Green Monster Epic

#115 - Assassin, Night

Nathan desperately wanted to tear apart the bastard who had caused his tribe to split. The Ivan tribe had once been a great one, boasting a full hundred members at its peak, which was a large number for a hyper-werewolf tribe. However, because Boban's advancement coincided with Nathan's, the two had engaged in a fierce battle for the position of chieftain, ultimately ending in a draw.

The previous chieftain had died in an ambush in the wilderness, and no one knew who the attackers were. This had made the power struggle within the Ivan tribe even more intense. The two rivals refused to yield to each other, yet neither could gain the upper hand. The final result was that each of them led a group of tribesmen, settling at opposite ends of the original Ivan tribe's territory, becoming two hostile neighbors.

Several years had passed, but the two tribes still hadn't determined a victor, leaving Nathan feeling uneasy even in his sleep.

Tonight was no different. He had spent over an hour on a female jackalwere, using every technique he knew to finally vent his pent-up anger. Exhausted, Nathan didn't even notice the overpowering smell of hormones in the cave. He embraced the female he had abused so severely and fell asleep.

The female didn't dare struggle, fearing that she might anger Nathan and suffer the consequences. She timidly nestled against Nathan's chest, which was filled with male hormones. Just as she was feeling drowsy and about to close her eyes, she suddenly noticed that something in the room seemed different.

She couldn't quite put her finger on what it was, but when she opened her eyes and tried to get a good look, a shadowy figure materialized, slowly revealing itself in front of Nathan and her on the earthen bed in their cave.

"Shh!"

The figure, now fully visible, put a finger to its lips in a silencing gesture. Seeing that the figure's right hand was already on Nathan's neck, holding a gleaming dagger, the female rationally closed her mouth, which had been about to raise an alarm. Instead, she quietly scratched Nathan's stomach with her claws, hoping to rouse him.

"Settle down!"

Nathan, with his eyes closed, stopped the restless claws of the female in his arms with his hand, muttering a few words.

It wasn't until a cold sensation stimulated his neck, the metallic scent instantly bringing Nathan back to his senses. He opened his eyes and immediately turned over, wanting to grab the weapon placed by the bed, but a sharp pain instantly dispelled that thought.

"Chieftain Nathan, don't do anything that might make me misunderstand, or I can't guarantee that the treasure in my hand won't slit your throat."

A familiar voice rang out. When Nathan heard this and stopped moving, raising his head, he saw Ye's dog-like face, somewhat similar to that of a jackalwere, before him.

The Kiss of the Viper had already lightly broken the skin on his neck, and scarlet blood slowly seeped from the wound, warning Nathan that the other party wouldn't hesitate.

"Who are you? How did you get into my house?"

Nathan's eyes were filled with shock and fear, but he tried to maintain a calm facade.

"Me? I'm just a guest who wants to pay a visit to Chief Nathan. Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Ye Shatter-Bone, the chieftain of the Shattered Bone tribe in Lin Valley, 70 miles north of your tribe."

Ye's eyes were playful, and as he became more familiar with his skills after his advancement, he seemed increasingly confident.

"A guest? Is this how a guest greets his host?"

Nathan frowned, pointing to the dagger on his neck.

"Well, isn't it because I was worried that Chief Nathan might be a little unfriendly to this guest?"

Jackalweres were known for their ferocity, and anyone like Ye who dared to visit their leader alone would likely end up as food, unless they possessed extraordinary strength. This was why the Shattered Bones had waited until Ye's injuries had healed before sending him on this mission.

"Also, the reason I've come to visit Chief Nathan is to invite you to be a guest at my Shattered Bone tribe. My tribe has joyous news to share with Chief Nathan, and I assure you it will be a worthwhile trip."

"Of course, if Chief Nathan lacks the courage, that's fine too. I've also invited Chief Boban from your neighboring tribe. I suspect he might be bolder than Chief Nathan."

Nathan was silent. He had originally wanted to flatly refuse the invitation. Their two tribes had been neighbors for decades, and aside from the usual disputes and struggles, there had been little communication. Now that the other party had suddenly come to his door, no one could imagine anything good would come of it.

However, now he was at the mercy of the other party, a prisoner on the chopping block. If he didn't agree, he might lose his head. And when he heard the dog-headed man mention Boban's name, his wavering heart immediately made a decision: "Alright, I'll see what good news Chieftain Ye has for me."

"Then I'll be expecting Chief Nathan's arrival at the Shattered Bone tribe in three days."

Ye patted Nathan's neck and then withdrew the dagger. Just as he was about to sneak away, he suddenly turned back and said something to Nathan, who was about to raise an alarm, causing him to panic: "Oh, I forgot to tell Chief Nathan that I've smeared some snake venom on this dagger. If the chief feels anything unusual, it's best to find some antidote herbs to take now, or the chief might suffer some skin and flesh wounds."

"Hmph!"

Only managing to give Ye, this uninvited guest, a weak threatening look, Nathan began to get up and go to his collection room to find medicine.

After Nathan drank the medicine and detoxified himself, he turned back to look for Ye, but the other party had disappeared as quietly as he had come. Only then did Nathan have time to let out a long, shrill howl, alarming dozens of tribesmen who hurriedly got up and, at his command, turned the entire tribe's grounds upside down, but they couldn't find the dog-headed man who had caused him to lose face.

Less than a day later, the same scene was repeated, except that the object Ye was now holding hostage had become a mountain of flesh, a strong ogre. The ogre, whose height alone was two times Ye's, put a lot of pressure on him as he sat up. The Kiss of the Viper in his hand, placed on the ogre's neck, which was covered in layers of fat, was like a toothpick, without much deterrent force at all.

After finding a vital spot again, placing the dagger at the location of the ogre's giant stone eye, Ye, half-crouched on the other party's head, felt a bit safer and began to introduce himself.

"I am…"

The ogre, Boulder, didn't understand the situation at all. He didn't feel any sense of danger from the toothpick in the hand of the little bug on his head.

"Boulder is very hungry, Boulder needs food, more food."

Ogres had huge appetites, and they spent almost all their time each day searching for food and eating. Now, after being awakened by Ye, Boulder instinctively covered his stomach and shouted.

At the same time, his large hands reached directly for the little bug on his head, not caring at all about the dagger pointed at his eye.
