "I've been having a cold lately."
After the call ended, the intermediary put down the phone. There were wounds all over his body, his eyes were blue, his lips were bleeding, and there were several teeth on the ground.
He was huddled in the corner of the office. Opposite him, a dozen mercenaries were staring at him coldly.
"Where?" asked the mercenary leader sitting in the middle. He was wearing a windbreaker and spinning a thin dart in his hand.
"He, he is going to Shalan." The middleman replied tremblingly.
"I'm asking about the box!"
"The box will also go with him! Look, here is the photo, the box is tied to his hand!"
The mercenary leader nodded, stood up, and led his subordinates out of the office.
After everyone left, the middleman suddenly got up, grabbed his cell phone, and quickly called Abu to tell him to run away.
"Dudu"
Pick it up quickly, idiot, pick it up quickly!
Finally, the call was connected, and the middleman quickly shouted into the phone, "Abu, I"
boom!
The explosion mixed with flames engulfed the middleman's office!
The mercenary leader who had just arrived on the first floor threw away the detonator, and bang, a charred mobile phone flew out of the office window and landed at his feet.
Trampled to pieces.
