Stupid Odin
#27 - [Sword of the Nine Realms]
Having the runes alone isn't enough. Only by combining the Runas incantations with them can magic be inscribed onto wood, metal, stone, and other materials, unleashing infinite power.
Here's a small problem: after much effort, Odin learned the original runes. However, anyone who wants to learn runes in the future without Thor's approval might have to learn Chinese first.
The thought of that scene alone is quite amusing.
But that's a story for later.
Now, to get the Runas incantations, I must go to the Well of Wisdom.
The World Tree has three main roots:
One root delves deep into Niflheim, the Land of Mists, where the venomous dragon Nidhogg ceaselessly gnaws at the roots. Thor considered eliminating Nidhogg, but the problem is that this creature, like that cow, doesn't fully exist within the Ginnungagap. It's a peculiar being intertwined within spatial rifts.
Another root is in Asgard, where the famous Well of Urd is located. Thor also enjoys holding meetings with the assembled gods there. The Fates are raising their children there now, and they will reside there permanently when they grow up;
The last root is in Jotunheim, immersed in the Well of Wisdom, and guarding the well is Mimir, the father of the Fates, a wise giant who drinks from the well daily.
When Mimir saw the arrival of the God-King brothers, he broke into a cold sweat.
According to the Edda, Odin came to the Well of Wisdom and Knowledge, hoping to drink from its waters.
Odin, who loves to shirk responsibility, didn't resort to force. There's a simple reason for this: it's the land of the Frost Giants, filled with the descendants of Bergelmir, who have sworn to be enemies of the Aesir. His children and grandchildren, along with the frost giants licked out by the cow, form a formidable force that even the Aesir don't dare to casually wage war against.
Mimir only needs to shout, and Odin would definitely suffer a great loss.
Moreover, Mimir is Odin's great-uncle, so Odin can't directly launch a deadly sneak attack on Mimir.
In this life, there are only two kinds of giants in all of Jotunheim: those who associate with the Aesir, and the dead Frost Giants.
Because he knew the importance of the Well of Wisdom, Thor had long ago filled a large pit near the Well of Wisdom with the heads of Frost Giants. In fact, this is also a form of Jingguan (a mound of enemy skulls).
It's not for any particular reason. In the sagas, this old codger Mimir has all sorts of unclear relationships with the Vanir. He appears neutral, but in reality, he gave many Vanir gods the Well of Wisdom to drink, which is why the Vanir have so many messy divine arts and can contend with the Aesir.
Having known this for a long time, how could Thor have a good face for Mimir, this uncle?
As soon as Mimir saw Thor arrive, he shivered: "Your Majesty, have you come here to drink from the Well of Wisdom?"
"I heard that many people ask you for the water, and you all propose a price that the other party cannot accept?"
Mimir shivered even more.
The ignorant are fearless, but the more you know, the more reverence you have.
This old giant, only 8 meters tall, not much taller than the average Aesir, has an ugly appearance, a face full of wrinkles and pockmarks, and many half-meter-long whiskers, growing out like a hedgehog. So much so that even though he respectfully bowed to Thor and Odin, Odin still frowned in displeasure.
Mimir lamented: "It's not that I deliberately demand a price, it's the spring water that makes me do it!"
"The spring water?" Thor asked curiously.
Mimir bowed again: "Your Majesty, you personally led the reshaping of the world, you should know best how many laws you injected into the world, right? To obtain the way to use the laws of the world, isn't it reasonable to pay the corresponding price?"
Thor was immediately speechless.
He can lay down laws in advance and severely punish his enemies, but he would not want his enemies to master his laws and turn around to deal with him.
"Then…"
"If Your Majesty wants to drink the water of wisdom, then please do so at will. But, he can't—" Mimir pointed to Odin.
Just as Thor was about to say something, Odin placed his hand on his shoulder: "Brother, I still say the same thing, some things are more profound and thorough when you comprehend them yourself than when you teach them. I am ready to pay the price."
Thor hesitated and asked: "Is it worth it?"
"It's worth it!" Odin replied firmly.
Two brothers, and they have a life-or-death friendship. Odin doesn't have any arrogant ambitions, but he has the pride that every top powerhouse should have—he believes that with his courage and wisdom, he can at least become as powerful as his brother.
If Thor really taught him, he would think it was a disgrace!
Following the guidance of fate, the two brothers walked to the crystal-clear Well of Wisdom and Knowledge and drank the water, one after the other.
One drank for free along the way.
One paid with his right eye.
Thor glanced at the wise giant Mimir, who was smiling obsequiously beside him, and suddenly sighed: This old man is also courting death. He didn't explain clearly that obtaining wisdom requires a price. No wonder he was sold by Odin in the original myth and had his head chopped off by the Vanir. In the end, even his head was enchanted and made into a fully automatic AI 'computer', specially responsible for answering Odin's various difficult questions.

In this life, let's wait and see.
Over there, Odin's remaining left eye, having drunk the water of wisdom, gleamed with a spiritual divine light. He stretched out his right hand and drew in the air, and runes appeared out of thin air. After combining with the Runas incantations, they formed new arrangements and combinations in mid-air, and finally, one by one, they were embedded in the slender World Tree branch in his right hand.
Thor knew that the famous Gungnir was basically formed, and all that was needed next was the careful polishing and modification by craftsmen.
"Brother, I'm basically done here. What about you? What artifact did you create?"
Thor touched his nose, feeling a little embarrassed: "I have a few more weapons."
What Odin wanted to create was just a spear.
Thor was good. He plucked a branch of the World Tree from every place in the Nine Realms.
Odin was surprised: "Brother, can you use so many weapons?"
"Uh, my fighting style is a little special."
Three months later, in the magnificent Valhalla, Odin looked strangely at his spear and the nine strange longswords made of World Tree branches beside him!
Clearly, their essence is wooden swords, but these nine swords have long lost their original wooden appearance.
Just looking at the appearance, apart from the sword shape, it wouldn't be a problem to say that they are not a set at all.
In the surprised gazes of the gods and giants, Thor gently flicked his right index finger, making a beckoning gesture. The Frost Greatsword, two meters long, suddenly flew up by itself, drawing a graceful arc in the air, and then flew to Thor's palm, spinning lightly.
"This sword is named Jotunheim!"
Thor only said the name of the first sword, and the gods and giants immediately realized what the full name of this set of swords was—the Swords of the Nine Realms!
Yes! They symbolize God-King Thor's absolute rule over the Ginnungagap Nine Realms!
