Chapter 120. Though Displeased, Still Concerned
Gazing at the nun who resolutely refused to acknowledge her past actions, Noah couldn’t help but smirk.
Whether she admitted it or not mattered little; the truth remained unchanged.
The mark of lust, after all, was but a catalyst for the deepest desires within humanity. If a person was not inclined toward passion, even the most potent mark would not stir them much.
Noah had said it before: to him, Clotilde was a natural embodiment of desire. With her figure, her beauty, and her role as the defeated heroine of a sordid tale, it would be a disservice to her character not to indulge in the carnal.
And she was powerless to resist, for the mark lay upon her lower abdomen, right before her womb.
That was a curse exclusive to the lustful demon, one that even Noah, the dark god, could not lift.
He could layer on stronger curses, but purification was beyond his reach; after all, he did not wield the power of cleansing.
So, despite her stubbornness now, there would come a time when she would have to accept it.
Noah merely smiled ambiguously, saying nothing.
But it was easy to guess that it was not a pleasant thought, and thus Clotilde felt her anger boiling.
Could this man truly believe she was some lovesick fool yearning for his body!?
Fortunately, just before she could spiral further into rage, she noticed the gaze of a passerby nearby, prompting her to rein in her emotions for the moment.
Clotilde resolved to reprimand this man who looked down upon her and her faith when they were alone later.
For now, it was better to maintain some decorum in front of others.
She personally didn’t mind, but wearing the nun’s habit meant she could not bring shame upon the sisterhood or the church.
Thus, Clotilde tucked away her feelings, quickly regaining her composure as she turned to leave.
As she expected, Noah followed her.
Hmph, let him follow. Just wait until there’s no one around; I’ll teach him what proper etiquette is!
With that thought, the nun quickened her pace, distancing herself from the street they had just occupied.
Once she reached a secluded corner, Clotilde spun around, ready to make Noah understand that while she might need him when the mark flared, he must not mistake that for a desire for him in her everyday life.
“Mr. Noah, you listen closely now, I—huh? Mr. Noah?”
But just as Clotilde was poised to deliver a stern lecture, she realized that the annoying figure who had been trailing her was nowhere to be found.
“…What? Gone again!?”
Seeing Noah vanish without a word, just like the night before, left Clotilde in shock, her anger dissipating.
What was happening? She had envisioned Noah following her, ready to hear her reprimands, wearing that carefree smile of his, completely oblivious to her words.
She had even imagined the future where he would ignore her no matter what she said.
But she never anticipated he would simply disappear.
“Enough already… why must I endure this struggle…”
Though she knew there was a high chance nothing had happened to Noah, the nun could not shake her worry about what she would do if something did occur. With a mix of complaints and urgency, she hurried back in the direction she had just come from.
She resembled a nun searching for a lost child, scanning the area for that figure which, in truth, was quite conspicuous.
Black hair might not be rare, and young men were certainly plentiful.
Yet Noah’s presence was undeniably strong; how to put it? To Clotilde, Noah was that kind of special existence that felt utterly out of place among others.
Perhaps it could be described as a certain aura.
That self-centered demeanor, completely disregarding the thoughts of others, would surely stand out in a crowd.
But after nearly a minute of brisk walking, Clotilde had yet to catch sight of that unforgettable figure.
“…Could he have been kidnapped? How else could he have vanished so suddenly?”
The longer she searched, the more her anxiety grew.
Generally, men didn’t need to worry about kidnapping, but Clotilde felt Noah was an exception.
After all, he had just given that cross-dressing woman a considerable sum of money for a commission and some form of compensation.
What if someone with ill intentions had seen him as a wealthy target?
Moreover, in her eyes, Noah was quite handsome, the type that would attract the attention of mature women.
Even if it wasn’t for money, it was entirely plausible that some affluent lady, taken by his looks, might have whimsically decided to abduct him.
At that moment, the nun was nearly frantic, like an ant on a hot pan, glancing repeatedly at the three other directions at the intersection, unsure which way might lead her to Noah.
“Hmm? Who are you saying was kidnapped?”
Just then, Noah’s voice, light and carefree, rang out from behind her.
Startled, the nun quickly turned to see Noah standing not far behind her, at the entrance of a nearby beverage shop, holding a steaming cup of coffee, a look of amusement on his face as he watched her.
“Y-You went to buy coffee!?”
Realization dawned on her, and the nun’s voice rose in indignation at the sudden disappearance of Noah.
“Yeah, I caught a whiff of something delicious while passing by. What’s wrong with that?”
Though he understood perfectly why the nun was upset, Noah feigned ignorance, taking a sip of his warm coffee, his mockery palpable.
“…”
The nun, rendered speechless by Noah’s antics, pressed her hands to her head and averted her gaze to the ground.
How foolish she had been to worry for him, only to find that he had gone off to buy coffee for himself.
How infuriating! If only she had ignored him!
“Hey, nun, don’t always look so worked up. How about a sip of coffee?”
Noah, deliberately trying to provoke her, extended the cup he had taken a few sips from. It seemed like a sweet gesture, but upon reflection, it felt more like he was trying to placate a child.
“…I don’t want your half-drunk coffee! I find you repulsive, so buy me a new cup—make it the most expensive, top-tier one!”
Setting down her hand that had been pressed against her throbbing head, the nun bluntly expressed her disdain, glaring fiercely at Noah’s face.
She spoke to Noah with a tone that seemed to carry the weight of deep-seated grudges, presenting a request that, in truth, was not difficult at all.
“Ha, that’s no problem. I actually intended to invite you, Sister, to taste it.”
Unfazed by the Sister’s evident displeasure—her expression screaming, ‘I am not happy right now!’—Noah responded with a smirk that dripped with irony, his face betraying no hint of her anger.
“Then why don’t you just call me back!”
At this, Clotilde could no longer contain herself.
Good heavens! Why didn’t you say so earlier? Why vanish without a word?
Could it be that this insufferable man actually relished the thrill of toying with her?

PS. Fourth update of the day! More tomorrow!
(Thanks to the readers for their concern. I’ve actually been a night owl for quite some time now, so my rest isn’t too bad. However, as I mentioned a few days ago, the update schedule has indeed been a bit hellish, and I’m working to correct that. Last night, I got a bit carried away with gaming, which is why the update is delayed until now. It’s all the game’s fault!)
