American Comics: BOSS Invasion

#508 - Reporters dispatched

Night. Opposite the police station's morgue.

A man and a woman sat in a used Ford sedan, idly fiddling with their phones.

The woman occasionally glanced at the street corner opposite them, as if waiting for something to happen.

The man was much more direct, his gaze intentionally and repeatedly sweeping over the woman's body, waist, hips, and legs.

"Carlos, if your eyes keep wandering, I'll have them gouged out and used as footballs!" the woman said flatly.

"Alright, alright! You know I have no resistance to a perfect figure," the man said, raising his hands in surrender.

"Honestly, Jill, your figure has noticeably improved lately. Have you been working out?"

"No, I just spent three months in the Arab war zone. I thought I'd get a big scoop, but I accidentally got my boss killed, so I got fired!" the woman replied calmly.

Carlos shuddered and said with a wry smile, "Okay, I should have guessed you hadn't given up on the Pulitzer Prize yet."

"Do you think the editor-in-chief is messing with us? It's been two hours, and there hasn't been a peep. Where did he hear that something would happen here?"

"Be patient, Carlos. This isn't like you! When you investigated the orphanage incident, you lurked for a whole month."

Carlos scoffed. "Yeah, I handed in a set of photos and got a pink slip instead of seeing a story published.

The two of us are pretty well-known in the industry. No wonder we couldn't make it at the TV station and had to run to this small tabloid to make a living!"

"Don't be so pessimistic!" Jill劝说道: "At least the salary is good, and the company's decoration is exquisite, especially the small bar on the 3rd floor. I'm really looking forward to it!"

"Speaking of which, I haven't even met the boss. Decorating the newspaper office like a high-tech enterprise, I really don't know what he's thinking..."

Carlos hadn't finished speaking when Jill suddenly interrupted him.

"Quiet, someone's coming out!"

The two of them immediately fell silent, lowered their bodies, and peered cautiously out the window.

A figure staggered out of the morgue, looking like a newly transformed zombie, stumbling and lurching.

Even a simple action like turning a corner after leaving the building almost caused him to fall several times.

Although the person was dressed tightly and the brim of his hat was pulled low, from the angle of the two people, they could still see the pale blue color on the person's face.

"Looks like electricity?"

Carlos said in a low voice, and Jill quickly stopped him.

She often did reports in this area and knew how to protect her safety.

The strange person in front of them was obviously not right, and they needed to minimize their presence as much as possible.

Suddenly, the alarms of all the cars on the street started blaring, the hazard lights flashed non-stop, and the sirens wailed.

The strange person was stunned for a moment, then like a child drawn to candy, he stumbled and lunged towards the headlights, unconsciously covering the lights with his palms, as if trying to grab the light.

The headlights buzzed, and a faint current gathered in the strange person's hands. The car visibly drained of power and fell silent again.

The two exchanged a surprised look. Carlos carefully took out his phone and switched to video recording mode.

They could clearly see a visible current flowing under the strange person's skin, extending from his arms and quickly gathering at his neck, before gradually spreading out again.

Seeming to have received an energy boost, the strange person's movements became noticeably smoother.

He suddenly raised his head, subconsciously attracted by the lights of the nearby square, and strode towards it.

As he passed, the vehicles on both sides of the street died one after another, and a faint current was transmitted through the air, absorbed by the strange person like homing swallows.

"What the hell is that thing!"

"Is this the time to ask that? Hurry up and follow! Carlos, the editor-in-chief was right, there's definitely a big story tonight!"

Jill's eyes lit up, and she hurriedly pushed open the car door and quickly followed the strange person.

At the same time, a depressed Spider-Man accidentally saw his girlfriend while wandering around.

The two of them were separated by a road, you looked at me, I looked at you, neither of them avoided eye contact.

Spider-Man suddenly figured it out.

I still love her, and I can give everything for love.

I want to be with her.

If I'm afraid of hurting her, wouldn't it be better to be more careful when acting normally?

The last conversation must have made her sad for a long time. Maybe I should comfort her.

Once the thought arose, it couldn't be stopped.

He walked across the road blankly and foolishly, amid the drivers' frantic cursing, and slowly walked to Gwen's face.

"You are so beautiful!"

Peter said unconsciously, and Gwen immediately smiled like a flower.

"Is it time?"

"What?"

"I mean, if we can't be lovers, maybe we should try to be friends!" Gwen said.

Peter nodded: "That's right!"

"This time, I don't want things to get too complicated between us, keep it simple!"

"Yes, that's right, no problem, that's what I think too!" Peter seemed a little incoherent.

Gwen smiled and said: "We should go get some ice cream to celebrate at this time!"

"You're right, I love ice cream to death!"

Peter's heart was beating faster, looking at the girl's smiling face, he felt that he still had a chance to have her again.

Just as he was about to say a few more warm words to smoothly complete the transformation of their relationship.

Suddenly, a commotion broke out in the square.

The big screens of the surrounding buildings kept flickering, as if there was not enough power.

The crowd was fleeing outwards, although not in a panic, but something had indeed happened.

Gwen glanced in that direction and found that many police officers were gathering towards the center of the square. She subconsciously turned her head to look at Peter.

But suddenly found that Peter had disappeared at some point, leaving only a pair of flat shoes with untied laces and an open backpack on the ground.

Gwen breathed a sigh of relief and squatted down to stuff her shoes into her backpack.

She knew that Spider-Man was back online.

Carlos and Jill followed all the way, more than 20 meters apart, without deliberately hiding their figures.

This is a square, a commercial area, and it is normal for people to come and go. Acting furtively would only attract attention.

Both of them were veteran reporters, and they knew this little trick very well.

The strange person seemed to be mentally unclear. He stumbled to the square, completely ignoring the eyes of the people around him, and directly pounced on the cable trench.

He casually opened the iron cover and actually put his hands directly on the cables.

A large amount of current gathered and was absorbed into his body along his arms. His whole body seemed to be glowing.

The nearby electronic equipment burst into sparks without warning, and a large number of small things that needed to use power died one after another.

How could the police not see such obvious actions? He called for support as soon as possible, and then cautiously approached.
