American Comics: BOSS Invasion
#280 - Orangutan invasion
"That concludes the introduction of all members of the first Hunter Squad. They are all individuals with special abilities. If the Captain wishes to learn more about their detailed profiles, our staff will deliver them to you later.
However, for security reasons, we do not recommend keeping the information at the police station."
Alex remained noncommittal.
He was well aware that the police station leaked like a sieve. Forget about superpowered individuals; even petty thieves with a bit of skill could come and go as they pleased.
The Flash was a prime example. Since his emergence, he'd broken into the police station countless times.
"If you have nothing further to add, the Hunter Squad will officially take up residence at the police station today."
Tomie closed the file folder in her left hand, expressionlessly adjusted her glasses, and said, "If any problems arise afterward, you can notify the Foundation, and we will send someone to liaise with you!"
Alex nodded and said, "I'm not worried about that. I'll communicate directly with the Hunter Squad if anything comes up. So, who's the Captain?"
"Yohohohoho…"
Accompanied by a strange laugh, a skeleton with an afro took a step forward and bowed gracefully: "You may call me Brook, the Soul Musician! I am but a humble servant, honored to be the Captain of the Hunter Squad.
Honestly, Archbishop, you're really going too far. We were having so much fun in Europe, all prepared for a ten-country European tour. Now, it's all gone down the drain!"
Alex's lips twitched: 'Someone like you doing a concert…'
He was truly speechless.
Everyone stared at him. After a long while, Alex regained his composure.
"According to normal procedure, I should test your abilities first, but since it's a recommendation from Sean, we can skip that step…"
Alex glanced at Qi Shan and said, "Then, the five of you, come with me. I'll introduce you to everyone. By the way, Mr. Qi, would you like to join us?"
Qi Shan, who had been resting with his eyes closed, merely raised his hand in response, remaining silent.
Tomie said, "I apologize, Captain. The Boss has been preoccupied with the Hunter Squad's affairs these past few days, coordinating various departments and completing this long-distance activation, which has taken a lot of effort, so…"
Alex's expression turned strange: "Alright, I understand!"
He turned and walked out of the office, clapping his hands loudly to attract the attention of everyone in the police station.
"Everyone, I have an announcement to make!"
He raised his hand slightly, and the five members of the Hunter Squad lined up, appearing in everyone's view.
"As you may have guessed, the support plan we applied for from higher authorities has not been approved.
This Hunter Squad consists of five powerful superpowered warriors and will temporarily join us as external support. They will have temporary law enforcement powers, just like regular detectives.
This squad is funded by the Charity Relief Foundation and will not consume the police station's funds, so… welcome them!"
A round of enthusiastic applause immediately erupted.
Central City had been like this for years. Not only did the public treat the police as useless, but the police themselves weren't very proactive in catching thieves.
The entire police station, except for Captain Alex, only Old Joe, the Flash's dad, still held onto the original aspirations of a police officer.
The rest were all just bums waiting to die, cheering on the sidelines.
Therefore, they didn't care whether support came or not, as long as it didn't deplete the police station's funds.
"In the future, if you encounter any tricky cases, you can apply for the Hunter Squad's support, especially those involving superpowered criminals…"
Alex made a pointed remark, and the applause below became even more enthusiastic.
Qi Shan listened with his eyes closed, a faint hint of mockery tugging at the corner of his lips.
The DC universe, where the police are just a backdrop, even less important than passersby.
Usually, they are just tools for villains to display their power.
Central City is still alright; it's just about watching the enemy beat up the Flash, and at most, destroying two police cars. Usually, no one dies.
Gotham is different.
The police are like leeks, harvested wave after wave by high-IQ criminals like the Joker. Except for Commissioner Gordon, no one knows how many times the people below him have been replaced.
Just as Alex finished speaking, an emergency alarm sounded in the police station.
A commotion broke out below, and a female officer shouted nervously, "Captain! A large number of gorillas have suddenly appeared on Central Avenue. They are wearing armor, wielding spears, and advancing towards the city center like an army."
Another policeman shouted, "Quick, look at the TV!"
Everyone looked up together and saw a live broadcast on the TV screen.
The scene was filmed from a helicopter high in the sky. The small reporter was excited, his face flushed, and the strong wind from the open cabin door tousled his hair.
"As you can see, I am currently on Central Avenue. I was just on a routine aerial patrol when I suddenly encountered a gorilla army invasion.
We don't know where these gorillas came from, nor do we know their purpose, but looking at their weapons and equipment, as well as their orderly ranks, it's hard to believe they are just ordinary gorillas.
Could it be that the prophecy of the Rise of the Planet of the Apes is finally about to happen?
Oh my God! Look what I've discovered. That's the Flash, Kid Flash, and his team!
Is a battle between good and evil about to unfold?
Superheroes have already taken the front lines. Where are our police and military?
Does the city's safety only rely on heroes in tight-fitting suits? Central City Television will continue to broadcast for you!"
Alex's face darkened. The TV reporters were just courting death, why did they have to mention the police station?
He turned to look at Brook.
Brook covered his afro and chuckled softly: "Yohohohoho~ Looks like it's our turn to take the stage!"
He stomped his feet and directly smashed through the window, jumping down. Behind him, the enormous Laura followed without hesitation.
There was a bang, and half of the wall, along with half of the window, was directly shattered.
Numbers 16, Morty, and Boo followed in quick succession, disappearing in the blink of an eye.
Looking at the damaged wall, Alex's forehead veins bulged.
Couldn't these bastards just use the door?
He glanced at Qi Shan out of the corner of his eye, only to find that the sofa was empty.
"The Boss had something to attend to and left first! As for the repair issues, you can send the bill directly to the Foundation! So…"
Tomie left those words behind, nodded expressionlessly, and strode away slowly under the gaze of all the police officers.
Alex's eyes twitched upward, and he muttered in a low voice: "Damn rich people!"
