Green Monster Epic
#145 - Except for one patient
On the way back, Flower Snake finally spoke to Allen when they were alone.
"Why do you insist on wooing these gnolls? You know they've always been very xenophobic."
"Why not? Right now, it's Boban, this gnoll, who owes us a favor and accepted our help to ascend to the position of leader. Shouldn't we seize this opportunity to pull him over to our side, instead of waiting for Bonecrusher to play tricks again, pull him into the kobold camp, and cause trouble for us?"
Allen retorted. In fact, when Boban and Nason fought to determine the victor, Allen had already felt a surge of murderous intent, wanting to eliminate Boban directly.
But then he thought about it. Boban's brain wasn't particularly clever, and since he and Allen had a good start, according to the gnolls' inherently xenophobic nature, he wouldn't be used by the kobolds to deal with his own tribe again. Instead, Allen could use the relationship with the gnolls to slowly cultivate a bond, and then when the opportunity came one day, Allen could pull the gnolls together to directly erase the Thornwood Tribe, this thorn in his side, from the Greenwild Plains.
Moreover, if Boban were killed now, Allen couldn't guarantee that the next leader chosen by the gnolls wouldn't be hostile to the Greenwild Tribe, or even be used by Bonecrusher again to his detriment.
The seemingly comical wooing of Boban earlier was actually Allen revealing some of the Greenwild Tribe's trump cards. Sufficient food, surplus armor, etc., and even Allen's fight with Bonecrusher, was Allen implicitly telling Boban that the Greenwild Tribe could provide the things that the opposing Bonecrusher Tribe could offer. In the end, the gnolls would have to think more carefully about where they would go.
Even if Boban couldn't regain tribal power and become the leader, having been exiled once before, he wouldn't be able to gain a foothold in the tribe, and wouldn't pose any threat to the Greenwild Tribe.
"Oh, I see."
After resolving the doubts in her heart, Flower Snake had no other questions. On the way, she reminisced about the fighting moves and skills from before, unconsciously waving the sword-dagger in her hand, using the travel time to reflect on the flaws in her self-created skills and the problems that arose during the battle.
The journey home was uneventful. Even when Allen and Flower Snake returned to the village, they didn't attract much attention, except for Phillip, Camellia, and A'Xiao.
"How was it? How was it? Did you make the gnolls suffer?"
Camellia, upholding the spirit of gossip, grabbed Flower Snake and began to interrogate her. She wanted to get close to Allen, but Allen's attitude towards her was friendly but somewhat distant, never allowing her to have physical contact with him. Over time, Camellia could only admire Allen from afar.
"Is there even a need to ask? With our chieftain taking action, everything is a matter of course!"
A'Xiao flattered Allen, and as Allen approached home, he didn't forget to hurry forward a few steps to open the wooden door for Allen, making it easier for him to enter.
"Yes, not bad."
Flower Snake's words were concise, three words were enough to explain everything.
"That's it?"
Camellia was stunned.
"It's more than just that. This time we've completely resolved the gnoll threat."
Allen added softly.
"I knew it, is there anything that our chieftain can't accomplish?"
A'Xiao had a look of "I expected it all along" on his face, carefully handed Allen a glass of water, and then, looking worshipful, continued to ask, "Chieftain, tell us, how did you guys deal with the gnolls this time? How many of them did you kill?"
Allen took a sip of water to moisten his throat, and began to elaborate, enjoying the attention: "This time, we were lucky. The gnoll tribe had just annexed another group of gnolls, and then..."
"Wow!!"
A'Xiao repeatedly made surprised gestures, making Allen's somewhat dry narration more vivid and engaging, while also stirring the emotions of the others, who all listened to Allen's story with pride.
"So, does that mean that not only will this gnoll tribe no longer cause us trouble, but perhaps in the future, they will join forces with us to deal with the kobolds in the northeast?"
While everyone else was still immersed in how many people Allen and Flower Snake had killed, Phillip raised his eyebrows slightly and asked Allen with a hint of surprise, confirming his own thoughts.
"Yes, that's what I was thinking, so I spared the life of that gnoll named Boban."
Allen nodded, confirming Phillip's thoughts.
"Then your trip was very fruitful!!"
Phillip sincerely cheered for Allen and their trip.
"It's just a pity that Boban's character is too stubborn. If we could have persuaded him to lean towards our tribe at that time, then we would have more confidence in facing the Bonecrusher Tribe in the future."
Allen felt regret that he hadn't received a positive response from Boban. Although the gnoll tribe now seemed to pose no threat, even if Boban wanted to lean towards Bonecrusher, after losing more than 20 elite warriors, the gnoll tribe's warriors would only be able to maintain self-preservation.
"Nothing is perfect. Don't you think these gains are already very unexpected?"
"That's true."
Allen shook his head and then took another satisfied sip of water.
"Has anything happened in the tribe these past few days?"
With the gnoll matter coming to an end, Allen turned his attention back to the village. They had been gone for 4-5 days, and Allen was worried that other powerful enemies might have attacked.
"We listened to you, chieftain. During the days you were away, we kept the village closed, and no one went out. We haven't even taken care of the crops outside the village yet!"
Hearing Allen's question, Camellia quickly sat up straight and answered Allen's question seriously. Just now, she had been lying on the table with a infatuated look, gazing at Allen, the chieftain, and the more she looked, the more she felt that the chieftain was wise and martial, a good match. She almost drooled.
Camellia's embarrassment could not escape Allen's eyes, but he would not take up the matter. Camellia could be considered beautiful among the bearmen, but Allen's own aesthetic had been distorted by the human faces in his dreams. He really couldn't stand the sight of a furry, voluptuous bearmen female posing in front of him, so he had always kept his distance from Camellia.
"Well, what about Dahan? How is his body?"
Allen suddenly asked about Dahan, who had been injured internally by his sword. After all, this guy was a rare fighting force in the tribe, and it would be a pity if he were killed or crippled.
"Oh, after drinking a bottle of healing potion, he can now walk on the ground. It looks like he will recover in a few days."
Camellia continued to answer. These things were within her management scope, and when she mentioned Dahan, she thought of something and quickly reported to Allen: "Chieftain, there's something I need to tell you. Our tribe's healing potions are running out. Now, when people get sick, they all go to those three earthspirit elders to grab some herbs to eat."
"However, although these herbs are effective, they are not as effective as healing potions, especially for external injuries that have drawn blood."
"Well, I know about this."
Allen nodded.
The healing potions in the tribe were all purchased by Allen when they went to Thornsburg last time. It should be time to replenish them after nearly half a year.
