Chapter 100 020100: Wish you peace
Chapter 100 02.0100: ‘Peace’
The day before St. Gilles’s Day, Peace Day.
Horatio sat in the Roman-style music stand screening room of the academy. Because he had to lead the team on alert tomorrow, Brigadier General Edward and Major General Hood gave him a whole day off to rest.
He had a good sleep and was now watching a military propaganda film jointly produced by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Military Affairs. His pupils changed color with the light beam.
A fluttering Imperial Eagle flag gradually appeared on the screen, and then the words ‘This is an epic that praises the outstanding achievements of the 31st Cadian Regiment of the Imperial Guard, supervised by the Imperial Ministry of Military Affairs, and the warriors in the film have all returned to the Golden Throne’ appeared.
When this line of words disappeared, it was replaced by a huge movie title - "Standing Firm to the Death".
"Hey, Horatio." Louise sat beside him. As Horatio's deputy, she had been accompanying him in and out during this period.
"Good evening, Louise." Horatio leaned back on the soft sofa and greeted with a smile.
The beginning of the movie tells the story of the conflict and running-in of a group of Cadian recruits who were trained at the same time. These recruits, called White Shields, still had immature faces.
"You have served in it before."
"Yes."
Louise stared at it, and her purple eyes flashed with light: "Everyone in Cadia is a soldier. I learned a lot in it."
The protagonist of the movie gradually grew up and met and fell in love with a girl who grew up with him. Everything in Cadia is tied to war, even love is tied to comradeship.
Then, the screen turned.
The White Shield Youth Corps where the protagonist of the film is located has completed its combat readiness reorganization, and he has been promoted to non-commissioned officer for his outstanding performance. Soon, the regiment was transferred to a nearby planet that was under attack by the Chaos Rebels as a reinforcement for the 31st Cadian Regiment of the Imperial Guard.
On the last night before leaving, the protagonist and the girl who was gradually falling in love kissed each other while looking at the ominous eyes of fear, and they seemed to realize what this deployment represented.
But in the face of responsibility, love is not worth mentioning.
The 31st Cadian Regiment was asked to hold a high ground. The regiment commissar shouted the slogan "Hold the position and never retreat", and soon he died in a brutal hand-to-hand fight.
The protagonist's friends fell one after another, and his lover fell to the ground with serious injuries, and died together with the enemy who rushed up to take the regiment flag from her.
Louise suddenly sat up straight, and Horatio glanced at her beside her. Her eyes were full of yearning and a touch of sadness that belonged to Cadia.
Even the protagonist's former mortal enemy asked him to live and hold the position before he died.
Until the dawn of the next day, when the new reinforcements arrived, the protagonist of the film knelt on the ground, his body was cold, but the 31st regiment flag in his hand was still flying above the position.
The loyal double-headed eagle still stands...
With the silent handover, the 31st Cadian Regiment completed its mission and the movie ended.
Looking at the end of the film, a long paragraph appeared, with the names and eulogies of the victims in this battle. Horatio exhaled with emotion.
He knew that the sacrifice rate of the Guards soldiers was extremely high, and the Empire would definitely remember them.
"Sacrifice is the cornerstone of the human empire." Louise said calmly.
"I thought you would be very moved." Horatio said half-jokingly.
Even if the movie was very touching, Louise didn't seem to cry because of the sentimentality.
"Such stories happen every day in Cadia, and the tears of Cadians all dried up at the moment they were born and cried." Louise smiled and used a motto from her home planet as an answer.
"Would you like to have a drink together for the rest of the time?" Horatio invited.
"I'm happy to accompany you, but I have a mission tomorrow, so I can't stay for more." Louise turned her head to look at Horatio and smiled quietly.
"Of course."
--
Outside the warm restaurant and bar of the Naval Academy, a little snow fell, which was very artistic.
The young Chief Petty Officer of the Imperial Navy admired the drifting, falling, and melting snowflakes. Next to him sat a mature and tall female Petty Officer wearing black long military boots.
At first, the company of such a beautiful lady aroused the jealousy of some people, but their eyes were attracted by the Chief Petty Officer badge emitting a cold light on the collar. Some students recognized him and excitedly asked Horatio for an autograph as if they had seen a star.
Not only because this descendant of Speyer was the youngest Chief Petty Officer in the history of the Gothic Fleet.
Everyone in the students had heard of his feats, not limited to killing Chaos Space Marines single-handedly, saving a cruiser for the Imperial Navy, being commended and recognized by the Blood Angels, commanding a patrol ship 1 vs 5 and winning a void battle, leading the Hell Vanguard to rescue the hostages of the opera house within 20 minutes, and thwarting the terrorist attack.
But Horatio didn't want to spend the whole rest time of the night signing for the students, especially after signing thirteen...
"Sorry, we need some private time now, next time." Horatio smiled and declined the 14th student waiting in line, and it can be seen that she was very frustrated.
"You are really busy at all times." Louise smiled and put the glass filled with Amaze brown wine to her lips.
"Sorry."
Horatio looked at her palm with burn scars and talked about the purpose of this invitation: "Speaking of which, what's the matter with your palm."
"A rescue eight years ago. That day was like hell. The wreckage of the shuttle turned into fire rain from the sky."
Louise looked at the burn scar on her palm and recalled: "I went to the nearest shuttle. There was a boy with blood all over his face still alive. I didn't think much at the time, so I grabbed the iron rod and tried to pull him up. Then, as you can see, the scorching heat left marks on my body, but I don't regret it."
Horatio swallowed the wine in his throat: "Thank you."
"What?" Louise snorted and laughed.
"Do you believe it? That boy is me."
"What are you kidding? If that was you, how could you be from below..." Louise fell silent halfway through her words, turned her beautiful face to Horatio, and looked at his face carefully.
[That boy...seems to have black hair. The facial features...are a bit similar, is it really him? ]
"After you rescued me, I was sent to the nearby Lower Nest Orphanage as the only surviving orphan because I had no documents. But I couldn't stand the tyranny and environment inside, so I escaped, and then the things in the file happened."
Horatio drank the wine in the glass, exhaled a long turbid breath, looked at Louise's face, raised the corner of his mouth and snorted, saying: "Thank you, Louise, if it weren't for your heroic deeds at that time, I might not be where I am now."
Louise looked at the handsome young man in front of her and was dumbfounded for a while, then chuckled: "It seems that the God Emperor has already arranged everything in the dark."
"Merry Christmas Eve, Louise. To the God Emperor,..." Horatio looked up at the black sky outside the window with snowflakes flying and said.
Tomorrow is the day when the Khorne cultists launch a large-scale attack, and many people will die.
He wanted to say some more blessings like "I wish us all a safe return", but this is an extremely dark world. The more you expect something, the more the evil god will take it away. Push people to despair, then offer an irresistible price to induce them to surrender.
He didn't want to set a flag before going to the battlefield, so he only made a wish to the Emperor and Sanguinius in his heart.
Louise saw that Horatio was hesitant to speak, and she knew what he was worried about.
She mixed some wine with Horatio, put her hand on his strong shoulder, pressed it on the bright red tassel, and clinked glasses with him: "Be safe."
The two glasses touched lightly, making a crisp sound.
"Be safe."
