#134 - Trouble is coming
Chapter 134: Trouble Arrives
After being secretly plotted against, Dasha and Dajiang were leisurely walking in the wilderness. Their 12-man team hadn't encountered any decent prey. The scorching weather made Dasha impatient.
“Why don’t we find a place to hide from the sun? Why does Allen make us come out hunting in such hot weather? Is there something wrong with his head? Our tribe isn’t short of food right now, so why bother making us go back and forth in Greenwild all day long?”
Without Allen present, Dasha spoke without any restraint. Relying on his age and strength, which surpassed the other tribesmen in the team, he even complained about Allen.
“Didn’t we just rest for two hours at noon? The sun is about to set, and we haven’t caught any prey. It’ll be difficult to explain when we get back!”
Although Dajiang was equally lazy, he was a little impatient with Dasha's attitude at this point. If they didn't bring back any prey today, a lot of them would go hungry tomorrow and still have to work, which would be tough.
“What are you afraid of? Do you think that human Philip, who does the counting, would really dare to do anything to us? I’d give him two guts!”
Dasha wasn't worried at all. He had seen through Philip, the human. He was a typical case of being tough on the weak and afraid of the strong. As long as you were fierce and intimidated him a few times, he would become much more sensible.
“But what about Camellia? If she complains to the chieftain, we'll be in trouble!”
Dajiang was earnestly trying to persuade Dasha to get back on the right path of hunting. He was unlucky to be partnered with Dasha this time. All they had done for half a day was rest, rest, and rest.
“Well, she is a bit of a problem, but I'm not without a solution…”
Dasha smiled mysteriously, as if he had a brilliant plan.
“Just relax, I'll handle Camellia.”
“Okay, let’s go to the shady hill ahead and rest for another hour, then we can get home in time for dinner.”
Dasha's team members were used to his ways. After receiving the order, they didn't hesitate at all and quickly ran a few steps towards the direction Dasha pointed. On the other side, Dajiang's team members looked at Dajiang's expression. Seeing his face with a constipated expression, they nodded helplessly, then followed with secret joy. Anyway, if the task wasn't completed, the main responsibility would fall on the hunting team leaders. They weren't worried, and the goblin members were even less worried.
When it comes to slacking off and having fun, no one in the Greenwild tribe would admit defeat. Everyone was an expert.
The hill wasn't high, and the bushes at the foot of the hill grew very lush. Occasionally, there were some red and yellow ripe berries interspersed among them. The bear goblins who walked closer were a little greedy and picked the small berries and put them in their mouths, eating with relish.
Dasha looked down on these little trinkets. He found a shady place to lie down, ready to take a nap and recharge his energy. Dajiang was helpless when he saw this scene, so he had to climb to the top of the hill himself to see if there could be an unexpected gain, so that he could have something to report when he returned.
Two earth goblin members followed Dajiang. They also didn't want to collude with Dasha and wanted to harvest something to take back. Compared with the original bear goblin tribesmen of Greenwild, the earth goblin and goblin tribesmen who joined later were indeed much more diligent in their work because they were less likely to be punished for being lazy. Perhaps this was related to their past experiences. After living a good life in Greenwild, they cherished their current life even more.
After finally climbing to the top of the hill, Dajiang looked into the distance. All he saw was desolation, and he didn't see any traces of animals. Only in the bushes at the foot of the southeastern hill, a flock of birds flew up from time to time, unwilling to fall back into the bushes, flying back and forth in the air.
“It seems we’re really going back empty-handed today!”
Dajiang smiled self-deprecatingly and said helplessly to the two team members beside him.
“Captain Dasha is really going too far. Next time we partner with their hunting team, let’s split up, Captain?”
The earth goblin Zongmao glared at the disorganized team at the foot of the hill with dissatisfaction and complained.
“Well, I also think we should separate. Although the chieftain said that there might be trouble outside recently, we haven't seen any problems after so many days. Perhaps the chieftain is too careful.”
Another earth goblin nodded repeatedly, expressing his agreement.
“Let's talk about it next time!”
Dajiang was noncommittal.
“Let’s go, let’s go back. It's not safe for just the three of us to be too far away from the main team.”
“Okay.”
“Alright.”
Not long after the three of them walked down the hill, several heads popped out of the bushes where the birds had flown up earlier, peering in the direction of the hilltop.
The owners of the heads didn't look easy to provoke. Their ferocious mouths were full of sharp teeth. In particular, there were two canine teeth, more than an inch long, on each of the upper and lower jaws, exuding a chilling aura. Similar in appearance to gnolls, but with a more rugged and burly physique, they were naturally the jackals, one of the three major races in the wilderness.
“Heh heh, children, it’s time to show the heroic spirit of our Yifan tribe of jackals!”
The leader of the jackals was Nason, the leader of the Yifan tribe who had been invited by Night of the Shattered Bones tribe to meet with the Shattered Bones. At this time, he was hiding at the leeward side of the hill with more than 20 tribesmen, finally waiting for their target to relax.
Nason had been staring at Dasha and his group for more than 3 hours. Earlier, he had sent out scouts to investigate the direction of the bear goblins' progress, and then Nason ambushed them behind this hill that the other party was passing through. However, what Nason didn't expect was that the other party would cooperate so well, resting on the back of the hill where they were ambushing, which gave them even greater convenience to launch an attack.
“Charge!!!”
Climbing to the top of the hill didn't cost Nason's team much energy. At this time, the jackal team, which was condescending and downwind, waved the spears and maces in their hands after Nason waved his hand, and began their charge down the gentle slope like wild horses.
“Hey, did you hear any noise?”
At the foot of the hill, Dajiang, who was about to take a nap, felt a dull sound coming from the ground, slowly approaching from afar. He raised his ears, still with some suspicion, and asked the earth goblin Zongmao beside him.
“It sounds like there’s some movement.”
The earth goblin also noticed the situation, looked around, and finally, when he looked back at the top of the hill, his eyes suddenly straightened, and then he screamed loudly: “Jackals!!! The jackals are attacking!!!”
