A Realistic Mount & Blade Game
#4 - A chance encounter in the stairwell
Of course, in the end, Shen Mu still didn't choose to open the apartment door.
Having 15 Swadian recruits as his confidence in this monster-ridden world was one thing.
But opening the apartment door and entering that dangerous world, eroded by the dead spirit world rules, shrouded in darkness and gray fog, and filled with undead monsters, was another matter entirely!
Shen Mu's remaining memories still made him choose to be cautious.
So he leaned against the headboard, and together with the 15 Swadian recruits in the room, guarded the brazier until the next morning.
The first ray of sunlight appeared on the eastern horizon.
The dawn rose.
The darkness, which had originally occupied the absolute dominance of this world, seemed to reach a critical point in an instant, disappearing in just a few breaths.
Only a sliver of fish-belly white appeared on the horizon, gradually fading the darkness of the night.
This represented the disappearance of the rules of the undead world.
"It's dawn," Shen Mu's hand was still holding the long sword that the system had rewarded him when he loaded the character template.
Watching the darkness outside the window fade away, and vaguely seeing the buildings across the road, a smile appeared on his face.
It also meant he was safe.
The daytime.
Was no longer the main stage for the undead rules and those monsters!
But before Shen Mu could rejoice, his stomach let out a gurgling sound, and his stomach began to cramp slightly.
Even though he hadn't dared to sleep much last night, and had even arranged for 15 Swadian recruits to take turns on guard duty, watching over the brazier and candles, he felt deeply tired and weary, as well as hungry, when his spirit relaxed in the morning.
"Let's cook porridge," Shen Mu turned his head to look at the corner, where there were still 5 bags of wheat from the system rewards, which could be used as food.
Taking out half a bag would be enough for the 16 of them to cook porridge.
What's more, for Shen Mu, his predecessor had also stored a lot of shelf-stable canned food, hidden under the bed, which could be added as side dishes when they ate these wheat porridge later.
There were stainless steel basins in the apartment room, as well as clear water that Shen Mu's predecessor had collected and stored in plastic buckets.
The Swadian recruits found them and busied themselves.
Tearing open a bag of wheat.
They simply sieved the dust on top, poured it all into the basin, added water, and placed it on the brazier to start cooking porridge.
As the flames licked the stainless steel basin, the water began to boil due to the heat, and the brown wheat grains began to roll in the basin.
It was believed that before long, a pot of thick wheat porridge, enough to fill their stomachs, would be cooked.
During this time, Shen Mu also personally went to the toilet and carefully collected the solid wax that had flowed down from the few candles that had burned out last night.
These could be reused repeatedly, and as long as he found some cotton rope, he could make them into candles again.
Compared to braziers, these candles could effectively dispel darkness in a small area and last for a long time, and the flames were also more stable.
They could be regarded as necessities for maintaining safety in this world.
After about half an hour.
The wheat porridge was cooked.
Shen Mu first opened two cans of braised pork, chopped them all up, and mixed them into the distinct wheat porridge.
The snow-white fat and the aroma of spices immediately mixed into the full basin of porridge, adding a special fragrance.
This was a specially opened can to celebrate the arrival of the Swadian recruits.
Not much, but it could at least add some flavor.
"Thank you for your generosity, Lord Shen Mu!" These Swadian recruits also smelled the aroma of the braised pork mixed into the wheat porridge.
Even before eating, they were all drooling from the aroma.
But even so, they ate in batches.
After all, Shen Mu didn't have many tableware.
Anyway, whether it was stainless steel rice bowls or water cups, they were basically the Swadian recruits' dining tools, and they ate heartily and sweetly.
"Now that I have the Mount \u0026 Blade system and so many Swadian recruits, perhaps I can search this apartment to see if there are any remaining supplies left."
Shen Mu was also thinking while eating wheat porridge.
The rule change three years ago directly caused the disappearance of fifty to sixty percent of the population of Blue Star.
This also led to the fact that the supplies in many places were actually still abundant.
Especially in those shopping malls or warehouses.
Many of the sealed packaged snacks or canned goods, and even dairy products, have been preserved intact.
Perhaps this should also be attributed to the invasion of the undead world rules.
So that the original four distinct seasons of Blue Star, the current temperature has always been relatively cold, similar to the constant early spring season.
And now people have also discovered that as long as there is darkness or gray fog, it is as if time is suspended for the original items of Blue Star, even a fresh apple, as long as no light shines on it, it can always maintain this state.
When others find this apple, it is still quite fresh, and it tastes crisp, refreshing, and juicy!
"If I remember correctly, the dozen or so cans of meat that the predecessor found were found in a closed warehouse of a supermarket."
Shen Mu took a big gulp of wheat porridge, and by the way, he also picked up a piece of fat braised pork and put it in his mouth, also lamenting that the supplies left by the predecessor were still quite abundant.
At least he didn't think about it, and before cutting his wrists, he enjoyed all the good supplies before leaving.
But just at this time, a new dialog box popped up on Shen Mu's retina.
[Ding! Temporary mission detected an event occurring!]
[Mission issued: Clean up the floor.]
[Mission introduction: The seventh floor of this apartment building where you are located is currently only occupied by you alone. Now that there are many more Swadian recruits, more rooms are needed to accommodate them, so you need to clean up the floor and rooms.]
[Mission conditions: Clean up the entire floor and rooms during the day, and make sure there are no enemies.]
[Mission rewards: Bread × 5 portions; Wheat field × 1 acre; Recruit upgrade scroll (10 people) × 1.]
Looking at the content on the dialog box, Shen Mu was slightly stunned: "Another new mission has come! ?"
But this time, Shen Mu's eyes lit up.
"Bread, wheat field, and upgrade scroll?"
Isn't this exactly the food that Shen Mu currently lacks the most, as well as a constant source of food, plus something to improve the combat effectiveness of the soldiers!
This is like sending charcoal in the snow for Shen Mu!
And the requirement to complete is precisely to search and clean up, only the seventh floor of this apartment!
Soon, the Swadian recruits gathered again.
Long-handled scythes, single-handed axes, and long wooden shields had already reappeared on these young men who were full of desire for the future.
"Let's go," Shen Mu came to the apartment door with his long sword at this time.
As the door was opened outwards.
The still dim apartment corridor in the morning, along with a gust of slightly rancid breeze, appeared in front of everyone.
2 Swadian recruits took the lead in rushing out with long-handled scythes, and then the remaining 3 recruits filed out.
"Safe," the voice of a Swadian recruit came from outside.
"Um," Shen Mu nodded, and then took the remaining 10 Swadian recruits out together.
The apartment building that Shen Mu's predecessor found has a total of seven floors.
The overall layout is mainly rectangular.
The whole looks like a '日' character.
Before the undead world eroded, it should be a commercial office or a low-area cheap apartment building.
Shen Mu's room is in the upper right corner of this '日' character.
And the one in the middle is the former elevator room.
However, because the dead spirit world rules came, the physical rules that had disappeared included human-produced electricity and electrical instruments.
The electricity that can now take effect may only be naturally occurring lightning.
"What a pity," Shen Mu had already led the team to inspect all the corridors on the seventh floor of the apartment, standing in the elevator room looking at the closed elevator protection door, thinking of the former human technology, he was also quite唏嘘.
"Sir, everything is normal, no abnormalities were found," the Swadian recruit next to him asked.
The Swadian recruits next to him were also puzzled.
They had all seen zombies and skeletons last night, so they still had a deep impression of these terrible undead creatures.
But when they left the crowded apartment this morning, intending to come out and fight.
But found nothing.
The feeling in my heart is indeed a bit strange.
"Relax, there will indeed be a chance to fight later," Shen Mu knew clearly what these young people who were eager to try and wanted to stand out in the troubled times through fighting were thinking.
Looking up at the neatly arranged apartment floors with a total of forty rooms around the elevator room, his mouth also pursed.
After inspecting the floor, the system did not prompt the mission to be completed.
So obviously.
In these forty apartment rooms, you also have to open the dusty old closed doors and go in and see!
"Who's over there!" A Swadian recruit standing on the side suddenly shouted angrily, immediately alarming everyone.
Including Shen Mu.
Following the Swadian recruit holding a long-handled scythe, aiming at the fire exit, which is the direction of the stairs.
"Prepare!" Shen Mu said in a deep voice.
'唰!'
Next to him, the 15 Swadian recruits, at this time, had all aimed the long-handled scythes in their hands at that side.
The cold and shimmering scythe head was extremely deterrent.
Especially when these Swadian recruits stood side by side and formed a long spear phalanx, it seemed quite imposing.
"Take it easy, little brother," a male voice with surprise came from the stairs at this time.
A middle-aged man wearing chain mail and holding a long sword in his hand took the lead in raising his hand and walked out of the stairwell.
At the same time, behind him, there were two thin, hunched over creatures with jackal heads, holding rusty scimitars in their hands, but with glowing green eyes, walking out together.
"Spirit world...soldier!?" The word immediately appeared in Shen Mu's remaining mind.
