The Emperor’s Angel of Death
#3358 - Finding Food to Save the City
While greeting the surrounding warriors, Ivan walked along the main road, the side paths leading to the warriors' temporary residences. Occasionally, he could hear various kinds of music coming from inside. Although it was deep in the mountains, the temperature and humidity were very suitable, and there were even many plant landscapes.
At the end of the road was a command post, where several semi-circular tables were placed. Behind each table sat a war warlock, with several crystal balls in front of them, projecting various images onto the smooth, mirror-like rock walls. Most of the images were of battle scenes from various parts of New Raine City, but there were also images of green skin activities.
Another Dragon Knight General, Ivroyeiya, stood in the middle, shaking a crystal wine glass in his hand, watching the images on the wall.
Hearing footsteps, he turned his head and raised his glass in greeting when he saw it was Ivan.
"You're back. How was that Night-Night what's-it?"
A nearby druid replied:
"Night Mist Fiend."
"Oh, Night Mist Fiend. How is it?"
Ivan took off his helmet and nodded.
"It's alright. Its hunting efficiency is high and it will be helpful to us."
"That's good. Otherwise, it would be embarrassing if we applied for aid with great difficulty, but got some strange things instead. After all, we are here to carry out tasks, not to do experiments."
Ivan also poured a glass of wine, but turned and handed it to the druid first, then poured one for himself.
"The situation in the human cities is not good."
Hearing Ivan's words, Ivroyeiya (referred to as Iv) tilted his head slightly and replied in a teasing tone:
"When have they ever been good? Ever since we arrived."
"I'm not talking about defense. Their defense should be able to hold out for a while, but the problem is that winter is coming."
"Winter? Oh, you mean snow?"
Ivan took a sip of wine and nodded.
"Yes."
"What impact will that have?"
"Humans need heat to maintain their body temperature. When the temperature drops, they need more heat, and their means of replenishing heat is by eating."
"You mean they will eat more later? That's nothing."
The druid interjected:
"For a besieged city, hunger may be a more terrible enemy than green skins."
Hearing him say this, Iv also frowned, then whispered:
"Such a big city, they shouldn't be running out of food."
"The city accommodates too many people, and the war was too sudden for them. They probably didn't store much."
"Then what can we do? Can we send them food? The key is that we can't conjure up enough food for so many people. Besides, even if we really give it to them, will they really eat it? You should have heard about the Tyron's aid to humans before."
Ivan walked to the huge map and pointed to the location of New Raine City.
"Although it is blocked on land, it is not blocked at sea. The green skins don't seem to pay much attention to this area, so we can find a way to go to other continents on this planet to see if there is any surplus food and help them transport it by sea."
Iv looked at the map for a moment and nodded.
"That's a good idea. Let me see, the closest is this continent, called Caliona by humans. It doesn't seem to be severely invaded here."
"Then, as usual, you stay here, brother, and take control of the overall situation. I'll take people to see what's going on."
"Alright, then be careful. The Crimson Hunters will cover you."
Ivroyeiya was never very enthusiastic about rescuing humans. Ivan knew that his homeland had been attacked by humans, so he understood. Therefore, Ivan took the initiative to do most of the field missions.
Because he had to cross the sea, Ivan gathered three hundred Wyvern riders from the Kingdom of Lilar Suth and planned to head straight for the western sea in the descending darkness.
But just before departure, the druid Quipa found him.
"General Ivan, this time I also brought some of my personal works, which may be helpful to your actions."
Although that's what he said, Ivan knew that the druid was testing his war beasts again. However, he still had some good feelings for these followers of Kurnous, so he did not directly refuse, but replied:
"What is it? Let's take a look first."
Quipa then led him to a separate cave. As soon as he walked in, Ivan heard the sound of flapping wings, and the temperature here was higher than outside.
When he looked up, he saw five crimson birds standing on the supports built above the cave. They were tilting their heads and staring at Ivan with sharp golden eyes.
These raptors looked about as tall as a normal human being. When they spread their wings at the druid's command, their wingspan was nearly 6 meters. They had sharp hooked beaks, and their iron hook-like claws looked daunting. From the fine feathers on their heads to the straight feathers on their tails, they were as sharp as single-edged knives, shaped like daggers, and if you looked closely, they gradually changed from dark purple to bright red, like a smoldering fire.
From the appearance, Ivan saw some familiar things. If he guessed correctly, they were very similar to the Razorwings often used by the Gormaw Beast Kings. Of course, there were differences in size, posture, and color.
The most important point was that he felt quite powerful psionic energy from these raptors. They were not just wild beasts. Like the Night Mist Fiends, they were psionic war beasts that had been specially modified and cultivated.
"Master Quipa, they seem a bit like Razorwings?"
Hearing Ivan's words, Quipa chuckled.
"Yes, they are Firewings, improved from the Razorwing mother species. Both speed and strength far exceed the mother species, but they retain the mother species' excellent cooperative hunting awareness. Moreover, they possess a certain amount of psionic power. After wearing special crystal helmets, they can receive mental commands, get rid of the control limitations of sign language and whistles. In addition, when diving, they can use psionic power to cover their feathers, turning into a ball of extremely high-temperature fire. When approaching the enemy, the extremely high-temperature psionic flames can instantly spread out, like an explosion."
Ivan knew what the other party was talking about regarding the hunting awareness of the Razorwings. He had personally seen the Razorwings hunting. These flying beasts had an endless thirst for bones. When encountering a single one of these carnivorous raptors, its lethality was only at a medium level. However, once they began to gather in groups, the Razorwing flocks would tear entire teams of enemies into pieces like a tornado, and then use their sharp feathers and razor-like beaks to scrape the flesh from the bones. But they would not attack rashly. A leader would formulate a hunting plan, and then the flock would be divided into several parts. One part would harass the hunters, making them panic. At this time, the leader would keep an eye on the easiest to hunt, the weakest target, and then another part would attack those who tried to resist, separating them from the weak and panicked. The remaining part would kill the weak at the fastest speed, using death to stimulate the remaining prey, making them even more panicked.
