Stupid Odin
#19 - Creation in Seven Days (Part 2)
Thors bestowed upon these mortals life and soul, Odin granted them reason and appearance, Vili endowed them with loyalty and movement, and Borr gave them language.
Thus, the first ancestors of humankind were born.
To the surprise of the gods other than Thors, many worm-like creatures grew on the earth formed from the bodies of the two giants.
When Thors, having nothing better to do, bestowed spirituality upon them, some of these creatures, seemingly worms but actually similar to silkworms, transformed into beautiful light elves under the sunlight.
They possessed gorgeous and slender bodies, as well as dazzling appearances, and were immediately loved by all the Aesir gods and giants.
They were promptly granted residence in Alfheim, responsible for serving the gods at close range.
Obviously, the worms, born from Ymir's corpse and preferring darkness, transformed into dark elves, living together with the dwarves and gnomes made by the gods from the ancestral giant.
Adding to this the fire giants who had not been completely wiped out.
The creatures of all nine small worlds in the entire Ginnungagap were basically created.
However, Thors was determined from the beginning not to treat other mortal races as mere objects of exploitation by the Aesir, as Odin did in the epics.
Even the darkest dwarven kingdom of Svartalfheim would have a month of sunlight, and even the coldest realm of the dead, Helheim, would have a month of spring.
Odin secretly remarked: "Brother, this is superfluous."
Thors shook his head: "You don't understand. As a God-King, never completely block the upward path of the lower classes. I reserved the Rainbow Bridge for the eight worlds to give the elites of these worlds a chance to ascend to Asgard and co-govern the Nine Realms with the Aesir."
Odin was clearly unconvinced: "What if those mortals multiply and one day even Asgard can't accommodate them?"
Thors' gaze transcended time and space, as if seeing the distant future.
"My foolish brother! The total amount and number of gods that a world can bear is fixed. The Aesir will eventually stop adding new gods. At that time, a 'last-place elimination system' can be implemented for the mortals who ascend."
"Last place, what system?" Odin didn't understand.
Thors did not explain further.
This World Tree was in its nascent stage, and during this period of ascent, the 'pie' was destined to grow larger and larger.
However, where there is life, there is death. Perhaps the World Tree inherently possessed the attribute of destruction.
If Thors didn't want to face Ragnarok and die together, he would most likely have to attack the unknown world opposite this world.
Before Ragnarok arrives, maintaining the relative unity of the various races of the Nine Realms is very necessary.
On the sixth day, the long night ended, and the rising sun emerged.
By the seventh day, Thors and the gods were feeling exhausted.
In fact, almost everything that needed to be done had been completed.
Thors and his two brothers could clearly feel that the will of the world was retracting their authority to transform the world.
The Aesir gods had almost completely transformed this world. If there was anything that had not been touched from beginning to end, or dared not be touched, it was only the exaggerated cow Audhumla.
Thors' gaze transcended space, looking at this huge cow that he had moved to Jotunheim.
Its size was comparable to a huge stadium that could accommodate 50,000 people.
Its movements were monotonous and repetitive, opening and closing its super-sized mouth that could swallow an Aesir god in one bite, constantly extending and retracting its thick tongue, licking the ice.
In Odin's eyes, the movements of this strange cow were undoubtedly ridiculous, and he quickly grew tired of watching: "Pah! What's so interesting about Audhumla? It might not lick out anything new even after another ten thousand years."
Thors couldn't laugh and shook his head: "No! Since it licked out Ymir in the past, and then licked out our ancestor Buri, it means you never know what it will lick out next."
"Uh..."
"Arrange manpower. I need someone to watch over Audhumla in shifts. I want to know as soon as possible when it licks out something new."
"Alright, brother, you are the God-King, you have the final say."
Odin didn't think much of it. Thors knew that this cow, which didn't distinguish between friend and foe, would probably lick out a bunch of new frost giants, mountain giants, and, most importantly, the Vanir!
Thors couldn't determine how the Vanir arrived in Ginnungagap.
Because the two versions of the Edda, the poetic and the prose, have different descriptions of the arrival of the Vanir. One version says they were licked out by the cow, while the other says they migrated over inexplicably.
Regardless of which version, it meant the beginning of a long war with the Aesir.
That was a matter for the future.
After tinkering for six days in one breath, everything in the Nine Realms was orderly and thriving.
Thors retracted his gaze and thought carefully about what other contingency plans he hadn't buried in the world.
When he was sure that he had no more omissions, he finally smiled.
The newest and most complete novels are first published on 69shu!
"On the seventh day, let's rest."
The seventh day also became Sunday, the day of rest in everyone's mouth.
The exhausted Thors prepared to return to Asgard, the divine realm reserved for him and the entire Aesir.
Just as he took his first step into the air, all intelligent beings in the Nine Realms simultaneously felt a slight tremor in their hearts.
The creator had successfully retired, and that connection originating from the deepest depths of the soul and life, like a boulder falling into water, created a wonderful resonance in the hearts of all beings in the Nine Realms.
At this moment, all beings in the Nine Realms collectively looked up, facing the direction where Thors was.
In the dark, they transcended the limits of vision and saw that radiant and majestic figure, stepping onto the Rainbow Bridge and slowly ascending to the supreme divine realm.
No one had taught them, but they uniformly shouted out prayers.
Even though they knew that the great Aesir God-King Thors Borrson would not respond to their prayers, they still fell into a common and blissful dream.
In hopeful anticipation, they heard the God-King's promise.
"Those who loyally serve the Aesir can be promoted to Asgard and share eternal life and happiness with us!"
"Strive! Fight! Prove yourselves with blood and courage!"
"Then, step onto the Rainbow Bridge—"
In the solemn proclamation, they saw a tall and majestic figure transform into a stream of light, like a rising sun, illuminating the entire Nine Realms, and finally reaching the upper divine realm of Asgard.
All the beings and things of the Nine Realms bowed down together, their movements so orderly that they seemed to form a wave.
An incomparable desire surged from the bottom of their hearts, and finally, with the language ability bestowed by Borr, they uttered their first sentence in life in unison:
"We respectfully obey the God-King's decree!"
