Chapter 119. Impossible! Absolutely impossible!
Clotilde was left dumbfounded to discover it was Noah.
Just last night, she had specifically asked the villagers if they had seen the strikingly handsome young man with black hair who had accompanied her.
The villagers had all replied in the negative, causing her a moment of concern.
Yet here was Noah, having returned to the nearby town ahead of her, deliberately seeking out the hunters of ill repute to humiliate her, all for the sake of recording her reaction?!
How self-centered could one person be?!
Fuming, Clotilde disregarded her image and shot back, “Do you have a problem with that?! You said you were going to do research when you left last night, and then you vanished! And now, here you are, deliberately provoking men to insult a nun in the street?! Repent! Repent for your sins!”
Clotilde’s words were charged with emotion, lacking the gravity they had held moments before.
And for some reason, as the ‘man’ twisted his arm in her grip, she felt an odd sense of intimacy.
Could he be a colleague or someone related to the church?
One can only state that the truth is indeed as such, for within Clotilde’s words, besides the evident anger, there lingered a palpable resentment.
Clotilde was not only displeased with Noah’s abrupt departure after their encounter, but also deeply unsettled by his encouragement of the men to humiliate her today.
This was not merely a matter of seeking retribution.
“Confess your sins? Hmph, how amusing that sounds! I haven’t done anything wrong, have I? I merely asked that young lady if you would like to be a special guest at the opening of their bookstore. It’s your own fault for thinking of things you shouldn’t!”
As Noah approached from across the street, he scribbled furiously, documenting something, his mouth never ceasing its chatter, multitasking with an ease that infuriated the nun.
A special guest? Was it truly necessary to speak so ambiguously about merely being a guest at a newly opened bookstore? Who was he trying to fool with such lies?
…Wait? Did Noah just say ‘young lady’?
The nun, suddenly realizing something, turned to the ‘man’ whose arm she still held tightly. This ‘man’ was now gazing up at her with a pained expression, speaking in a voice that was decidedly softer, almost pitiful:
“Um, hello, Sister. I am merely playing the role of a male attendant at the bookstore. I apologize for the way I approached you, but that gentleman offered too much for me to refuse.”
The voice was unmistakably feminine, a stark contrast to the earlier bravado.
“…Ahem, I apologize. It was rude of me.”
Realizing the awkwardness, the nun quickly released her grip and assumed a more dignified posture, hands folded demurely before her, her tone softening considerably.
“See? I told you it was all in your head. Now apologize to her; how can you call yourself a servant of God acting this way?”
Noah, now standing before them, fanned the flames of the situation, as if he bore no responsibility, instead demanding an apology from the nun.
It was utterly unreasonable, yet the demeanor Noah displayed was so intimidating that the nun nearly fell for it.
“I truly am sorry! Did you think I would say such a thing? You’re the one causing trouble here, sir! And stop writing! I won’t let you put this in your novel!”
The nun, finally realizing the absurdity, turned her ire towards Noah.
How dare he claim she misunderstood anything? Was it not clear that he had instigated this confusion?
Enough was enough! All this just to see her reaction, stirring up such unnecessary trouble!
…
About ten minutes later, the attendant, having clarified that this was merely a misunderstanding, left with more money than Noah had promised, enduring the pain in her arm with a cheerful demeanor.
As Noah had claimed, she was indeed not a headhunter from a brothel; he had simply manipulated her into using that ambiguous tone to mislead the nun.
In truth, she was the daughter of a bookstore owner in the city, preparing for the grand opening in two days, and her masquerade as a man was just one part of the plan.
Convinced by Noah, she found the idea of having a beautiful nun as a special guest for the opening day quite enticing, thus agreeing to his request.
And so, this farce had unfolded.
Clotilde couldn’t help but think that, for a man, she was rather too beautiful; it turned out she was indeed a woman.
“…So? Don’t you have anything to say?”
The nun, walking alongside Noah, broke the silence after several minutes, initiating a conversation with him.
However, the nun, Miss, had an unpleasant expression, and her gaze didn’t even fall on Noah beside her.
“Hmm? No, how, do you plan to add some sentimental value to my observation records? That would be great, I’ll record it right away.”
Noah, who intentionally provoked her, wouldn’t apologize, and instead, he even planned to reopen the book in his hand, pretending to continue writing.
Of course, Noah didn’t look at Clotile beside him either, and the two seemed to be in their own worlds.
Upon hearing Noah’s words, Clotile’s initial thought that Noah’s silence was a sign of self-reflection was completely shattered. She immediately stopped in her tracks, closed her eyes, and spoke to Noah with a dissatisfied tone:
“No need, sir. You’re truly beyond redemption.”
After finishing her sentence, Clotile turned around, intending to head back, not wanting to act together with this annoying man.
“Oh, I see. So, you’re upset because you misunderstood and thought you’d be treated as a prostitute at a brothel, huh? I didn’t expect Miss Nun to be so conservative.”
However, just as she started to walk back, Noah’s voice came from behind her.
Moreover, it didn’t decrease in volume as she left, indicating that Noah had turned around and followed her.
Clotile felt both annoyed and relieved at the same time.
What’s going on? So, this person knows what kind of mistake they made?
But what’s with the unexpected conservatism! She’s a nun, for goodness’ sake! What’s wrong with being conservative?
“The word ‘unexpected’ is unnecessary. As a nun, I naturally have a negative view of brothels.”
Since Noah had caught up to her, Miss Nun felt a small sense of victory, which made her tone slightly arrogant.
“Oh? But I’m afraid even the prostitutes at brothels wouldn’t indulge in self-pleasure in the wilderness in front of a man.”
However, as Noah’s clearly mocking voice echoed from behind, Miss Nun’s face immediately turned bright red.
The extremely shameful memory she had tried to seal away and never think about again resurfaced in her mind.
“T-that must be… uh, Yin’s fault! Tell me to forget it! Forget it quickly!”
As she recalled her embarrassing behavior of desiring Noah, Miss Nun couldn’t bear the shame anymore and turned around, revealing a furious and ashamed expression.
Her devout praying hands had also clenched into fists, clearly showing that she hadn’t accepted reality and was just trying to escape.
But she understood that she couldn’t maintain a dignified demeanor in front of this person anymore…
However, she didn’t want to be seen as a foolish woman in Noah’s eyes either!
Lust was lust, and normal times were normal! It was impossible to be the same, okay?!
She was absolutely impossible to desire Noah’s body, whether now or in the future, under normal circumstances!
Absolutely impossible, okay?!
