#100 - In-tribe competition

Chapter 100: Clan Tournament - Challenge Round

The rules of the challenge were simple, not much different from the usual disputes between clan members that escalated into fights.

The only differences were that their weapons were replaced with blunted versions, and weapons like spiked maces, which had greater destructive power, were prohibited from the arena. There were no other rules.

Since the hobgoblins had thick skin and tough flesh, and with Allen watching from the sidelines, there was no need to worry about overly bloody scenes.

The first match was a battle between the hobgoblin Gou'dan (Dog-egg) and the earth goblin Ma Luo. Although earth goblins were physically weaker than hobgoblins, their warrior level generally stabilized between 4-5 after adulthood, not a significant difference from hobgoblins, allowing them to participate in this challenge.

Of course, Allen had arranged this intentionally. They were about to attack an earth goblin settlement, and if all went well, the number of earth goblins in the clan would soon increase. To help them integrate into the clan more quickly, Allen needed to demonstrate that the clan treated goblins of all types equally.

However, truly treating everyone equally was impossible. In the wilderness, strength always spoke loudest.

However, when introducing the names of the clan members, Allen felt somewhat embarrassed. After studying the common language for more than half a year, having barely achieved literacy, Allen had developed some taste.

Most of the clan members had names that were common things found in the wilderness: Da Shan (Big Mountain), Hua She (Flower Snake), Cha Hua (Camellia)… But look at the earth goblins and goblins; although they were not as strong as the hobgoblins, their naming art was much better: Ma Luo, Ba Te Luo (Bartolo), Bei Nuo (Beno)… They sounded very classy.

Alas, all this was caused by ignorance. Allen secretly resolved in his heart that the names of the clan's children must be chosen by him in the future. Otherwise, if the tribe really rose to power and a great legendary professional was born, it would be utterly embarrassing if his name was 'Pan Shi Zhi Dun Gou Dan (Dog-egg, Shield of Stone)' or 'Bei Shang Zhi Zhao Ye Ji (Pheasant, Claw of Sorrow)'!

Fortunately, he had a cultured mother. Although the name Allen was a bit common, at least it was presentable.

The hobgoblin Gou'dan was burly and muscular, with bulging muscles all over his body. His chest muscles were even larger than some females' breasts, but this was standard for hobgoblins. The clan members watching showed no reaction to Gou'dan's display of muscles. Standing opposite him, Ma Luo's body appeared more well-proportioned. His muscles were also strong, but not as visually imposing as Gou'dan's, reflecting the earth goblin's weaker physique.

"Begin!!"

Allen waved a branch between the two, and a duel began.

Gou'dan, holding an ironwood club, charged straight forward like an unbridled rhinoceros, leaving himself wide open but not caring. He was confident that he could withstand Ma Luo's attack, but the opponent could not withstand his full-force blow.

Ma Luo held a blunted sword. He didn't have the strength of a hobgoblin and couldn't wield a 20-pound ironwood club as a regular weapon without strain, so he chose a sword, which was more lethal in combat. He wasn't intimidated by Gou'dan charging straight at him. He suddenly took small steps and quickly accelerated to his maximum speed, but he charged diagonally to the right.

To keep up with Ma Luo's pace and inflict heavy damage, Gou'dan had to change direction, but his change of direction was clumsy, and his speed gradually slowed down. Hobgoblins' strength and muscles were their strengths, but because their muscles were too developed, they had great limitations in flexibility. Except for talented clan members like Allen and Hua She, the rest basically had this problem.

Ma Luo seized this weakness of the hobgoblins, maximizing the earth goblins' exceptional flexibility. He didn't engage in a head-on confrontation with Gou'dan, but sought to exploit the opponent's weaknesses while moving around, delivering a fatal blow.

Having participated in this challenge, Ma Luo also hoped to achieve good results. He was originally a member of the wilderness, but their tribe was too close to the territory of the Elf Kingdom, so adventurers discovered their settlement's location and captured them while Ma Luo and others were out hunting, selling them to the slave merchants at a low price.

Later, Allen bought them and brought them to the Greenwood Tribe.

Ma Luo had considered going back, but he was just a low-level warrior who had just broken through level 6 not long ago. Allen and the others had spent nearly two months traveling here, and he simply couldn't walk back to his hometown on his own. So, in the end, Ma Luo settled down and lived in Greenwood. Although this village was dominated by hobgoblins, there was plenty of food, and the patriarch was not a cruel and tyrannical person. Ma Luo's life was stable and even better than in his original hometown.

Ma Luo spared no effort, circling around Gou'dan, never entering Gou'dan's attack range. Fortunately, the arena was not small, allowing him to move without worry.

Gou'dan was also anxious, wildly waving the ironwood club in his hand, raising a cloud of dust. It was a pity that his movements were slow, and even if he wanted to catch up with Ma Luo's pace, it was futile, instead making himself dizzy and sweating on his face.

Later, Gou'dan simply ignored Ma Luo's circling, directly resting the wooden club on his shoulder, only moving his head, staring at Ma Luo's movements, seeing how long he planned to circle.

Gou'dan thought he had succeeded, but he was actually within Ma Luo's calculations. When Gou'dan felt tired and stopped moving his body, it was the moment for Ma Luo to attack. Gou'dan's head was indeed constantly moving, staring at Ma Luo's movements, but this head movement ultimately had blind spots. Ma Luo continued to circle a few more times, creating inertial thinking for Gou'dan, and then suddenly disappeared from Gou'dan's sight.

By the time Gou'dan reacted, turning his body to find the opponent's figure, the opponent had broken through to Gou'dan's close position in the short time of a few breaths, slashing hard at the bend of Gou'dan's right leg. Although the blades on both sides of the sword had been blunted, the earth goblin's strength was still not small, immediately causing Gou'dan's right leg to bend forward, kneeling on one knee on the stone brick.

After injuring Gou'dan, Ma Luo didn't hesitate, jumping out of Gou'dan's attack range in two large leaps, not giving Gou'dan a chance to vent his anger.

The rest was simple. The already clumsy Gou'dan, now with an injured right leg, was even more inconvenient to move, and was worn down by Ma Luo, leaving countless cyan and purple scars on his body from the blunted sword.

Seeing that Gou'dan had no chance of winning, Allen immediately announced that Ma Luo was the victor of this battle.

Afterwards, Gou'dan was very dissatisfied with Ma Luo's tactics and wanted to challenge Ma Luo again to get his revenge, but after Allen instructed Da Shan to teach Gou'dan a hard lesson, Gou'dan finally became honest.
