Hogwarts: Wizards Supreme

Chapter 239 Assessment

"Brian Foley?" the bald wizard said in a low voice.

"Yes, hello." Brian said.

"Ah, hello, I'm Phyllis Brown, the person who wrote you the invitation. I'm from the Department of Mysteries... er, the receptionist." The bald man said feebly, "Follow me, there will be two Silent Men. They will supervise your assessment...it's really strange, isn't it? They never care about anything."

Brian followed Phyllis down the long corridor. This place is completely different from the busy and noisy other places in the Ministry of Magic. It is as quiet as the bottom of a dark lake. There are no doors next to the corridor, only empty walls with calmly burning torches.

There is a simple black door at the end of the corridor, and a gap on the left leads to a downward staircase.

Phyllis opened the black door in front of her and invited Brian to walk into the black circular room inside. When Phyllis closed the door through which they entered, the hall fell into darkness, with only the faint blue cold light emitted by the chandeliers dotted on the black walls.

There were twelve identical black doors on the wall, without handles. With a rumbling sound, the circular wall rotated rapidly, and the black doors and blue flames blurred into one piece.

"This is a rotunda, just get used to it." Phyllis said with a dull look in her eyes. After the wall stopped rotating, he took out his wand and pointed it, squinted his eyes to identify the direction, and then led Brian towards the ordinary black door on the left front.

"It's really troublesome, isn't it? You have to carefully identify the road every time you come to work." Phyllis said listlessly, "The good thing is that I never get lost in other places again."

"I really don't know why you want to go into this lifeless place... I've had enough. I just want to be transferred to another department. Although it's very relaxing to stay here, obviously there aren't many things that a receptionist can do here a year. Son...but I think the Ministry of Magic may have forgotten about me..."

He was talking ramblingly, as if he was bored here, and kept saying that the silent people seemed to be creatures unable to communicate.

Brian listened patiently, and then followed Phyllis into the black door. Inside was a deep corridor, the same color as the corridor outside. People couldn't help but wonder if they had chosen the wrong door. The original route Returned.

However, there are doors on both sides of this corridor that are also black, with shabby nameplates hanging on them.

Under the leadership of Phyllis, they entered the fifth door on the right side. Inside was a small office that seemed a bit messy. There was a pile of books randomly placed on the desk, and next to it was a rotating and glowing gadget. A man was bending over to observe it carefully, with his somewhat bald head facing them.

"He's here, Crocker." Phyllis said helplessly, "The assessment will begin soon."

"Oh, right." Crocker raised his head and looked at Brian expressionlessly.

Brian smiled slightly. He recognized this man. He was a member of the Death Sect. Crocker cleared some of Blaine's loose ends when he invaded the Department of Mysteries.

Crocker looked at Brian for a moment, showing no sign of knowing him. He waved his wand, and the books on the desk flew to the bookshelf on the wall. Only a quill remained on the desk.

At this time, the door opened again, and a wizard who looked to be only in his twenties walked in, holding a roll of parchment.

"I'm Crocker West," Crocker introduced, "and this is Leonard White, assistant secretary to the division chief."

"Then, let the assessment begin." Leonard's expression was a little indifferent. He put down the parchment, which was full of test papers.

"Because you have not passed the N.E.W.T. exam at Hogwarts, you will have more things to test." Leonard said solemnly, "The first one is the theory test. Try to fill in the content you know. We will test it based on your knowledge." Use your theoretical knowledge to determine whether you have the ability to enter the Department of Mysteries..."

Brian looked at the pile of test papers in front of him and twitched the corner of his mouth.

"This is a quick-answer quill. It can quickly write the answers you know. Don't worry, it will be quick." Phyllis added.

Brian nodded, took out his wand and touched the quill on the table. The quill jumped up as if it were alive and wrote on the paper so fast that it left an afterimage.

For a moment, the small office fell into silence, with only the rustling sound of quills writing. Leonard raised his eyebrows in surprise, obviously he did not expect that Brian would know so much knowledge at his age.

Several people stood and then sat down on the chairs, Crocker began to study his little glowing thing again, Leonard's eyes were empty as if in a daze, and Phyllis yawned all day long, feeling sleepy.

Brian read the questions carefully, his brain searching quickly like a high-speed computer to sum up the most appropriate answer. More than an hour later, Brian rubbed his eyes and said, "It's done."

Leonard suddenly stood up and said: "Very good." He quickly packed up the test papers and took the lead out of the office door. Brian followed Phyllis's signal, and the four of them walked deeper into the corridor together.

Leonard opened a black door that read "Practical Assessment Room". Inside was a bright circular room with some strange machines placed around it and a large open area in the middle.

"This is a place for practical assessment. We need to test your various abilities..." Leonard said, "Including but not limited to magic spells, alchemy, potions, prophecies, etc."

"Just test it in sequence," Crocker said. "Just put your hand on the machine...if the green light comes on, it means it passed, and if the red light means it didn't pass."

Brian looked at these machines thoughtfully, looking a little weird and said: "What is the principle of this?"

"A by-product of the experiment..." Leonard said with an unchanged expression.

Brian frowned and tested each item in turn. As expected, almost all the machines turned on the green light. Only the machine representing the prophecy turned on the red light without shame.

Phyllis's eyes widened, looking extremely surprised. Crocker's eyes flashed, but he seemed to be expecting it.

Leonard narrowed his eyes and looked squarely at the little guy in front of him for the first time. He originally thought he was someone forced in by Fudge for some purpose, but he didn't expect him to be so good.

Brian blinked. He tried to use Occlumency to hide his true level, but he was still detected. Obviously, this was not a machine peeking into his brain.

"This is done by the people in the Planet Hall. The things they test are biased toward destiny." Crocker explained to Brian. "Even the aspects you know nothing about may be given a green light. The same goes for...the parts you are good at." It may also be judged not to pass.”

"But they have never made mistakes. Maybe it shows talent or future achievements..." Crocker said, "Usually, as long as one item lights up with a green light, it is considered to have passed the assessment..."

After he finished speaking, he shrugged.

Leonard nodded. He took out Brian's answer sheet, walked to a machine next to him, and threw the parchment into it.

The machine buzzed and trembled, and soon the parchment was spit out. Leonard looked through it with an increasingly weird expression.

"You did a good job..." Leonard said hoarsely after he finished flipping through the pages, "You passed the assessment."

Brian nodded. In fact, except for some very tricky and remote knowledge, he could answer all the other questions.

"Congratulations, Mr. Foley." Phyllis said with a smile, "Although I don't think this is anything to celebrate..."

Brian smiled politely, looked at Leonard and said, "Wait a moment," and then left in a hurry.

Phyllis stretched and slowly left the room, joking: "I have to go back and catch up on some sleep."

Only Brian and Crocker were left in the room. The two were silent for a while. Crocker said without expression: "I knew you would come back here, but I didn't expect it to be so soon."

"Why do you think I will come back?" Brian narrowed his eyes.

"You are destined to be inseparable from death..." Crocker said, "You are the morning star, the dawn and the dusk... There are many secrets about yourself that can only be answered here."

Brian nodded and said nothing.

Soon, Leonard came back. He took a piece of information and said, "You passed the assessment. This is your appointment letter."

"Of course, the most important thing is, are you sure you want to join the Department of Mysteries and remain silent about the secrets of this place?" he asked solemnly.
