Harry Potter and the Candy Factory
#96 - Welcome to Wizarding America
After saying all of this, Andrei seemed to realize something, and a hint of worry suddenly appeared on his face.
"Mr. Black… …"
He paused for a moment, then looked at Charlie in the driver's seat and asked in a weak, small voice,
"This time, when you go to the American wizarding world… …it's not just to inspect the market and have friendly exchanges with us, is it?"
Charlie listened to his words, a smile appearing on the corner of his mouth, but he didn't say anything, neither refuting nor admitting it.
"Gulp… …"
Andrei swallowed a mouthful of saliva, feeling beads of sweat involuntarily rising on his forehead again, just like that day in Mr. Black's office… …
He shifted his gaze away from Charlie, closed his mouth, and lowered his head, staring at the plush carpet covering the car's floor, seemingly lost in thought.
For a time, the atmosphere in the car, which had been relatively peaceful, was filled with an awkward silence.
"Rest assured… …"
Finally, just as Andrei's thoughts began to wander with the silence, making him increasingly frightened, Charlie finally spoke.
His tone didn't change in the slightest, and the way he spoke was still as gentle and relaxed as before.
"Nothing will happen… …After all, I still need to do business in your country, how could I do anything irrational at this time?"
As he spoke, he stared straight ahead at the asphalt road. At this moment, there were no obstructions in Charlie's vision, only a vast and empty expanse.
He slowly pressed down on the accelerator, and with the faint roar of the engine, the strong sense of acceleration instantly interrupted Andrei's thoughts as he was about to ponder the meaning of Charlie's words.
"Buzz!!!!!"
Inside the car, the speedometer needle began to spin upwards at an extremely fast speed, covering most of the dial. Moreover, with the modification and assistance of magic, the power was even more abundant than before.
Andrei suddenly raised his head, looking at everything rushing past him, his eyes widening subconsciously, his breath catching in his throat.
"Oh, right… …"
Charlie gripped the steering wheel with both hands, turning his head slightly towards the passenger seat, where Andrei was, and asked,
"How should we get there?"
Obviously, compared to Charlie, who was accustomed to speeding, Andrei was clearly not able to adapt to this feeling of rapid speed.
Although he envied Charlie for having a magical car, as a wizard, he didn't actually have many opportunities to ride in one.
After all, such Muggle things were strictly prohibited in America, and apparating was obviously much more convenient than a car.
Andrei reached out, clutching his heart, which was about to jump out of his chest, and subconsciously replied.
"Port… … Portkey!!!"
"Where's the Portkey?"
Helpless, Charlie could only slow down slightly, and after the other party had recovered for a moment, he continued to ask,
"It seems… …to be in… …Liverpool," Andrei said intermittently, gasping for breath.
"We… …should probably… slow… …"
"Liverpool, that's not too far… …"
Charlie muttered to himself. After hearing the key information Andrei said, he ignored the rest of his words and then flicked a dial at hand.
The car, which had been running smoothly, began to gradually sway, eventually floating up and flying into the distance.
… … … … … … … … … … … …
Soon, after the car landed smoothly, the door opened.
Andrei, his face pale with fright, staggered out of the passenger seat.
As a result, he had not even taken two steps when, with a thud, he knelt on the ground and began to vomit violently.
"Ugh!!! Ugh——ugh."
"Are… …you okay, Andrei?"
Charlie quickly got out of the car as well, walked a few steps to Andrei's side, and patted him on the back considerately while asking carefully.
"I… …"
Andrei subconsciously turned his head to look at Charlie, the resentment in his eyes almost solidified at this moment.
However, just as he opened his mouth to say something, his face suddenly changed again, and he turned his head again and vomited violently.
"Ugh!!!"
"Tsk… …"
Seeing Andrei in this state, even Charlie couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed.
He raised his hand, his ring flashed, and he conveniently sent his wand into his hand.
"Well, although I don't know if this will work, it's better than doing nothing, right?"
Charlie grinned and said softly, not knowing whether he was talking to Andrei or talking to himself.
Then, he gently pinched his wrist holding the wand and slowly swayed it in the air.
"VULNERA SANENTUR!!! (Heal quickly!)"
The spell was spoken from his mouth, and when the last symbol fell, a faint green light enveloped the tip of the wand.
With a "buzz", a gentle force began to spread outwards, enveloping Andrei's body, and slowly dissipated after a long time.
"Hoo… …"
Andrei stopped vomiting and breathed a sigh of relief weakly.
"How is it, did it work?" Charlie quickly stretched out his other arm, helped Andrei up again, and asked.
"Not at all… …"
Andrei's legs were still trembling faintly, and he could barely stand up from the ground leaning on Charlie's arm.
The resentful look in his eyes had not yet receded, and he continued to say,
"I only had a fried egg and two slices of toast for breakfast today… …and now it's all gone."
Having said this, a look of discomfort seemed to reappear on his face, and he subconsciously opened his mouth again, retching.
It seemed he had indeed thrown up everything. After retching for a while, nothing else came up from his throat.
"Mr. Black..."
Andrei's hand trembled as he took out a white handkerchief from his pocket, wiped away the unidentified substance from the corner of his mouth, and continued,
"I take back what I just said, and from today on, I'm adding two more lines to my forbidden list."
"What?" Charlie raised his eyebrows slightly, instinctively asking.
"First, I will never ride in a car again. Second, I will never travel with you again..."
...
To express his apology, Charlie wasn't cruel enough to rush Andrei straight to America. Instead, he found a nice little shop to allow him to rest for a while.
"Actually, I always thought English food was terrible..."
Sitting in an exquisite wicker chair, Andrei looked at the people walking on the street outside, picking up the last cherry from the plate in front of him and putting it in his mouth, as he couldn't help but say to Charlie.
His complexion finally had some color, turning a little rosy, no longer as pale as when he first got out of the car.
"Have you been to England before?"
Charlie leaned comfortably against the soft cushion behind him, casually picked up a soft roll, took a bite, and asked.
"No..."
Andrei first shook his head, then picked up his coffee cup and drank the last bit of cappuccino. He then continued,
"This is my first time in England."
"When you come next time, I can take you around to have some fun."
After finishing the last bite of the soft roll, Charlie picked up a napkin, casually wiped the few crumbs from his fingertips, and stood up.
"If there's a chance."
Andrei exhaled a breath of turbid air and also stood up, casually taking out a twenty-dollar bill from his pocket and gently placing it under the white porcelain plate.
...
After several twists and turns, Charlie followed Andrei into a dark and dirty alley.
"Why do you have to hide the portkey in a place like this?"
Charlie looked down at the large gray rat running quickly along the corner of the wall and said silently.
"This is the result of negotiations between the American and British magical communities. After all, as you know, we're all very afraid of Muggles."
Andrei said casually, stopping at the end of the alley. He stood there, looking at the dilapidated stone wall in front of him.
"The stone in the second row, fourth column is the portkey. I'll hold onto you when the time comes."
"I understand." Charlie didn't say much, nodded, and reached out to take Andrei's hand.
With a "buzz!" sound, when Andrei gently touched the moss-covered stone, a powerful twisting force instantly yanked Charlie up.
Before he could react, he felt a blur before his eyes, as if his belly button was hooked by something, pulling him straight forward.
After a brief moment of dizziness, Charlie's vision returned to clarity.
Andrei had disappeared, and the scene around him had instantly changed from the dirty, dark alley to a narrow cubicle.
He was sitting on a stool, and across from the stool was a long black desk for office use.
Behind the desk, a woman with long golden hair was holding a quill and writing something with her head down.
"Name."
The woman was wearing a uniform similar to that of a customs officer in the Muggle world. On her chest was embroidered a round badge of a blue eagle representing the Magical Congress of the United States of America.
"Charlie Black."
Hesitating for a moment, he looked at the empty walls around him and the white tile light above, and obediently cooperated.
"What is the purpose of your visit to America?"
"Business exchange and market research."
Charlie's expression was normal as he skillfully recited the prepared reason.
The woman looked up, curiously glancing at Charlie. She brushed her hair behind her ear and continued,
"Have you been to the American magical community before?"
"First time."
"Then your wand hasn't been registered either, has it?"
"That's right... Do you need me to give it to you now?" Charlie said, silently taking out his wand from the inside of his coat and handing it over.
"Someone will come to inspect your belongings in a moment. You just need to sign this form..."
"Thank you."
...
Perhaps it was indeed because he came back with Andrei, but after the woman left, the person who came in next didn't make things too difficult for Charlie. After casually inventorying his belongings, they marked the wand and returned it to Charlie.
"Welcome to the American magical community."
Along with the other party's procedural greeting, Charlie stood up from his seat and slowly walked out of the narrow cubicle through the small door that opened behind him.
When he stepped out, the scene before him suddenly opened up. The spacious hall was much brighter and quieter than the British Ministry of Magic.
"Over here! Mr. Black!"
Not far away, Andrei waved to him excitedly, with a bright smile on his face.
"Welcome to the American magical community!"
He repeated what the inspector had just said to Charlie, but Andrei was much more sincere than the former.
