From Flower Vase to Film Emperor in Hollywood
#1137 - The End of the World
Despair. Fury. Madness.
Finally, those emotions evolved into a plea, a desperate and sorrowful plea, the brokenness in those eyes piercing the large screen, striking the softest part of the heart.
The world quieted down.
All the noise and clamor vanished, all attention focused on those deep blue eyes, bitterness slowly spreading across the tip of the tongue.
Until the doctor, with a helpless sigh, spoke.
"You remind me of your father."
Gasp.
The entire screening room sucked in a cold breath, only to cut it off in the next second, everything connecting, finally becoming a perfect circle.
"He was always shouting for those photo albums, even though those photo albums never existed."
"I'm sorry."
Evan stood there dumbfounded, muttering to himself, unable to accept reality.
Then, he paused, "Photo albums?"
He remembered.
But, the next second, he lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground.
The doctor scanned Evan's brain again, the brain tissue damage was too severe, and all of it irreversible, which seemed to pronounce Evan's death sentence.
Evan stood at the door of the doctor's office, calmly and quietly listening to everything.
The conversation paused for a moment, and Evan then pushed the door open and entered the office.
"Mom, did you bring the home videos you took in the past?"
Andrea, "Yes, I brought them, they're right here."
The smile at the corner of Evan's mouth lifted slightly, "That's great, I really like watching them."
With a gentle nod, Evan left the office, wearily leaning against the doorframe, the doctor's voice coming from inside, suggesting that Evan transfer to a specialized hospital for treatment first thing tomorrow morning.
Evan stood there, quietly gazing into the distance, the focus in his eyes gradually dissipating, as if able to see the distant unknown through time and space.
Then, his gaze gradually focused again, revealing a touch of determination amidst the sadness and pain.
He turned to look at the doctor's office, taking a deep look at Andrea through the crack in the door.
Taking a deep breath, he no longer lingered, turning and resolutely striding away.
So, what was he planning to do?
Or rather, how was he planning to do it, wasn't it said that there was no more diary?
Night fell, Evan stealthily crept along the corridor wall—
This, isn't this the opening scene of the hospital?
Indeed it was.
Evan sneaked all the way, secretly heading to the doctor's office, without alarming anyone; but the doctor's office was locked, he had no choice but to kick open the front door, which triggered the alarm, he entered the office, used the sofa to block the front door, and hid under the desk to conceal himself to buy time, leaving the last message.
Before the guards were about to break into the office, Evan turned on the television.
What was playing inside was, surprisingly, the home video Evan had requested.
Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang.
The guards were frantically ramming the door, some even smashing the glass to break in.
The time left for Evan was running out, he looked at the beams of flashlight flashing outside, and looked again at the television screen emitting a faint light in front of him, a resolute determination revealed in those eyes.
In an instant, the light and shadow froze.
Nicholas paused for a moment, slightly stunned.
Andrea, "Ah!"
That heart-wrenching scream pierced the large screen, fiercely gripping Nicholas's throat, plummeting into endless darkness in free fall.
Andrea, "Something's not right, it hurts so much!"
Andrea panicked, the doctor also panicked, the whole world was spinning.
"You have no lifeline, no soul, you shouldn't have come to this world at all."
"Before you were born, I was pregnant three times, but they all miscarried. From that moment on, I thought you were my miracle baby."
No!
Andrea's heart-wrenching cry echoed for a long time in the screening room.
In the picture, the baby still floating in the amniotic fluid used the umbilical cord to tie around its own neck, strangling its own breath in this way.
"I can't stand my dad, but if I move in with mom, I'll never see you again."
Beep.
The sound of the heartbeat in the electrocardiogram stretched longer and longer.
Calm without any fluctuation, yet piercing the heart like a sharp blade—
He finally killed himself.
Perhaps, only by destroying the root of everything can things return to normal.
"No!"
Andrea's protests and accusations, so desperate and so painful, were ultimately swallowed and disappeared, everything returning to calm in such a cruel way.
It was over, all over, completely drawing a period.
Nicholas fell into shock and impact, collapsing into the chair completely paralyzed, his strength loosened, his shoulders slumped down, his whole person as if he had been fished out of the water.
However, the movie wasn't over yet.
Nicholas: ? ? ?
The camera turned, Andrea lay on the hospital bed, lifeless and ashen-faced, turning her head to stare blankly at the newborn baby in the next bed, wanting to cry but unable to, stiffening in place like a puppet.
Time flowed by gently.
Tommy and Keller moved, leaving George, heading to their mother's new home, where they finally had a happy and fulfilling childhood.
Andrea left Jason, met new people and started a new life, and finally, she had a brand new miracle baby.
Lenny didn't encounter bullying, grew up healthy under the care of his parents and the surrounding of friends, and passed his thirteenth birthday without disaster or difficulty.
When he grew up, Keller entered university, met the right person, and stepped into the hall of marriage hand in hand, a happy smile blooming at the corner of his mouth.
Everything was fine.
It's just that, in this world, there has never been an Evan, no trace of him at all.
The movie ended.
The entire Wilshire Theater plunged into darkness, in the turbid darkness, the subtitles were slowly appearing, not the kind of darkness where you can't see your fingers, the looming blurred halo outlining the silhouette of the audience.
However, Nicholas felt it was dazzling.
He tried to close his eyes, but he didn't know what was going on, it was as if he had forgotten how to close his eyes, just staring blankly at the faint light in front, all the thoughts and emotions in his mind were in a mess, almost unable to breathe.
So, the movie, like a Disney fairy tale, has a perfect and clichéd happy ending; but the small difference is that, except for the protagonist.
The whole world, except for the protagonist, all ushered in happiness.
So, is this a comedy or a tragedy? And how should a perfect ending be defined?
Nicholas kept waiting, waiting for a reversal or an Easter egg, a twist that subverted the ending, holding his breath.
Unfortunately, he was disappointed.
