#132 - The joy of harvest

Chapter 132: The Joy of Harvest

The arrival of a new year meant nothing to the natives of the wilderness. Perhaps the civilized races of the northern and southern continents of the wilderness would hold various festivals and events to celebrate the New Year, but the wilderness natives continued to struggle for survival as always.

The Month of Thawing Ice was the second month after the New Year, a concept that the races of the Frosty Wilderness barely grasped, but for the Green Field Tribe, this month marked the start of their second oat harvest since the new year.

The biggest flaw of the Mansha Wilderness, in the eyes of the human farmer Jem, had become the best gift bestowed by heaven. The wilderness, with only one season throughout the year, meant that there was basically no dormancy period for plant growth.

This meant that cultivating crops in the wilderness did not require consideration of solar terms or climate. As long as the soil was fertile enough and the cultivators were diligent enough, crops suitable for the climate could be planted at any time of the year.

This was the second oat harvest. Compared to the first harvest, which only covered a meager dozen acres, Allen had boldly reclaimed a hundred acres of fertile land by Green Lake for this second season of oat planting, cultivating oats on a large scale.

Fearing that there would not be enough oat seeds, Allen had sealed up the oats harvested in the first season and invested them all in the second season of oat planting before handing over the remaining grain to Tea Blossom to make food for the tribe to eat.

As the harvest season approached, the sky was filled with flying thieves. Taking advantage of the Green Field villagers' inattention, they plunged into the oat fields, chirping as they pecked at the grains on the ears of wheat, then flew into the sky in a swarm, driven away by the specially assigned goblins.

"These damned thieves!!"

It had rained just yesterday, and the wilderness was unlikely to see rain again in the short term. Allen planned to take this opportunity to call on the strong laborers of the tribe to harvest all the oats on these hundred acres of land in one go. Otherwise, if the birds in the sky and the sand rats on the ground were allowed to continue to wreak havoc, there would be even less of these hard-grown oats left for the Green Field tribesmen.

Allen wished he could wipe out all these cunning and gluttonous creatures in the sky in one fell swoop, but that could only be a fantasy. He couldn't fly, he couldn't shoot arrows, and he didn't know magical magic, so he could only watch helplessly from below, grumbling.

"Let's strive to harvest all the grain today and dry it and store it before the next rainy day arrives."

For this harvest, Allen had suspended the hunting team's hunting for the day. All the warriors were gathered in the field, waiting for his command before the tribesmen began harvesting.

"Alright!!"

The tribesmen were also excited. A hundred acres of grain was a spectacular sight. A gentle breeze blew through the ears of wheat, and the undulating waves of wheat, accompanied by the rustling sound and the faint fragrance of grain, filled the hearts of the tribesmen, who had spent the first half of their lives fighting hunger, with a sense of pride.

Look, this is the future of our Green Field Tribe!!

Pava Ao, who had not been affiliated with the Green Field Tribe for long, was also in an unsettled mood. If their tribe had had such a harvest back then, how happy that would have been. Seeing the heartfelt smiles on the faces of his former tribesmen, Pava Ao suddenly felt that he might have been somewhat incompetent back then.

"Get to work!!"

Allen, stripped to the waist, revealing his muscular body and several indelible burn scars, was the first to bend down, wielding the scythe temporarily cobbled together by Jem, and began to work hard in the field.

There were now nearly 40 adult males in the tribe, not counting the small goblin males. In Allen's eyes, although these goblins had a certain improvement in status, they were ultimately not the backbone of the tribe. But when it came to harvesting oats, Allen discovered that the small goblins were much more relaxed than their tall and strong counterparts, and they did not do less work than them.

Allen and the others had to lower their heads, bend their backs, and bury themselves under the ears of wheat to cut them off at the roots, so as to facilitate replanting in the next year; while the goblins didn't even need to bend over, just lower their heads slightly, and they could easily do what Allen and the others could only do with great effort. After a long time, the big goblins and bear goblins who were harvesting wheat for the first time felt their backs ache and their heads dizzy, while the goblins only broke out in a thin layer of sweat.

No matter how weak the goblins were, they were at least level 1-2 warriors after adulthood, and their physical strength was not as不堪 as imagined. At least this bit of work was not difficult for them at all.

"Huh?"

Allen once again discovered the advantages of the goblins. Don't look at him exercising every day, with his muscles bulging, but after bending over for so long, he also felt a little overwhelmed. When he stood up to stretch, he happened to see that on the ground assigned to the goblins, piles of neat oat stacks extended out, which was comparable to the work done by Allen and the others.

"Not bad, maybe these tasks can be handed over to them in the future, so that they can make the most of their advantages."

Paying attention to the planting of oats made Allen understand that oats need to be fertilized and weeded frequently during growth to ensure a good harvest half a year later. And most of these farm works do not require much physical strength, so it is just right to hand them over to the goblins.

"Well, I actually thought so too, and I was just about to suggest it to you."

Philip nodded, echoing Allen's statement.

Allen looked back, and patches of oats fell down. When the ears of wheat were shelled and the grains in the ears were recovered, their tribe would have food for the next half year, and they would not have to rely on God for food.

With food in hand, one would not panic. When they discovered some wandering goblin tribes or a certain goblin settlement, whether they wanted to absorb them or what to do, Allen and the others would be more confident.

Allen's originally good mood suddenly turned somewhat bad when he saw several figures in the bushes by the lake.

"Who are those lazy people over there? Remember their names and punish them as they should be punished! Punish them severely!!"

Allen didn't make a sound first, but instructed Philip on the side, and then put down his sickle and walked to the figures. One of them was none other than Dashan, that bastard.

"I'll kick you guys to death!!!"

Allen felt a hatred in his heart that he could not turn iron into steel. Usually during training, Dashan would find all kinds of reasons to shirk. To put it bluntly, he was just lazy to the bone. As Allen spoke, he kicked Dashan hard on his fat butt, directly kicking him several meters away.

When Dashan stood up dizzily and angrily, halfway through the words that came to his mouth, he saw Allen's face and was immediately speechless: "Which bastard kicked..."

"All you know is to be lazy all day long. Look at those bastards under you. They've all learned your ways!!"

Allen's livid face made Dashan and the others tremble slightly.

"If you TM don't harvest these 20 acres of oats today, don't even think about entering the village!!"

Allen was really angry. He pointed to the remaining oats on the side and directly assigned them to those lazy guys. Dashan looked at the dense oats and collapsed. To harvest so many oats, even if they weren't lazy, it would be dark before they finished.

"That's right, Brother Dashan, not that we're saying this, but you're too lazy now!!"

A Xiao came over, echoing Allen's words and pointing at Dashan, without any regard for their past friendship.

"Get lost!!"

Although he didn't dare to argue with Allen, Dashan was not polite to A Xiao. He immediately glared at A Xiao and scared him away.
