#27 - Chapter 27: Desperate Struggle (Part 2)

Of course, these bandits weren't fools either. After being attacked, they immediately dodged, and soon they discovered that the attacker was a small child. The others continued to chase after the fleeing people, while two turned back and approached Liu Yuan, brandishing their weapons with sinister smiles.

"Little brat, I'm going to chop off your hands and feet!" The two bandits were full of ferocity, their eyes gleaming with bloodlust. An ordinary child would have been too scared to move, but Liu Yuan wasn't a real child.

He reached out and grabbed a blacksmith's hammer from a nearby carriage. Whirling it around a few times by its rope, he suddenly flung it out. Despite being called a small iron hammer, it weighed three or four pounds. The bandit on the left looked in horror as the iron hammer got closer and closer to his head. With a 'thud' and a 'squish' sound, it directly smashed into his face, truly caving it in.

Before the bandit on the right could react, Liu Yuan raised his spear and kicked the shaft with his left foot, causing the long pole to spring up and strike heavily between his legs. With a 'smack!' the bandit cried out in agony. The blow was so heavy that his eyes rolled back and he fainted from the pain. But Liu Yuan wouldn't give him another chance. He flipped his hands, and the spear thrust out again, directly piercing his throat. The wide spearhead severed nearly a third of his neck.

Having dealt with the enemies in front of him, Liu Yuan quickly scanned his surroundings. The bandit who had been hit in the face with the iron hammer was already twitching on the ground.

As the enemy died, Liu Yuan clearly felt a strange surge of power, as if he could tear something apart with ease, and it felt somewhat familiar. But being on the battlefield, he didn't have time to investigate it deeply. He turned his gaze to the east, where 11 people were chasing after Beckett and the others. Looking behind him, Roy was leading the soldiers and servants in a desperate resistance.

Comparing the situations, the Countess was in more danger. Liu Yuan picked up his hand crossbow and quickly replaced the bolt magazine. Clamping the spear shaft under his arm, he chased after them to the east. As he passed the two injured and fallen bandits, he shot each of them in the face with a bolt.

Liu Yuan would occasionally fire a bolt while chasing. This was the drawback of the hand crossbow: its killing power was insufficient at long range. When hitting enemies with armor, it was difficult to kill them with a single shot, especially with moving targets.

The lever was cocked very quickly, and Liu Yuan fired all twenty-plus bolts from the remaining three magazines in a matter of minutes. In the end, only six enemies fell, and the remaining five bandits had already engaged the servants in combat.

Old Parker was as brave as ever, wielding his large iron hammer and single-handedly holding off two people.

But the servants were not professional warriors after all, and were quickly surrounded by the bandits. Even Old Parker was cut twice. A bandit forcefully cleaved through a servant in front of him, revealing the mother and her two children behind him, splattering them with blood. The Countess tightly held little Lyanna in her arms, and reached out to pull Beckett behind her as well. But Beckett stubbornly stood in front of his mother and sister, his eyes firm and holding a small short sword.

The bandit had never seen such a beautiful woman, and leered at her with a lecherous expression, sticking out his long tongue to lick the blood on his face. Seeing Beckett standing in front of him, he swung the sword in his hand to slap him away, but fortunately, he still had some sense, knowing that these noble family members were valuable hostages, so he used the flat of the blade. Suddenly, he caught a glimpse of a dark shadow flashing past, and someone grabbed his shoulder and forcefully pulled him down. In the instant he lost his balance, he felt a warmth in his throat. He could no longer breathe, and could only cover his throat with his hands, constantly spitting out blood.

It turned out that Liu Yuan, seeing them in danger, had used the spear shaft to support himself and leap high into the air. As he landed, he twisted the bandit's neck and slashed his throat with the spearhead. Liu Yuan rolled to his feet as he landed and stood up straight. He stood alone in front of Beckett, and without looking back, shouted, "I'll hold them off, you guys go quickly, ride the horses and find the Earl."

Just then, Liu Yuan saw an opening in front of a bandit. He clenched the spear tightly in both hands and thrust it forcefully. It was the enemy's left rib, and the sharp spear tip easily pierced through the ringmail, broke the ribs, and directly entered the enemy's heart. Blood spurted out along the blood groove. The bandit's body just shook, twitched a couple of times, and then he died.

Liu Yuan gripped the spear shaft, took a bow-legged step back, and pulled the spear out. Using this force, he swept it horizontally to the right, directly hitting another bandit's right calf. The sharp blade tore a large gash in his leg. The man screamed and fell backward. The servant fighting him was very clever, and kicked him hard in the stomach. The servant looked back and saw that the person helping him was actually the blacksmith's little apprentice. Liu Yuan saw him in a daze and immediately scolded, "What are you looking at? Hurry up and take the Countess and the others away!"

Liu Yuan didn't stand idle either, directly swung his spear and smashed it hard on the face of the fallen bandit. Once... twice... three times... Blood splattered everywhere. The leather helmet on the bandit's head was completely useless, and his face was split open in a few strikes.

Three of the five bandits fell instantly. Old Parker, with the help of the other two servants, easily turned the tables and suppressed the remaining two. Just as Old Parker slammed the last bandit to death with a hammer, he angrily said, "Garon, why are you here! This is a battlefield! Swords have no eyes, what if you get hurt."

Liu Yuan didn't answer, but turned to look at the east. With them holding them back for a moment, that servant was quite efficient, and he saw several people riding away in the distance. Then he turned back and said, "The camp has been captured by bandits, where else is safe? The chance to survive must be seized..." Before he could finish speaking, a carriage next to him was smashed open, and a fully armored foot knight charged out.

Old Parker was the closest and had no time to react. He was directly swatted away by the ironclad knight's kite shield in his left hand. The knight swung his greatsword horizontally with immense force, heading straight for Liu Yuan. The knight's movements seemed slow, but his speed was extremely fast. By the time Liu Yuan reacted, the blade was already close to his face. He had no choice but to hold the spear horizontally in front of him to block, while also leaping backward.

That's all he could do. The greatsword struck the spear shaft.
