Harry Potter and the Candy Factory
#97 - Ebbingdale Wizardry
Perhaps it was because he had returned to his hometown, but the moment Andre stepped out of the Woolworth Building, where the Magical Congress was located, his entire mental state seemed to have improved dramatically. A quick Google search showed that even the expression on his face was more relaxed and gentle than when he was in England.
He strode forward, half-turning his head to introduce the various characteristics and situations of the American magical world to Charlie.
It was evident that even when Andre spoke about the American magical world to Charlie in the car, he didn't express much pride, but rather complained and disdained it. Complaining about its strictness and disdaining its rigidity.
However, now that he had finally returned, the deep-seated affection for this place where he had lived for decades was unconsciously revealed through his body language, demeanor, and various other aspects.
Matching the other's pace, Charlie followed behind Andre at a leisurely pace. From the moment he walked out of the Woolworth Building, his eyes had been scanning everything around Broadway in New York. From the towering buildings to the leisurely strolling pedestrians, everything was taken in at once.
Charlie felt a sense of wonder towards this place, which was obviously tinged with a bit of exoticism.
He really didn't expect that the Magical Congress, the heart of the American magical world, would be so brazenly located on Broadway, even with a street number. Compared to the British Ministry of Magic, which was built underground and could only be entered through a telephone booth or a toilet, it was extremely conspicuous.
You should know that the American magical world's attitude towards Muggles is much more cautious than that of the British magical world!
For a moment, a great sense of absurdity and incongruity surged into Charlie's brain, causing the corners of his mouth to twitch slightly.
He could feel that the American magical world and American society, as well as Muggles, were completely intertwined. They didn't have wizarding shopping streets like Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley, nor did they have purely wizarding gathering places like Hogsmeade and Godric's Hollow. They lived like Muggles, in ordinary houses on ordinary streets.
Think about it, if you were an ordinary Muggle living in America, your neighbor in your neighborhood might be a wizard, even if he wore a blue striped suit that wasn't much different from yours every day, and like you, carried a worn briefcase, kissed his wife and children goodbye, and took the bus to work every morning.
And the building you occasionally glanced at on your way home from work, but never went into, might be an institution or shop specifically serving wizards.
And even in such a real situation, the American magical world is still the most conservative and resistant to communicating with Muggles in the world.
"How interesting," Charlie thought to himself.
However, while Charlie was lost in thought and had many associations, Andre didn't notice his changes at all. He continued to talk, gesticulating unconsciously, his voice filled with a naturalness and relaxation that he had never had in England.
"Ebbingdale Wizarding Department Store and a house-elf training school."
Suddenly, as if noticing something, Charlie's scattered gaze refocused on Andre. He raised his eyebrows and interrupted Andre, asking with some curiosity.
"Wizarding Department Store?"
"Yes, Ebbingdale Wizarding Department Store."
Obviously, Andre wasn't surprised that Charlie would be interested in the department store.
After all, as a qualified and excellent businessman, maintaining a keen awareness of new things is an indispensable basic quality.
He spread his hands, slowed down his pace slightly, changing from being in front of Charlie to walking side by side, and then began to tell Charlie in detail about some specific matters related to Ebbingdale Wizarding Department Store.
"It's almost the largest wizarding department store in the United States, and it's in New York City, not far from Broadway."
As Andre spoke, he stopped. He turned his foot and pointed in another direction, indicating.
"It's over there. If you want to go, we can go take a look now."
However, to Andre's surprise, Charlie waved his hand.
"Forget it, let's wait a while. Anyway, there's still a lot of time. After all, I'm going to live here for a long time."
Andre nodded upon hearing this and continued to lead Charlie forward.
"Actually, we are also considering Ebbingdale's Wizarding Department Store."
Although they didn't go, Andre continued to talk to Charlie about this topic as they walked.
"We plan to put more effort into Ebbingdale Wizarding Department Store and Wizarding Broadway. Focusing on taking these two places."
"Wizarding Broadway?"
Charlie felt that since arriving in the United States, his understanding had been constantly refreshed.
"What is that?"
"A place dedicated to providing performances for wizards."
Andre smiled reservedly, seemingly extremely pleased with the other's thirst for knowledge at this moment, so he generously explained again.
"Most of the time, it's some old-fashioned stage play performances, like something similar to 'The Cuckoo's Calling', 'The Casual Vacancy', and so on."
After saying this, Andre seemed to have thought of something else, his eyes lit up, and he continued to add.
"Oh, right! In addition to these old plays, Wizarding Broadway also rents out venues to famous singers and pop stars."
"Our idea is to sell our candy in that place… especially that liquor-filled one… what was it called again?"
"Icy Plum Drops," Charlie prompted.
"Right! In that situation, this kind of candy will show the best effect. Who doesn't want a little beer or candy at a concert? You know, those little wizards like the crazy feeling… they can even give everything for it."
In this way, the two chatted as they strolled along the street, heading towards the distance.
Suddenly, Charlie remembered something.
"I almost forgot to ask you, where are we going next?"
"Ah?" Andre was stunned for a moment. He scratched his head and said hesitantly.
"Didn't I tell you? Of course, we're going to our company. Our boss was extremely happy when he learned that you were coming."
Andre casually found a hidden corner with Charlie, and then the two turned around and walked in, leaving directly through Apparition…
