#110 - The Maximov brothers and sisters enter the job

"I don't think this is a good idea, Pietro," Wanda said, looking at her brother with concern.

"Relax, Wanda," Pietro reassured his sister.

"The more nervous you are, the more they'll notice something's off. Just think of this as going to the supermarket."

"I hope so," Wanda sighed, following behind Pietro towards Avengers Tower.

"Stop!" A well-dressed, burly man in a suit stopped the advancing siblings.

"This is Avengers Tower. Unauthorized personnel are prohibited. Please state your business."

"We received a notice to report here," Pietro said, pulling out a document and handing it to the security guard.

The guard took the document and looked at it, shocked. "You're the ones who passed the test."

"Yes, we are," Pietro nodded.

"I didn't think anyone would actually pass," the guard said, his tone filled with envy.

As mentioned before, the Avengers needed more manpower and to find the location of the gems in order to fight Thanos.

Although the proposal to recruit manpower was met with mixed opinions, it was still carried out. Under the suggestion of S.H.I.E.L.D., Steve put on his Captain America uniform and filmed an inspiring short film, and also recorded an advertisement to recruit special personnel.

These special personnel were the enhanced individuals. The advertisement didn't reveal the real reason for recruiting enhanced individuals, but only said that they wanted to recruit reserve members for the Avengers.

Sure enough, once the advertisement was broadcast, the response was very enthusiastic. The inspection stations set up by S.H.I.E.L.D. in various states were working at maximum capacity.

Unfortunately, although the response was enthusiastic, the results were not satisfactory. Basically, ten out of ten were fakes, and there were even video bloggers trying to get a big scoop by stirring up trouble.

For this reason, S.H.I.E.L.D. had to issue a new statement: anyone impersonating an enhanced individual and wasting time would be sentenced to imprisonment, with a minimum sentence of six months and no maximum limit.

Even so, there were still people who didn't believe it and continued to commit offenses until someone was actually arrested and shown on the news. Only then did this phenomenon completely stop.

In this way, although the inspection stations finally became quiet, the results were the same as before: zero.

Because of this reason, the guard was so shocked when he saw the passed document. Pietro and Wanda were the first pair in months.

"Wait for me to confirm with the higher-ups. What are your names?" The guard pressed the communicator on his ear.

"My name is Pietro Django Maximoff, and this is my sister, Wanda Django Maximoff," Pietro replied.

"Please wait a moment." After knowing the siblings' names, the guard contacted his superiors.

"I've confirmed it." Soon, the guard finished the confirmation.

"Information is correct. Welcome to Avengers Tower, future heroes," the guard said, welcoming the siblings with a smile.

"Oh, thank you," Pietro said, feeling flattered.

"We're just trainees," Wanda said in surprise.

"No need to be modest. Once you join the Avengers, you'll become heroes sooner or later," the guard seemed to think it was a matter of course.

"Hey, everyone, there are two hero reserves here!" A tourist not far away heard the conversation and shouted.

"What?"

"Reserves? Someone passed that test?!"

"Where are they? Where are they?!"

"Can I take a picture with you!"

"Signatures! Please give me your signatures!"

The staff in the tower were relatively restrained, only asking loudly, but the tourists around Avengers Tower didn't care about that. They couldn't see the Avengers, but even though Pietro and Wanda were just reserves, it was enough to arouse their enthusiasm.

The crowd that swarmed over scared Wanda. If Pietro hadn't pulled her, she might have used her powers.

Seeing this, the guard quickly protected the siblings behind him and formed a human wall with other guards to stop the enthusiastic people.

"Go inside and report," the guard shouted without turning his head.

"Stop! This is Avengers Tower!…"

"Th-thank you," Pietro was flattered. They only passed the test to get close to Stark to get revenge. How did they become celebrities?

"I think we should go inside first, Pietro," Wanda whispered to Pietro.

Pietro then came back to his senses, pulled Wanda, and walked towards the inside of Avengers Tower.

As soon as they entered the tower, a capable woman in a suit stopped them.

"Are you Mr. Pietro and Ms. Wanda?"

"Yes, we are. And you are?" Pietro looked at the woman in confusion.

"My name is Melinda May. You can call me Melinda. I'm your receptionist," Melinda extended her right hand, introducing herself. (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been kicked out of the MCU universe, so I won't write their plot, but to commemorate this drama, I will have some of them make a cameo.)

"Hello," the siblings shook hands with her one after another.

"These are your temporary passes. Please follow me." Melinda handed the two tags in her hand to the siblings, motioned for them to follow, and then turned and walked towards the depths.

The siblings took the tags and quickly followed. To their surprise, everyone who passed them on the way greeted them, and they responded one by one until they got on the elevator and had a chance to breathe.

"Are you tired?" Melinda looked at the siblings who breathed a sigh of relief with a smile in her eyes.

"A little." Pietro was obviously not used to it. He felt it was much more tiring than the tests at the inspection station.

"Why are they so enthusiastic?" Wanda asked in confusion.

"We're obviously here for the first time."

"Because you are the Avengers reserves," Melinda replied.

"The Avengers saved New York not long ago, no, they should have saved the world. They are now more popular than any celebrity."

"In the eyes of others, you, as reserves, are also future heroes. People love everything about them, so the public loves you too."

Pietro and Wanda were speechless. Only they knew that they were not here to be heroes, they were here only for revenge.

'I told you this was a bad idea,' Wanda glared at Pietro.

'How would I know it would be like this?' Pietro avoided her gaze. This was obviously beyond his expectations.

Melinda looked at the interacting siblings, only thinking that they were flattered, and ignored them, taking out her mobile phone to check the upcoming work schedule.

In the elevator, the Pietro siblings were busy blaming each other, and Melinda looked down at her phone. No one noticed that a faint energy drilled out of the elevator's control panel.

That energy hitched a ride. They originally had a clear goal, but it seemed like something went wrong, and a few strands split off and floated towards the Pietro siblings.
