The Second Empire of Azeroth
#175 - Knowledge is power
Aurelia didn't need to fawn over Roger, but she was afraid Roger would blame Sylvanas. Although this Sylvanas wasn't technically her sister, she still didn't want Roger to be angry with Sylvanas.
In fact, Roger was giving Aurelia face; otherwise, Sylvanas's exposure of the Eternal Well's secret would have at least landed her on the list of people banned from entering the Kingdom of Azeroth.
But Aurelia was his queen, and he had to give her face.
Not pursuing Sylvanas was Roger's greatest leniency, but as for Kael'thas, who was about to arrive,
Roger wouldn't be so easy to talk to.
Kael'thas's purpose was clear: he wanted to use the water from the Eternal Well to revive the Sunwell. But the Eternal Well was a treasure of the Kingdom of Azeroth; how could it be easily given away? Once this precedent was set, more and more forces would want the water from the Eternal Well.
Compared to Roger's attitude, Kael'thas was determined to get it.
He traveled thousands of miles by ship to Northrend, encountering powerful storms and cold air,
and barely made it to Howling Fjord,
Soon after, he met Turalyon.
Many years ago, he had met this world's Turalyon and attended his wedding with Aurelia. Kael'thas had also met this other timeline's Turalyon; it was during Turalyon's early days stationed in the Alterac Mountains, and he had represented Dalaran in sending a batch of magical supplies.
That time, Kael'thas had somewhat of a condescending attitude. But now, he hoped Turalyon could have a condescending attitude.
Turalyon also wanted to be condescending, but the matter of the Eternal Well's water wasn't up to him. After contacting Roger, Turalyon opened the portal in Utgarde Keep,
transporting Kael'thas and his group to Ulduar.
Stepping through the portal, Kael'thas's face was strange. This was actually a castle even bigger than Utgarde Keep,
and he doubted that anyone needed to live in such a large castle.
He quickly had his answer; he saw several extremely large people and a group of huge people walking over.
"Prince Kael'thas?" Azadas asked.
"That's me!" Kael'thas respectfully asked, "May I ask how to address you?"
"I am called Azadas!" Azadas said, "His Majesty already knows your intention, please follow me!"
Azadas led Kael'thas to the Eternal Throne, where Roger had been waiting for a long time.
"Welcome to Ulduar, Lord Kael'thas!"
Kael'thas quickly bowed, "Your Majesty, I have come seeking help!"
Roger nodded, "I already know about your matter! But you must know how precious the water of the Eternal Well is; even a single drop contains extremely powerful energy. I understand your desire to revive the Sunwell, but I will not allow the water of the Eternal Well to appear elsewhere."
Kael'thas said anxiously, "Your Majesty, please allow me to explain the situation!"
"I know that Quel'Thalas previously relied on the Sunwell to enjoy too much, focusing only on drawing energy from the Sunwell and becoming unenterprising. I also intend to have the elves abandon their dependence on the Sunwell and use their own power to cast spells. However, less than a month after leaving the Sunwell, the elves experienced severe discomfort. After more than a month,
a strange condition will appear, which is caused by long-term dependence on the Sunwell,
we call it magic addiction."
"Magic addiction erodes the bodies and minds of the elves, gradually causing them to lose their minds. If the Sunwell cannot be revived, I am afraid that those elves who have developed magic addiction will go crazy. Over time, I am afraid that the entire Quel'Thalas will be destroyed by magic addiction."
Roger shook his head, "Magic addiction is only temporary; as long as the elves persevere, they will soon get rid of it."
Kael'thas shook his head and said, "Perhaps your words are correct, but I cannot gamble. I cannot stand by and watch my people be tortured to death without doing anything. As long as I can obtain the water from the Eternal Well, I am willing to pay any price."
Roger pondered. It was precisely this mentality of Kael'thas that led him to successively join Illidan and Kil'jaeden.
If he ignored the elves, then Kael'thas might do something crazy.
He wasn't afraid of Kael'thas going crazy, but for Aurelia's sake, he had to do something for the elves.
"Can you be responsible for your words?"
Kael'thas looked at Roger in surprise, "Of course, Your Majesty, you can set any conditions."
Roger nodded, "Since that's the case, then I won't be polite."
"First, I need an army composed of mages and rangers. Aurelia is clearing the demons of the Lordaeron continent in Dalaran, and I need this elite force to go and assist her in exterminating the demons."
"Okay!" Kael'thas readily agreed.
"Second, the Kingdom of Azeroth will organize a large number of organizations. Quel'Thalas must recognize the legitimacy of these organizations and not hinder them from recruiting members."
Kael'thas nodded, "As long as it doesn't harm the interests of Quel'Thalas, elves can join any organization."
"Third, I need a copy of all the spell books of Quel'Thalas."
Kael'thas hesitated for a moment, then nodded and said, "I will personally organize the copying of the books."
Roger nodded in satisfaction. The three conditions he proposed corresponded to the near, medium, and long-term interests of the Kingdom of Azeroth. Exterminating the demons was a near-term interest; as long as the demons were exterminated, the Kingdom of Azeroth's territory in Lordaeron would be more stable.
Developing organizations was a medium-term interest. Even if the people absorbed into these organizations did not join the nationality of the Kingdom of Azeroth, they would still become a help to the Kingdom of Azeroth. Even if only one-tenth of the elves joined the organizations, the power of the Kingdom of Azeroth would increase by a large margin. Roger was confident in absorbing more than one-tenth of the people, because the organizations of the Kingdom of Azeroth were all professional organizations, such as the Farstriders of the rangers, the Earthen Ring of the shamans…
Copying spell books was a long-term interest. The tens of thousands of years of magical research in Quel'Thalas had been well preserved. As long as these were absorbed, the knowledge mastered by the Kingdom of Azeroth would at least double. If a spark of inspiration could be found from this magical knowledge, it would be a major breakthrough.
Knowledge is power.
