Warhammer 40k: Shattered Steel Soul

Chapter 352: Private Dantioch hasn’t been rescued yet

Under the cover of Dantioch and Sergeant Zoran, one of the last few Iron Warriors to evacuate, Squad Leader Cantara witnessed the accidental fall of his superior. The sudden electromagnetic pulse also destroyed all the communication equipment in his squad, and the positioning system and distress signals could not be sent out.

"Leave the communication blind spot, go to the nearest base station, and restore communication." Cantara made a quick decision and shouted to the five people in the team through the helmet, and memorized the process and location of the battalion commander's fall in his mind, waiting to report to the rescue team later.

He believed that the moment the communication was cut off here, the great mind of Iron Lord Perturabo must have taken the disappearance of Barabas Dantioch into consideration.

A series of sparse explosions sounded again in the distance, scattered and echoing in the mountains and ruins, making it difficult to identify. Then there was a clear sound of the automatic cannon used by the Iron Warriors, and the roar of fragmentation grenades.

"Team 10," an Iron Warrior shouted the number of the formation. "One hundred and seventy degrees."

Cantra weighed the pros and cons and made a decision: "Continue to the base station."

The team headed for the planetary and orbital mobile communication base stations previously set up by the Iron Warriors on the high ground at the top of the mountain, following the theoretical blind spot of the Hrud's reconnaissance.

Before the communication equipment had problems, the large amount of information index directly calculated by the field command in the rear included the risk prediction of conflict outbreaks in different regions. These data still exist in Cantra's brain.

The sound of guns and explosions continued to roar, and soon after, the rhythmic artillery fire of the Iron Warriors gradually overwhelmed the chaotic and unorganized nameless artillery of the Hrud.

After a few minutes, the first sound to disappear was the sound of the Hrud's weapons.

No one in Cantra's team made any expression, but Cantra knew that they were all relieved.

After about three kilometers of travel, regrettably but not unexpectedly, the entropy detection instrument began to fluctuate. A complete team of Hrud passed through a stone tunnel through the mountain and entered the river valley, appearing on their route.

After seeing that the dirty creatures with steam coming out of their bodies did not discover them, but just wandered here casually from the west of the valley and found a place to set up camp, and even, in a sense - after being lazy in the war, Cantara regretted that the reconnaissance team was not equipped with rockets.

He checked the remaining ammunition base with the team members in a hidden place. Then, Cantara had to start thinking, if after the communication was restored, this loose temporary base of about hundreds of alien Hruds was especially here, he should ask the troops for a few missile launchers according to the coordinates of this place.

After all, the behavior of this group of Hruds parking all the vehicles in a row, and even sandwiching two energy supply vehicles in it, was too tempting for missiles.

He made some gestures and was about to take his temporary team of only six people away, when suddenly, he found some abnormal tremors in the vegetation near the Hruds.

What is that?

Suddenly, a loud noise exploded on the side of the Hrud camp, caused by the sudden explosion of a handheld lightning cannon.

This caused a commotion among the aliens in the camp, but considering that this was not an absolutely rare phenomenon among them, the camp finally returned to a noisy and stable calm.

But Cantra's war experience was sending him a serious alarm, and he ordered the team members to be alert.

The second round of chaos soon came. The series of vehicles and energy vehicles that made Cantra covet exploded in succession almost in an instant, and dark green energy stones and metal fragments flew everywhere, further destroying each other in a chain.

A large number of Hruds shrouded in thick fog poured out of the nest-like camp, some of the aliens pounced on their combat tools, while other creatures retreated, and the sour smell came to their faces along the wind.

"Calm down, cousin," a hoarse voice suddenly approached him, with an indescribable coldness. "The Eighth Legion..."

Then, the warrior appeared quietly in front of him.

For a Space Marine wearing power armor, his silent stealth was almost an impossible miracle, so much so that Cantra almost used the fighting skills he learned in the training room on the opponent, even though he only had a power fist in his hand, and the bolt weapons in the hands of Cantra's team members were also aimed at the warrior wearing midnight blue power armor.

The white skull decoration on the face of the Eighth Legion soldier looked at them calmly.

"We originally wanted to access your communication channel," he explained, "but this attempt failed."

Cantra looked at the sergeant who suddenly appeared, thinking of the last message that Commander Dantioch had made public in the channel. After a brief confrontation, he silently ordered his team members to put down their guns.

"Please help me contact the war zone warsmith Hako, I want to report the situation of the 11th Battalion Commander." Cantra said.

While they were communicating, several black things fell from the sky and hit Hrud, and black transparent crystal fragments exploded all over the ground, like clams smashed on the beach by birds.

After the crystal protective layer disintegrated, the scattered bodies of the Hrud were exposed to the air, and the twisted and tiny elastic limbs began to inactivate, quickly emitting a large amount of thick smoke and undergoing the decomposition phenomenon familiar to the Iron Warriors. This is also why it is difficult for them to capture prisoners or bring back corpses.

The Hrud in the camp began to instinctively retreat to the other side of the conflict. The tunnel they came from had not yet closed, and the Hrud crowded into that tunnel, leaving the burning and dangerous weapons behind, causing chaos.

"You did it?" Cantara asked affirmatively.

"Not quite, cousin," the warrior said, "Since my lord is not sure how many years the Hrud can advance time, he prioritizes mobilizing the subhuman auxiliary army to complete close combat tasks."

As the Hrud retreated to the tunnel, the consequences of the explosion ignited a dark green and golden red fire in the mountains, illuminating the dry river and valley with ghost lights. Some kind of rifles carried by the Eighth Legion auxiliary army kept firing crackling sounds, and a large number of Hrud died in the process of fleeing in panic.

Cantara looked away, "Do you need firepower?"

"You can have it, or not." The soldier said, "I suggest not, because you might kill some auxiliary soldiers."

Looking in the direction of the soldier's white skull mask, Cantara finally identified the faintly visible wandering shadows among the chaotic group of Hruds. Their concealment is too strong, and without training and cooperation, it is indeed easy to be injured by mistake.

"Are you going to the base station?" The night ghost warrior asked. More blue-armored people appeared behind him at some point, and the daytime was set off by a sense of mystery at midnight.

"Yes, I hope to go with you." Cantara said directly. Like most iron warriors, he didn't like to beat around the bush.

"I heard there will be a group of new cousins there," the soldier said. If it weren't for the purpose of making each other hear each other through the helmet in the war zone, this would probably be a faint whisper in the communication channel.

Five minutes later, some tiny dots began to appear in the sky. After some interception and escort in the air, several golden-red transport planes spread their steel wings and landed high in the mountains.
