The Second Empire of Azeroth

#46 - The oriole is behind

At the Sardo Bridge, Orgrim stood on the hilltop. Behind him, dozens of catapults continuously hurled stones towards the north side of the bridge, relentlessly bombarding the dwarven positions.

The tenacious dwarves braved the stone rain, repelling the orcish attacks time and time again. Although they lacked steel behemoths like tanks, they possessed a fearsome weapon that the orcs dreaded: explosives!

Long before the orcs arrived, the dwarves had installed a large quantity of explosives on the Sardo Bridge. If they couldn't hold the line, they would immediately detonate the explosives and destroy the bridge.

In fact, they had already blown up one.

As soon as the orcs arrived in Dun Modr, they launched a surprise attack on the Sardo Bridge, with the Burning Blade clan leading the charge. A single assault brought them to the dwarven positions on the north side of the bridge. Seeing the situation was dire, the dwarves immediately detonated the western side of the bridge, sending hundreds of elite dwarven warriors and more than a dozen Burning Blade Blademasters plummeting into the abyss below. Perhaps some orcs survived the fall, but they were quickly devoured by countless naga and murlocs.

Orgrim feared that the dwarves would destroy the other bridge as well, which would block his army in Dun Modr.

Orgrim excelled at surprise attacks. Unable to break through the Sardo Bridge head-on, he chose to circle around from the side.

In Menethil Harbor, the orcs collected many ships that hadn't been taken away in time. Orgrim ordered Maim Blackhand to lead an army north by sea, bypassing the Sardo Bridge to launch a surprise attack on Stromgarde, flanking the dwarves from behind.

Maim received the important task, but his face showed no excitement, instead appearing somewhat gloomy.

This was because he had received this mission to redeem himself for his failures. The disappearance of the Dragonmaw clan had been exposed, including the warlock Nekros Skullcrusher, whom Orgrim valued. As the supervisor, Maim was guilty of serious dereliction of duty. If Orgrim didn't still trust him, he would already be a corpse.

The moment he received the mission, Maim resolved to complete it at all costs.

Unfortunately, because the orcs didn't understand navigation, the fleet's position was off. They sailed into a bay and were attacked by naga.

"Sea monsters, they're scuttling the ships!"

Maim hurriedly ordered, "Turn around, sail back!"

"It's too late!" An orc ran up from below deck and shouted, "The bottom of the ship has already been breached, Chieftain, we must beach!"

"Bang!"

Maim slammed his fist hard on the railing, saying unwillingly, "Beach at full speed!"

Once ashore, he would make those naga pay the price.

The ships moved forward at full speed, quickly running aground on the shallows. The orcs jumped off the ships one after another, engaging the pursuing naga in a fierce battle. Although the water was the naga's domain, the naga were exceptionally agile, constantly twisting their bodies to evade the orcs' attacks. Even if they were hit, their scales could cushion the impact.

In contrast, the orcs were at a disadvantage in every way, moving slowly in the water, and their heavy armor only made them more cumbersome. For every one time they attacked a naga, the naga could attack them three times. If their armor wasn't thick enough, they would have been killed by the naga long ago.

"Shriiiiek--"

A bolt of lightning struck an orc, instantly paralyzing him. The naga seized the opportunity, thrusting the trident in its hand fiercely into the orc's head, killing him.

Maim looked up and saw a female naga in the distance staring at him coldly.

"Retreat to the shore!"

Maim knew that encountering spellcasters was very disadvantageous to the warriors in this environment, and decisively ordered a retreat.

The orc warriors retreated while fighting, finally retreating to the shore at the cost of more than a dozen lives. The naga pursued relentlessly, and behind the naga, a large group of murlocs surged from the sea, dragging the orc corpses back into the water.

Just as the orcs and naga were in the heat of battle, someone was spying on them from the hilltop in the distance.

"B Company, prepare for battle!"

It was Roger who was spying on the orcs. His Eagle Eye had long discovered the orcs sailing from afar and had watched them sail into Faldar Bay. He had long anticipated that the orcs would attack by sea, so in his proposal to Lothar, he had suggested that the Kul Tiran naval fleet patrol Southshore, western Gilneas, and the Tol Barad sea area respectively.

Without the red dragons, the orcs were no match for the Kul Tiran navy at sea. If he didn't want the orcs to die at sea, Roger would have had the Kul Tiran navy recapture Menethil Harbor.

If he really did that, the Kul Tiran navy would lose its purpose. At the same time, the Alliance army would have to fight the orcs in the harsh and complex environment of the Wetlands, where the orcs had suffered a lot in Draenor and would be more adapted to the environment of the Wetlands than the Alliance army.

Exploiting strengths and avoiding weaknesses is not what a wise man would do.

That's why Roger suggested that Lothar arrange the Kul Tiran navy in this way, giving the orcs hope so that they would court death.

As for Stromgarde, because it was surrounded by mountains, making large-scale marches impossible, there was no need for naval protection. Stromgarde could be vigilant over a large area of the sea, and by building a few watchtowers in the mountains, guarded by a few elite soldiers, they could prevent orcish surprise attacks.

B Company was one of the most elite units in the Alliance, and Roger had taken the initiative to accept this mission.

Firstly, to stay away from the politically complex area of Lordaeron, to avoid being backstabbed by nobles. Secondly, to find a place that wasn't the orcs' main target, giving him time to continue absorbing the energy of the Dragon Soul.

Maim exerted force, making himself fall to the ground quickly, hoping to dodge the arrow.

But that arrow didn't shoot directly at him, but aimed at his landing point.

"Pfft!"

The arrow pierced his shoulder fiercely, causing him to grit his teeth in pain. He roared and turned to the archer, about to launch a charge. But four or five arrows shot in succession, continuously piercing his body, and the last sharp arrow pierced his throat.
