#1136 - Tragedy of fate
Things seemed to finally be back on track —
Tommy. Keller. Lenny. The lady next door and the baby. Crockett.
Everything, everyone, found happiness, everyone found direction and focus in life, the world seemed to finally be back on track.
Except for him.
Evan lay in the bathtub, turned on the faucet, and quietly watched the water gurgle, the icy cold water slowly submerging him.
Taking a deep breath, Evan closed his eyes, letting the water envelop him, drown him, devour him, the world fading into endless darkness.
However, things weren't that simple.
Buoyancy pushed him up and down on the surface of the water, his body never able to completely sink, instead, as the bathtub began to overflow, he floated back to the surface.
He tried to hold his breath, to make himself sink again; but he still struggled.
Just then, Tommy came in and saw Evan struggling in the bathtub, quickly stepped forward, and pulled Evan out of the bathtub.
Tommy didn't think much of it, he still thought it was an accident.
Evan despondently admitted that he was trying to end his life.
Unexpectedly, Tommy began to comfort Evan, the whole bizarre situation plunging Evan into collapse, "I'm so damned that I can't even kill myself."
Tommy hugged Evan tightly, accompanying Evan with practical actions, despite the bitterness and struggle, Tommy still forced himself to cheer up.
"I have to get you out of here, or visiting hours will be over."
Visiting hours?
What visiting hours?
Before the audience in the screening room could even let the doubts spread in their minds, the movie had already given the answer —
Andrea. Lung cancer.
The once vibrant Andrea, now lay withered on the hospital bed like a zombie, on the verge of death.
Evan was stunned.
Nicholas was equally stunned.
The face on the big screen, haggard, decadent, depressed, with a stubbly beard, messy hair, terrible dark circles, and cracked lips further highlighting the dullness of her complexion, and worst of all, there was no light in those deep blue eyes, only deep fatigue and困顿.
At this moment, those eyes stared blankly ahead, flicking slightly, panic and fear, timidity and anger, and other emotions intertwined and entangled, trying to struggle, trying to erupt, but were grabbed by the ankle by a deep sense of powerlessness, continuing to fall in endless darkness, being devoured little by little.
Unable to shout, unable to cry.
That kind of helplessness and confusion instantly overwhelmed him.
At the same time, it also overwhelmed Nicholas in front of the big screen.
Nicholas opened his mouth slightly, trying to make some sound, but found that there were no thoughts in his mind, just following that gaze of deep blue eyes, falling together, free-falling, endlessly continuing to fall.
"Since I blew myself up, you've become a chain smoker?" Evan murmured.
Andrea was stunned.
It was actually Tommy comforting Andrea, "Sorry, he's been a little strange lately."
Evan didn't have time to pay attention to these things, he was just immersed in his own thoughts, "I can fix all this."
Andrea, "Fix?"
Evan muttered to himself, he needed the diary, but he then realized that he didn't have hands, so in this timeline, he might not be able to find his diary, so what should he do, how else could he go back?
Evan's panicked appearance made Andrea alert, she realized that Jason went crazy at Evan's current age.
However, before Andrea could say it, Evan already knew what Andrea was going to say; the problem was that in this timeline, Andrea had never told Evan about Jason, and Evan had never visited Jason.
Evan's thoughts became a mess, his memories were all messed up in different timelines, the timelines intertwined, and the beginning, development, turning point, and conclusion of things also began to become chaotic.
Andrea looked at Evan, who was gradually falling into confusion, tears slowly sliding down her eyes, "You... just... are becoming more and more like Jason..."
Andrea's throat was choked by despair and fear, but Evan didn't notice, he didn't have the heart to care about these things, his mind was only filled with one thought:
Save his mother.
With Lenny's help, Evan found the only diary in this timeline, before the mailbox explosion occurred, before Crockett's death, Evan had no choice, he could only return to the timeline where he first started writing the diary, but he still found a solution:
As long as he destroys that detonator in advance, the subsequent things will not happen.
So, Evan rummaged through the kitchen and found a kitchen knife, just as he was about to leave, Andrea saw this scene.
Before Evan took the next step, Andrea stopped him.
Then, Evan returned to reality, and nothing happened.
Then, Evan returned to the afternoon when he was filming in that basement, even before he could stop George, he turned around and found the detonator according to the memory screen, rummaged it out, and prepared to completely destroy this detonator once and for all.
But he never expected that when George was preventing Evan from destroying the entire basement, he threw the lit detonator out, and then Keller picked it up.
When he woke up again, Evan realized that he had entered juvenile detention, beginning a wandering and decadent life, and finally entering a mental hospital.
Evan woke up and tried to find his diary; but the doctor told him that there was no diary at all, there were never any diaries.
"...This is just a part of the fantasy world your brain has fabricated to overcome your inner guilt about accidentally killing Keller-Miller."
The doctor said.
"Think, Evan, think. You made up a non-existent disease yourself, living alternately in the worlds of college, prison, and hemiplegia."
The doctor said, he was crazy.
But, Evan didn't believe it, "I want my diary, I want it now, I know they're in your hands, you have to give them back to me. Don't lie to me anymore, I need them."
Evan was crazy, his eyes were red, roaring at the doctor, roaring, and the shouting evolved into a bitter plea, the sadness in his eyes could no longer be controlled.
Nicholas was completely stunned.
At some point, he actually began to believe the doctor, maybe everything before was just Evan's fantasy, a story staged in a schizophrenic mind. Maybe.
However, deep down, there was a voice that firmly grasped the reins of reason, everything that happened in the entire movie was real, it's just that ordinary people like them couldn't understand it.
So, what is real, and what is illusion?
Also, what is normal, and what is madness?
When they look at the lunatics in those mental hospitals, they naturally think they are abnormal, think that all the knowledge they say that is beyond common sense is crazy talk, fearing, rejecting, dodging, and then locking them behind iron windows and bars, maintaining the order of the world.
So, who is crazy? And who holds the truth?
