Apostle of Cthulhu

Chapter 9 The Walking Corpse

A feeling of fatigue enveloped Si Wei's whole body like a tide. He tossed and turned on the single bed in the hotel, with a splitting headache. It was as if he had drunk a lot of alcohol last night, causing his memory to be directly blacked out.

"Hiss..." Si Wei took a breath of cold air, opened his eyes with difficulty, and saw the rather unfamiliar ceiling.

"Awake?" The familiar voice stimulated Si Wei's chaotic brain, because he was very familiar with this voice, "I woke up earlier today."

Si Wei glanced over and saw Jia Ya, who was lying flat on the bed next to him with her hands supporting her chin, staring at her, and asked, "Why are you here?"

"Why can't I be here?" Jia Ya asked back, "This is the Tyndall Hotel, where we are staying now. If I can't be here, then where should I be?"

Si Wei felt incredible. He should have stayed in a hotel on Osins Street last night, and then fell asleep because of the violin sound in the attic. Why did he wake up and return to the Tyndall Hotel?

"Wait..." Si Wei raised his hand and mechanically propped himself up, "What time is it now?"

Jia looked at the clock and replied, "Six forty-seven in the morning."

If the deadline for opening Oxins Street is five in the morning, then theoretically it is possible that he will be sent back by the mysterious power in Oxins Street, but is it possible to send himself back without anyone knowing?

Si Wei asked Jia what time she woke up, and she also said it might be around six o'clock. Moreover, the security guards and staff on duty at the hotel at that time have all gone off work, and if they want to find evidence that someone noticed him, they can only wait until night.

What or who sent me back?

Si Wei not only suspected this, he also wondered why he could enter Oxins Street at night, but would be teleported out during the day?

Could it be that Oxins Street would disappear during the day, or was there a secret that he didn't want to know?

I now have three identities: a time traveler, an apostle of Cthulhu, and a professor. Which one of them made me have to be teleported out?

"Since you are awake, don't sit here," Jiaya climbed up from the bed. She had already washed and changed into clothes for going out. "Get up quickly, then we will have breakfast and rush to the crime scene as quickly as possible."

"Crime scene? What crime scene?"

Jiaya tidied her hair on the side of her ear. "A homicide occurred last night and was determined to be related to the missionary. If this guy has a relationship with Oxins Street, then he must be a big suspect."

Murder... homicide?

Si Wei still clearly remembered the dream he had last night, including every detail. In the dream, he did kill someone. If the homicide discovered today was committed by him, would he be arrested?

"Why do I feel that you are a little nervous now? Is it my illusion?" Jia looked at Si Wei with strange eyes, "Is it true that the sequelae of falling in the forest have not healed yet?"

Si Wei shook his head, scratched his messy hair and climbed out of the bed, "I'm not nervous, I just haven't woken up yet... I'll go wash up now, and go to the scene later."

Jia didn't doubt it, just looked at Si Wei for a little longer, then turned away and walked out of the room.

While washing up in the bathroom, Si Wei was still recalling the feeling of last night. If that was the first time he activated his ability as a dream eater, under what circumstances could his ability be triggered? The first night he traveled through did not trigger his ability, but was summoned to the Old Days Council. Would that also be a manifestation of his ability?

And he couldn't control his body in the dream. Was it because his gift power was not strong enough, or was it that dream eaters could only do this?

Too many questions confused Si Wei, who had just set foot in this world. He hoped that the other three apostles could answer this series of confusions for him at the next Old Days Council.

Men usually take a shorter time to wash, so Si Wei left the hotel room and came to the hotel's dining area.

Jia Ya was considerate as an assistant and had prepared breakfast for this sloppy professor: a fried egg, a thin grilled sausage, a small piece of tenderloin, and a glass of milk, which was quite rich.

"You really think highly of me. Do I need so many calories in the morning?"

Jia Ya drank warm milk and asked back, "You consumed so much last night, don't you need to replenish so many calories?"

Si Wei hadn't sat down yet, but when he heard her words, his movements paused, "What... did you say?"

"You did the murder, didn't you?" Jia Ya seemed to have turned into a famous detective at this moment, "I happened to pass by the crime scene when I went out to buy a notebook today, and heard three or two women saying there: I heard that the murder was committed by a corpse, which is really terrible.

"Generally speaking, the only missionaries who can control corpses are mystics and high-level dream eaters. If there is really a mystic in this town, he has no reason to commit murder. Then, you, the only dream eater in the town, are very likely to be a suspect.

"You have obtained the power of grace for the first time. I can understand that you cannot control your own power, but after the commission is over, I do not agree with you turning yourself in."

Si Wei said to himself: "Turn yourself in? This is force majeure, and the Old Parliament has also issued a task to myself. If I don't complete it as soon as possible, I don't know what will happen."

"I understand. Anyway, I will go and see if the place where the incident happened matches my dream." Si Wei sat down and drank a sip of milk. "By the way, you said the matter of the power of grace in public. Is this allowed?"

Jia rested her right elbow on the table and supported her right face. "It is very foolish not to recognize the existence of the power of grace. The empire has long issued a decree related to missionaries. If you still don't recognize this, you will be directly regarded as a pagan..."

Are there pagans here? I don't know if it is the same concept as the pagans mentioned by the three apostles of the Old Parliament.

Moreover, Si Wei knew nothing about this world. The so-called empire sounded vague to him. Could it be that this world was still an empire?

Si Wei wanted to spend some time to learn about the official history and development of this world, but the events of the Old Parliament and Osings Street came one after another, and it was difficult for him to squeeze out time and energy to do other things.

In short, the most important thing at the moment was to determine whether the murder that happened this morning was committed by Si Wei.
