#133 - The guy with the tail up
Chapter 133: The Cocky Bastard
The hundred acres of oats were quickly harvested and stored in the granary thanks to the hard work of everyone in Green Field Village. Roughly calculated, these hundred acres yielded more than twenty thousand pounds of grain, meaning each acre produced over two hundred pounds of oats.
With so much grain, even after accounting for losses and processing like milling, it would be enough for the tribe to use for half a year. By the time the next batch of grain matured half a year later, the Green Field Tribe would have completely bid farewell to the troubles of hunger.
"It seems we still have to learn from you civilized societies. Farming is truly a wonderful thing!"
Allen personally supervised the grain storage. Only after watching basket after basket of grain being sent into the specially built stone castle did he feel relieved. He sealed the entrance with a brick and arranged for two tribesmen to guard it before leaving the granary.
Walking on the road, Allen was very touched and looked at Philip with envy.
"Chief, we still need to cultivate more land. After this season's harvest, the land should be left to recover for a year. Otherwise, even the most fertile soil won't withstand such frequent cultivation."
Jem received a reward from Allen and had a hundred pounds of oats stored in his home, transforming him into a veritable local tycoon. Therefore, he was even more diligent in his work. Now, after Allen had stored the grain, he made a suggestion to Allen.
"Take care of these matters and come up with a specific plan. Give it to Philip, and I'll arrange for people to cooperate with you."
Allen, with his self-awareness regarding the professional knowledge of experts, didn't interfere. He let them develop their ideas freely and only wanted to see the results. Perhaps the only change was that his attitude towards humans was getting better and better. Whether it was Jem or Boris, he would put on what he thought was a kind smile whenever he saw them.
"Okay, I've already chosen the location for the new land. Next, we just need to dig a few ditches to bring water from Green Lake, and then we can start the reclamation."
Jem had a plan in mind and pointed around earnestly as he spoke to Allen.
Philip also had something to say at this time. As his position in the tribe became more stable, although he inevitably faced刁难 from the goblins, after Allen personally taught some people a lesson, everyone outwardly showed respect for his authority. To further solidify his position and live better in the tribe, what Philip could do now was naturally to continue clinging to Allen's coattails and offer him advice.
"Before, someone suggested to me whether we should stop hunting, since our tribe doesn't lack food now. These days, everyone has to be on guard when they go out hunting, fearing that some enemies are lurking in the bushes or valleys, plotting to attack them!"
Philip's suggestion was actually the idea of most of the males in the tribe. The lazy nature of goblins began to resurface after they had plenty of food. Although their worries might be partly true, most of them just didn't want to work and just wanted to stay in the village, waiting to eat and die, living a comfortable life.
"No! The hunting can't be stopped, and the previously required task targets are not allowed to change. If anyone has complaints, tell them to come to me. I happen to have some道理 to talk with them."
Allen's face darkened, and his large hands cracked as he clenched them, making Philip and the others shudder and dare not say anything more.
"Okay."
Whether it was out of consideration for changing the inherent flaws in the tribe's nature or ensuring the tribe's bloodiness and combat effectiveness, Allen didn't think that suspending hunting was a good choice. Relying solely on daily training to hone the tribe's combat skills, from Allen's own personal experience, although it had some effect, it was still a bit lacking compared to actual combat.
"Who's leading the hunting team today?"
Mentioning this, Allen casually asked.
"Da Shan and Da Jiang went out together with their two hunting teams."
Philip was in charge of arranging the hunting shifts, so he answered without hesitation.
"Da Shan? This guy is getting more and more out of line. I need to teach him a lesson and make him restrain himself."
Hearing Da Shan's name, Allen frowned. This guy had been unreliable lately, and his style was also very lazy, but he always managed to get away with it.
"This..."
Philip hesitated.
"What? Did he offend you too?"
Allen guessed something from Philip's expression.
"Not really, it's just that I didn't tell you about some things before."
Philip's difficulty lay in the fact that the matter he was about to say was closely related to Da Shan, a leader in the tribe, so he had some concerns.
"Tell me. Your task now is to report the tribe's movements to me. If you hide something, what use are you to me?"
Allen's gaze towards Philip was a little displeased.
Seeing Allen's eyes, Philip no longer hesitated and immediately told the story about Da Shan without hesitation.
"Recently, after Da Shan's team returned from hunting, Tea Blossom and I found that the prey's bodies were always incomplete. Large prey was missing large pieces of meat from their hindquarters, and small prey would be missing arms and legs. Later, Tea Blossom asked the hunters in the tribe, and they stammered that the missing parts were all cut off by Captain Da Shan."
"Also, during daily labor, Captain Da Shan often slacks off, hiding in some shady place to rest for one or two magic hours. When arguing with him, he says he's fast and has done almost all the work he needs to do."
"..."
Philip had recorded many accounts about Da Shan. Putting aside some minor mistakes, just these relatively large problems had already caused Allen's face to change several times.
"I know about this. You go down and do your job well. I have a way to deal with this bastard."
In front of Philip, Allen suppressed his urge to kill and controlled his emotions.
"Okay."
Philip quickly patted his butt and slipped away. Allen's face was too scary at this time.
Sure enough, not long after Philip walked out, Allen's violent shouts came from the square, along with the crisp sound of a long sword colliding with stone.
"Hmph, let's see if this green skin doesn't lose a layer of skin this time!"
Philip walked on the road, a curve hanging on the corner of his mouth.
This green skin, Da Shan, had always been very rude to Philip, making Philip lose face many times, but Philip had endured it all. It wasn't until Da Shan's temper, under Philip's invisible indulgence, became so annoying that even Allen began to hate him that Philip revealed his blade and applied medicine in front of Allen.
Since he was going to do something that would offend a leader like Da Shan, he had to make it a fatal blow and never give the other party a chance to retaliate. Although Philip knew that it was impossible to take Da Shan's life with these things, he could at least frustrate the other party's arrogant arrogance.
