#19 - Chapter 19: The Wrong Spring (Part 2)

He quickly found the small boat he had hidden. Pushing aside the obstructing branches, Liu Yuan used all his strength to push the boat into the lake. He carefully checked it, and it seemed his craftsmanship was still good; there were no leaks.

He had observed the shoreline and estimated the distance to the island in the middle of the lake to be about two thousand three hundred meters. With Liu Yuan's current physique, rowing would be too difficult, so he had used tools to create a simple propeller propulsion device. It was hand-cranked, using lever transmission, which saved effort. However, the hand-controlled rudder for steering was quite strenuous, and it took him a full half-hour to reach the other side.

As soon as he got to the island, Liu Yuan was startled. Good heavens, the island was densely packed with weirwood trees. Most importantly, crying faces were carved into all of the tree trunks. Red sap flowed down the faces, looking particularly eerie. He somewhat understood why the early people had desperately cut down weirwood trees; being stared at by these things every day would make anyone uneasy.

The island probably rarely saw visitors, because Liu Yuan saw a plump rabbit. It nonchalantly strolled past him, which was intolerable! He directly picked up a stick and knocked it unconscious.

Picking up the rabbit by its ears, he hefted it; it weighed almost eight pounds, not bad, he'd eat it for lunch. He found a vine, tied up the rabbit, and threw it back into the boat.

Liu Yuan, carrying his hand crossbow, continued deeper into the weirwood forest. He had carefully examined the faces on these weirwood trees; they seemed to have been carved in recent years. Weirwood was actually a common deciduous tree in Westeros, very similar to trees on Earth. However, its bark was bone-white, and its leaves were deep red, looking like countless blood-stained hands from a distance. A heart tree was a weirwood tree with a face carved into its trunk; some huge heart trees were said to have been carved by the ancient Children of the Forest before the First Men crossed the Narrow Sea.

Even now, descendants of the First Men still continued to carve on weirwood trees. Sometimes they would even dye the carved eyes red with the tree's sap, so that when the sap dripped, it looked like the heart tree was weeping blood. In the depths of the forest, Liu Yuan discovered some traces of human habitation. He found animal bones with weapon-inflicted gaps, indicating that someone regularly came to the island to perform sacrifices.

Finally, Liu Yuan discovered an unusual place: a treehouse, or rather, what he would call a treehouse! It was actually just a tree hollow with an outer wall woven from branches, somewhat like a bird's nest. The entrance was very small; his size made it just right for him to enter and exit, meaning that the owner of this place would not be taller than one meter forty. Inside the tree hollow, he found some fur and the hard shells of nuts; many items were made of wood and stone. Among them, he discovered a dagger made of obsidian, with a very sharp, polished edge.

So they're just engaging in ancestor worship, but do they have to live like primitive people? These traces of life are very recent, proving that the owner of this treehouse was still living here a day or two ago. This immediately aroused his vigilance; he couldn't stay here any longer. Living such a primitive life, who knows if they have a tradition of cannibalism? There really are cannibals in TV shows.

Liu Yuan quickly left this forest. He didn't know if it was psychological, but he felt like he was constantly being watched. He didn't dare to relax, never letting go of his hand crossbow, and kept his other weapons within easy reach. He now regretted his damn curiosity immensely. If he had known, he would have preferred to watch the martial arts tournament; at least he wouldn't have to face unknown threats.

Suddenly, Liu Yuan felt a chilling coldness in his heart. Having experienced the battlefield, he knew this was the human instinct for danger. Such a strong feeling proved that the threat was very close. Without hesitation, he immediately darted up a nearby tree. Just as he moved, a black figure suddenly sprang out from his side and behind, fiercely pouncing towards his back.

Liu Yuan heavily kicked the tree trunk, using the reaction force to jump to the other side. At the same time, he turned his hand crossbow and fired an arrow in mid-air. In that split second, the crossbow bolt hit the black shadow. Liu Yuan quickly pulled the lever in mid-air, firing three more arrows, but only one hit. The black shadow actually climbed up the tree trunk, and then landed on the other side.

Liu Yuan landed at this moment, rolled backward, and reloaded his crossbow in a half-kneeling position, pointing it at the opponent. Only then did he see clearly that the attacker was a large feline, looking somewhat like a lynx, but much larger, about the size of a cougar. Its skin was bluish-black with relatively thick fur and tiger-like stripes.

Liu Yuan's first crossbow bolt hit the great cat's left eye. It seemed to be in considerable pain, constantly roaring, and trying to pull out the arrow with its claws. While it was moving around, the bolt stuck in its back fell to the ground, showing that the fur of this animal was very resistant.

……………………………………

At the time when Liu Yuan was experiencing the crisis, a mysterious contestant appeared at the Tourney of Harrenhal. Although he looked very short, his entire body was wrapped in armor. But the armor seemed to be pieced together, but it was surprisingly fit.

But this man's horsemanship was quite superb, and he could make some difficult movements on horseback. He could dodge his opponent's spear between the slightest bit, and easily knock his opponent down, and he quickly got promoted. Because of the smiling weirwood coat of arms on his shield, he was called the Knight of the Laughing Tree.

When the preliminaries were over, the next step will be the round robin. The knights who enter the next round will have a free challenge mode. Unexpectedly, the mysterious Knight of the Laughing Tree. On the third day of the competition, the first to find the Knight of the Laughing Tree was the porcupine knight of the Brown family. The fully armed Brown Knight agreed with pleasure, and he also wanted to defeat this rapidly rising mysterious knight.

The Brown Knight looked reckless, but his fighting skills were quite superb. The Knight of the Laughing Tree was even more agile, and the four rounds were evenly divided. Especially in the sixth round, the spear of the Knight of the Laughing Tree had hit his left rib, but it was still resisted by the Brown Knight. By the ninth round, the Brown Knight's movements had slowed down, and he was finally hit in the mask by the Knight of the Laughing Tree and fell off his horse.

Cheers came from outside the arena! Countless people cheered for this mysterious knight.
