Stupid Odin
#26 - A slightly crooked 'Rune'
Thors really wanted to say it was an illusion, the scene before him was too absurd.
It was because Odin suffered the torment of being hung upside down in mythology that the penalty of "hanging" is a very severe punishment in the laws of the Nordic people on Earth. In the West, the execution of a mortal by hanging is called "riding the horse," meaning Odin was hung on the tree, so the World Tree also has another name: "Odin's Horse."
Even in Tarot cards, there is a card called "The Hanged Man," which takes this as its symbol.
In theory, Odin had to endure a full nine days to comprehend the mysteries of the Rune.
You must know that even with Odin's divine body, strengthened by the blood of Ymir, enduring this long was a very painful thing. Why should Odin sacrifice himself, only for Thors to come and reap the benefits?
After being together for so many years, even raising a pet would foster affection, let alone a lively 'dear' brother. The Odin in the "Edda" epic may be a pit, but Thors is in charge this time!
Thors was originally just curious and came to see what the Rune was all about, who would have thought this would happen?
Odin sacrifices himself, and Thors learns the Runes. Wouldn't that be the same as Thors sacrificing his good brother and then learning the Runes for nothing?
This kind of passive reaping of benefits caused a look of shame to appear in Thors' eyes.
At this moment, he really didn't want to watch.
Clusters of chaotic aura were descending in the night sky, dense and numerous, like a beaded curtain swaying gently in the wind, and then they all drilled into the trunk of the World Tree, passing through the wound on Odin's back and flying out of Odin's chest, transforming into starlight, and finally forming clear and incomparable Runes in Thors' perception.
Unless Thors left immediately and fled far away, he would have to 'watch' even if he didn't want to.
Uh, I'll just take a look?
How strange! One more look!
Really strange…
In legend, the original meaning of the Rune was secret, mysterious, representing the secrets of the universe!
Each Rune has a unique meaning, and several Runes can form a spell formula. For example, orn is a weapon of attack and a means of defense. It can encircle a person and block enemies. It represents energy, including excessive violence, etc.!
There is even a saying that each Rune contains a complete energy formula.
The problem is that the Runes Thors saw looked very authentic, but upon closer inspection, they didn't taste right.
Thors dared to swear on Loki's head that something was wrong with this thing.
The Rune in front of him, the size of a fist and shaped like [↑], upon closer inspection, actually showed the three laws of thermodynamics written in tiny, golden-red characters inside the arrow symbol, and they were written in simplified Chinese?!
Thors instantly broke out in a cold sweat!
He finally knew why—when reshaping the Ginnungagap, he, the transmigrator God-King, in order to kill the incoming Vanir gods, mixed a large number of Earth physics formulas into the process of shaping the Nine Realms, such as defining the world's gravitational acceleration, density units, pressure, and so on.
Because these were the laws systematically summarized by a group of Earth scientists and sages, too refined and impeccable, so the ignorant Ginnungagap world chose to accept them completely.
Now it's good, the original Rune has been given a Chinese translation version by Thors. Anyone who wants to learn the Rune must first learn Chinese, and then have a 'Chinese-to-Rune' translation. And the real Rune is probably buried in some corner. If Thors doesn't do something, Odin will probably learn the Flame Yellow Rune [Chinese characters] in this life, which hides supreme mysteries.
Oh! My foolish brother! If you want to learn this, why stab yourself and hang upside down on a tree for nine days?
Such a great gift, I feel ashamed to accept it!
You want to learn Chinese? I'll teach you for free—
Just then, Odin, who seemed to have fallen into slumber, suddenly slowly opened his eyes. In his inverted vision, he saw his good brother's face full of concern and guilt.
"Brother, am I too stupid? I vaguely see the secrets of the world, but I can't understand any of those Runes and characters."
Thors rarely said solemnly: "What you see are some laws I set up for disguise when I reshaped the world. Good brother, you don't have to torture yourself so hard. I'll remove the illusion, and if you want to learn, I can teach you slowly."
Odin shook his head: "No! Brother, I feel the call of fate. And understanding it myself is far more profound than you teaching me!"
Thors was speechless for a long time before sighing: "Since that's the case, I won't advise you. I'll wait for you here, hoping everything goes smoothly."
"Okay!" After saying that, Odin closed his eyes again and re-entered that ethereal state of enlightenment.
Then Thors frantically tried to communicate with the world's will to allow Odin to skip the Chinese translation and learn the more original Runes.
The fourth day, the fifth day… the ninth day!
After a full nine days of upside-down ascetic meditation, Odin finally opened his eyes.
Having been hung upside down in a state of severe injury for nine days, Odin was obviously extremely weak. This weakness became even more obvious after he pulled out the branch of the World Tree that pierced his chest. He couldn't even maintain his body's balance and fell down in a disheveled state.
Thors, who had been waiting by the side, transformed into a stream of light and caught Odin like lightning.
At this moment, Thors had a feeling that this strange yet familiar god only needed one look to completely freeze the space around him and then turn it into ashes.
Huh?!
A little awesome!
Odin showed a weak smile: "Brother, I have roughly learned how to [traverse space]!"
"Awe… awesome!" Thors' heart suddenly skipped a beat: Should I say, as expected of Odin? This talent is truly amazing! [Space] is the most top-tier skill in legends!
Under normal circumstances, Thors should be envious, jealous, and hateful.
He doesn't need to envy Odin, because at the same time, a Rune similar to [Oss] emerged from the depths of his soul. This is a predictive and revealing letter, symbolizing wisdom and reason. It often represents advice.
With this inspiration, it means that he can slowly delve into the entire set of Runes.
This life's Odin has obviously learned crookedly, equivalent to joining a Chinese middle school physics cram school, and then he chose the rather outrageous [spatial physics] category among the vast sea of physics knowledge and plunged into it.
What's even more outrageous is that after Thors communicated with the world's will as the God-King, the world's will recognized this outrageous spatial law…
This means that the [Gungnir] that Odin is about to create will no longer rely on [fate] but will use [space] to achieve the magical effect of certain hit.
Did he learn crookedly? Or didn't he learn crookedly?
Even Thors, the mastermind, couldn't figure it out.
Having settled the Rune, next is…
The two brothers suddenly said in unison: "The Runas Spell!"
