The Second Empire of Azeroth

#174 - The Alsace Decision

Time seemed to have a self-correcting function, as Archimonde relentlessly headed towards Kalimdor. He coveted the energy of the World Tree, Nordrassil, and couldn't wait to claim it for himself.

Meanwhile, in Kalimdor, Medivh had secretly formed an alliance, primarily composed of Night Elves, with Humans and Orcs as secondary forces. They temporarily set aside their hatred and joined forces to confront the Burning Legion's invasion.

They set up layers of defenses in Mount Hyjal, hindering Archimonde's advance. In the end, Malfurion used Nordrassil to set a trap, detonating the tree's energy with wisps, killing Archimonde.

Roger witnessed this scene through magic, feeling a bit regretful. He could have used Archimonde to test his own strength.

However, even with Archimonde escaping previously, Roger's gains this time were still significant.

He led the Vrykul to reclaim the ruins of Dalaran, rescuing many Dalaran mages from the wreckage. More importantly, he obtained a large number of mages' legacies, especially those of Kirin Tor Council members, including a vast collection of magical items. Although not comparable to Medivh's collection, it was still enough to make him wealthy beyond measure.

From these collections, Roger directly kept the books. These were the crystallized wisdom of Dalaran over thousands of years and were bound to have valuable insights. Moreover, there were many powerful magic books among them, although not as powerful as the Book of Medivh, they were still precious enough.

Roger took out a portion of the other magical items and recruited some Dalaran mages. Dalaran was thoroughly destroyed, both in terms of architecture and talent, making it impossible to rebuild it as a Sky City like in "history."

Therefore, many mages chose to accept Roger's recruitment. Serving a powerful king was much simpler than rebuilding a ruin.

Reuniting with Roger, Arthas said, "Your Majesty, I implore you to protect the people of Lordaeron."

Roger was taken aback. "Prince Arthas, you should be inheriting the throne now, protecting your own people…"

"Your Majesty!" Arthas said, "I will not inherit the throne!"

He said earnestly, "In Northrend, I saw unimaginable enemies, and these enemies are beyond my ability to face. The people of Lordaeron have suffered too much, and I hope they can have a stable life, which I cannot provide. Your Majesty, although the Kingdom of Azeroth has just been established, it has the strength to protect the people of Lordaeron. I am willing to become your subject, only asking that you protect the people of Lordaeron."

Roger was silent. Arthas's thoughts were beyond Roger's expectations.

He knew that Arthas was a very responsible person. For Lordaeron, he could do anything, even draw Frostmourne, even commit patricide!

But now, for Lordaeron, Arthas actually gave up the throne. It sounded a bit unbelievable, but it was indeed something Arthas could do.

"Have you thought it through?"

"This is my decision after careful consideration!"

Looking at Arthas's sincere eyes, Roger nodded. "Since you insist, then I allow you to join the Kingdom of Azeroth. However, the human councilors have already decided that Lordaeron will not receive a councilor position."

Arthas said, "No problem. As I said, as long as you can protect the people of Lordaeron, everything will be according to your will."

Roger said, "From now on, you will serve as the Marshal of the Lordaeron Legion, responsible for the defense of the Lordaeron region. As for the people of Lordaeron, they can choose to stay in Lordaeron and continue living, or they can choose to go to Northrend. Next, the defense of the Lordaeron region will be centered on several pillar cities such as Lordaeron and Stratholme…"

"As you command!"

Watching Arthas leave quickly, Aurelia asked, "Has Arthas really decided to join the kingdom, or does he have other plans?"

"It should be real!" Roger explained, "He knows our strength very well, and he also knows how dangerous this world is. Joining us is the best choice, both to protect the people of Lordaeron and to relieve him of his heavy burden. He just came of age and has experienced too many unexpected things, even killing his own father. Choosing to escape is normal."

In "history," Arthas had no choice but to face it, but now that he has a choice, he will naturally choose to escape.

"Moreover, even if he has other plans, so what?"

Roger was not afraid of Arthas having any motives. At his level, many conspiracies and tricks were useless. Just like Cenarius, he could be killed head-on, but he would never suffer any losses due to tricks. If it weren't for Grommash, Mannoroth could release as much blood as he wanted, but he wouldn't be able to kill Cenarius, only pollute the environment a bit.

Similarly, if Malfurion hadn't sacrificed Nordrassil, it would have been impossible to kill Archimonde.

Aurelia relaxed and asked, "So what do we do next? Pursue Archimonde?"

"No!" Roger shook his head. "Archimonde is already dead."

"Archimonde is dead?" Aurelia was very surprised. "Isn't he very strong?"

"No matter how strong a person is, they can be killed if they are not careful!" Roger warned.

"Next, what we have to do is eradicate the demons and undead on this continent and let the people recuperate."

"That's easy!" Aurelia said, "Archimonde took away most of the demons. The ones that are still here are just scattered demons. It's easy to kill them. Just send out elite squads to hunt them down."

Roger nodded. He also didn't sense too much demonic aura on the Lordaeron continent. Even the aura of the undead was scarce.

At this moment, Aurelia's communication gem flickered.

Sylvanas's image appeared before the two of them. "Aurelia, I'm very sorry. I accidentally revealed the news that Roger possesses the Well of Eternity. After hearing about it, Prince Kael'thas has already set off for Northrend, wanting to seek a bottle of Well of Eternity water to restore the Sunwell…"

Aurelia put her hand to her forehead. "Sylvanas, you said you would keep it a secret!"

As she spoke, she secretly glanced at Roger.

Roger rolled his eyes. "Alright, how can I blame you? As punishment, you and Thorim will be stationed in Dalaran to support the plan to clear the demons and undead. I'll go back to Ulduar first and wait for Prince Kael'thas's arrival!"

Aurelia smiled embarrassedly and respectfully saw Roger teleport away.
