Stupid Odin

#18 - Creation in Seven Days (Part 1)

From the endless chaos of the outside world, space expanded. Following this, Downs, pressing on with renewed efforts, established boundaries for this world, which faintly radiated fervent joy.

Where the divine gaze reaches, that is the end of the world!

To completely isolate the world from the vast and boundless chaos, a massive amount of air was needed!

Originally, this was a rather troublesome matter, but thanks to the skulls of the two primordial giants, Ymir and Surtr, all the steps could be completed together.

After completing all of this, three days had already passed.

If the perspective could be pulled back to transcend this world, one would see a perfect spherical orb of light, radiating a blue glow, completely enveloping an incomparably huge ash tree.

This was a giant tree reaching straight to the heavens, growing from the hearts of the two progenitor giants, Ymir and Surtr, after they were dug out.

Perhaps, Downs could affectionately call it — the [World Tree]!

Inside the Jötunheimr world orb, the tender green branches of the World Tree were shimmering with light, while countless elements of earth, water, fire, and wind either floated or were fixed near the middle of the trunk, waiting for Downs to reshape them with the hand of a god.

Right at the feet of his gigantic body, the gods and giants had also watched for a full three days.

Downs, using the corner of his eye, glanced at Odin, who was itching in his heart but dared not speak, and laughed: "My divine brother! Won't you come and give your big brother a hand?"

Odin was overjoyed: "How can I help?"

His third brother, Vili, also nodded excitedly.

Downs looked around: "Help me drain the excess water in this world into the Jötunheimr abyss."

"Ah? How do we do that?"

"You have inherited some of Ymir's power, just imagine in your mind that there is a gale blowing the water over there."

"Okay!"

After Ymir's death, with the dissipation of his origin, a world-destroying flood was unleashed. Surtr was not to be outdone; his corpse caused the temperature of the entire world to rise steadily.

In the epic [Edda], the Jötunheimr Great Abyss was filled with a cold and biting ocean.

In this life, it was also the sea, but it was even more vast and warmer.

The seawater, leached from the blood of the two progenitor giants, filled the abyss and then, in a huge stone basin supported by the branches of the World Tree, turned into a true vast ocean.

Downs' two divine brothers were, to put it bluntly, just transporters of seawater.

The true core attributes were still defined by Downs, the transmigrated god.

Concepts such as pressure, density, fluid mechanics, and so on were all instilled into the ocean.

Downs would not forget that in the epic, Odin and his three brothers created the world, defined the entire Jötunheimr world, but ultimately missed the definition of the ocean due to their ignorance.

This directly led to the later theft of their home by the Vanir gods.

Hehe! The Vanir's leader, Njord, is the god of the sea.

Now that Downs had designed so many definitions for the ocean, he wondered if that future god of the sea would still sit firmly on his throne?

Downs smiled softly.

In this life, the epic would record: [Downs ordered the gods to gather all the water in the world, and thus there was the ocean!]

If the Vanir gods saw it, they would think it was the descendants of the Aesir gods gilding the face of their god-king.

No one noticed that in this world, which was penetrated from top to bottom by an illusory World Tree, there was a plug-like thing at the bottom of the Jötunheimr abyss that supported the ocean; this was a small, malicious design by the creator god.

Downs suddenly looked forward to seeing Njord's expression when he bumped into it…

In any case, defining [Ocean] was the entire content of the fourth day of creation.

On the fifth day, under Downs' command, the gods and giants worked together to push the bodies of the two giants, Ymir and Surtr, into the ocean that had become the Jötunheimr abyss.

These two enormous bodies were also broken down and decomposed by Downs with huge cloud hands, completely transforming into the origin of the world.

Gradually, gradually, soil and stones converged towards the origin overflowing from the bodies of the two progenitor giants.

A vast land attached to the trunk of the World Tree took shape.

Any bone of the progenitor giants projected an exaggerated phantom in the world. Semi-transparent bone fragments enlarged at a speed visible to the naked eye, often exceeding one kilometer in length and width. They accumulated soil, materialized from illusion, and eventually became continuous mountain ranges.

The hair of the progenitor giants scattered everywhere, transformed into origin, and then reorganized, becoming towering trees.

At this point, this continent, named [Midgard], meaning 'Middle Garden', took shape.

To the east of Midgard, across a great river named [Ifingr], was [Jötunheimr], which Downs had promised to the giants. To the west was [Vanaheim], which Downs ostensibly treated as scraps of earth elements but was actually reserved for the Vanir gods, a paradise-like realm.

Following the World Tree upwards, Downs combined earth and wind elements to form a small continent with the same hardness as Midgard but lighter. That was Asgard, for the Aesir gods and giant kin to live in. This continent had a total area of 90,000 square kilometers, divided into 12 districts, all of which were temporarily reserved.

Slightly lower than Asgard was [Alfheim], reserved for the Light Elves.

As for the lowest level, near the roots of the World Tree, it consisted of four worlds.

They were [Svartalfheim], reserved for dwarves and gnomes, the cold and misty land of the dead [Helheim], the extremely primitive land of mist [Niflheim], and the fire realm [Muspelheim], which had lost its leader after Surtr.

In the epic [Edda], Odin was simply not smart enough and too lazy, so he directly and crudely classified and collected elements of different attributes.

While this had its own characteristics, the result was that the environments of the various small worlds became very extreme, with some being cold enough to freeze people to death and others hot enough to roast them.

Downs' operation was more 'humane'.

Although Asgard gathered the best elements in the Jötunheimr world, it didn't take them all.

His loud voice echoed throughout the world:

"The best things in the world should not be enjoyed exclusively by one race. Everyone has the right to glimpse beauty."

Therefore, he placed a tri-colored rainbow bridge composed of ice, fire, and air in the remaining eight worlds, which could lead directly to the main gate of Asgard.

At the end of this day, Downs created the Nine Realms!

On the sixth day, the gods, looking at the vast and empty world, decided to create mortals under the impetus of the world's will.

Downs casually pulled an ash branch and threw it towards Midgard. The branches scattered in mid-air, and then countless mortal men, modeled after the appearance of the Aesir gods and about 1.8 meters tall, were created. Buri, the naming idiot, named the first man [Askr].

Downs threw it again, this time an elm branch turned into a woman, and Bestla named the first woman [Embla].
