#805 - What God do you believe in?
Those who were directly facing the gun muzzle had already started experiencing their lives flashing before their eyes.
They saw their ordinary lives, having imagined countless ways to die—old age, illness, accident—but never had they thought they would die in a war.
Even the council members who considered the possibility of dying from a gunshot never imagined they would be killed by an angel piloting a mech.
The flashing memories allowed everyone to review their unique lives, but these different lives all converged on seeing the same thing at the end.
This same thing wasn't the bullet the size of a human head, but the towering, wall-like metallic figure, its silver-white body seemingly镀上了一层金身 in the golden sunset.
"Clang!"
The head-sized cannonball slammed directly into Colossus's chest. A bullet, under the force, striking an indestructible object could only have one outcome: being compressed into a metal disc.
Colossus brushed off the metal disc stuck to his chest and began to close the distance while the angel was still stunned, as speed was indeed his disadvantage.
"What the hell is that?" The angel also recovered. Looking at Colossus, who was much shorter than her mech, she felt inexplicably flustered and instinctively pulled the trigger again.
By this time, Colossus had already reached the mech. Seeing the gun barrel right in front of him, he resolutely shoved his fist into it.
"Boom!"
The gun barrel predictably exploded, and the mech connected to it also blew up, putting on a fireworks show for everyone present.
After yanking the blown-up gun barrel off his arm, Colossus had to face the attacks of other angels. Everyone here was a well-trained warrior and wouldn't panic at the death of a comrade.
Moreover, this comrade had used her life to verify one thing for them: physical ammunition was unlikely to be effective against this metal behemoth. With someone else's mistake, they could make the right choice.
So they abandoned physical ammunition and instead aimed the energy-bullet-firing gun barrels at Colossus. Even if the iron man's defense was enough to block energy bullets from one or two mechs, what if their entire squad fired at him together?
Even armor made of Uru metal would melt into a puddle of molten iron!
The people who had just gained hope were plunged back into despair. Yes, a superhuman had indeed emerged, but there was a whole group of opponents. One fist couldn't fight four hands.
Colossus didn't panic at all. Who said he was alone?
"Buzz!"
A white disc suddenly appeared behind a mech. The next second, a blonde beauty in light armor jumped out of the disc, wielding a giant, blue-glowing sword in both hands, and slashed upwards through the mech's body.
With a flash of white light, the mech was instantly cut in half. The angel piloting the mech slid out, miraculously alive but unconscious, not cut in half like the mech.
It was truly incomprehensible how the blade could pass through the cockpit, cut the mech in half, and yet leave the pilot unharmed.
"Whoosh!"
Before the other angels could react, a crimson ray swept over, and several mechs exploded into fireworks. The constant explosions awakened the terrified angels.
As their numbers dwindled, they finally realized they were afraid.
But it was too late.
"Thump, thump!"
An angel looked down and discovered a Midgardian standing beneath her. This Midgardian had eyes different from ordinary people, looking like a demon.
Gambit waved at the angel looking down and jumped into the disc that appeared beneath his feet.
"What kind of situ..."
"Boom!"
Before the question could be answered, the angel and her mech were reduced to fragments. But she wasn't alone; others in the squad joined her on the way.
"All taken care of."
Jean, standing next to Cyclops, opened her eyes and said, "There are no more angels nearby. It seems they left the main force on their own. The thoughts I read from their minds were all about killing and revenge. That should be the reason for their unauthorized actions."
"Understood." Cyclops nodded and walked over to the council members in a few strides. Don't ask how he knew; it was that convenient to have a girlfriend who could read minds.
"Lead these people away. Canada hasn't been affected by the war yet. If you drive in that direction, you shouldn't encounter any more danger."
"Who are you people?" The council member pulled his child behind him. Children didn't understand the adult world. Seeing people with superpowers helping them, they thought they had encountered superheroes.
But where were the superheroes now? They had all been ruined by the weak government and the insane Hyperion.
"We are mutants," Cyclops said calmly, revealing their identities, which startled everyone. After all, many of them had persecuted mutants before. Who knew if they would retaliate.
"Since we saved you, we won't do anything extra," Gambit said with a displeased sneer. With a whoosh, a handful of playing cards disappeared from his hand, a divine skill that amazed all the children present.
"But don't expect us to escort you. Saving you was only because the people we wanted to kill happened to be the people killing you."
Gambit stretched and continued, "We don't want to hear about your troubles. If you don't want to leave, that's fine, but don't blame us for not reminding you when the war spreads to you. Let's go!"
After Gambit finished speaking, he led the way to the other side. The other mutants, even Cyclops, didn't want to talk to ordinary people and responded to Gambit's words, really turning around and leaving.
They were just keeping their promise with Yang Le, saying that if the Earth was really invaded by these people from another world, then they might not even have that little bit of a place to survive.
The X-Men's straightforward departure surprised everyone, but no one said much. The angels who could kill them at will were like children in front of these mutants, so weren't they no different from ants?
"What… what were we relying on to bully mutants before?"
An ordinary person asked the question in their heart, which was also in the hearts of most people.
After a while, a nun took off the crucifix from her chest and slammed it on the ground, causing the other nuns around her to exclaim.
"Believe in God? Angels are coming to kill us. If you have that time, you might as well believe in these mutants, believe that your neighbor will pick up a gun to save you!"
The former nun's words hit everyone's ears hard. This scene was being repeated all over the Earth.
